NO! Pominville took the hit like a true hockey player, and hjammajas got what he deserved
It's unfortunate that he got hurt. I don't like to see anybody get more than minor injuries. But it looked more like bad luck in how he hit the glass than a dirty hit.
Pominville missed the following 9 games with a concussion. He somehow still managed 22 goals and 30 assists in a season that many thought would be a total loss for him.
Somebody is going to get killed. And then guys like Colin Cambell are going to find themselves on the receiving end of a wrongful death suit. And it'll be an easy victory for the plaintiff because the evidence would be overwhelming with regard to not only the many incidents leading up to the inevitable on-ice death but also Cambell/Bettmen's repeated resistance to change along the way.
Doesn't matter if Pominville might have seen him. He was gliding backwards and Hjalmarsson still hit him. Hjalmarsson should be banned from the NHL. With the way things are going someone will get paralyzed or killed before there is an actual crackdown on this shit.
@dougjnesbitt you asked what hit is ban worthy so I told you. This hit was suspension worthy but to ban him over this considering some of the hits that have gone without a suspension a ban for this would be overly harsh
No checking from behind penalty, since he saw Hjalmarsson coming and turned the back on him. No interference imo. Unfortunate that he got hurt. Hjalmarsson is not a dirty player.
not a legal hit. 43.1 Checking from Behind – A check from behind is a check delivered on a player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to protect or defend himself, and contact is made on the back part of the body. When a player intentionally turns his body to create contact with his back, no penalty shall be assessed.

@808state909 If you want to take it from a strictly rule based standpoint yes it says he must have physically touched the puck however from a practical standpoint... ie what a ref will actually call... if the puck is a foot away from your stick and you've made it pretty evident that you're gonna establish control over the puck then the ref is going to deem you have control of the puck. I've actually played the sport and understand the difference between rules on paper vs rules during play
@NathanMonarchy105 I've played the game too dickhead which is why I know you don't hit people without the puck. What you and the other faggot are talking about is made up bullshit from so-called delusional experience.
@808state909 I actually play with and against people who make money in hockey and know the fucking rules. Unlike you who plays with his buddies from the factory and act like they know every. Your worse than fucking dirt because you cant accept logic and how wrong you are. Pz later kid get fucking good, go to a gym get a real life. Register for an actually referee course instead of making accusations when you don't know fucking shit about the game besides what you watch on tv/played in childhood
@808state909 K fair enough. I was just trying to have a conversation about the rules and hockey. I didn't realize that you were gonna fucking have a lil five yr old tantrum about it. Fact of the matter is. You take 15 refs and maybe one out of 15 calls that an interference penalty. Thats all im saying but you're too busy shoving a stick up your own ass and getting off on it to be able to sit down and actually talk hockey. I hope you enjoy free skate cuz you clearly dont know hockey.
@NathanMonarchy105 What's to discuss? You've already admitted that I was correct about the rule, end of discussion. Go back to playing video games with massimo faggot. What's in this video isn't hockey.
fucking stupid cunt announcers, pomenville could barely register that eurotrash coming in for the hit... he had a split second to react, what the fuck could you do at that point?
@808state909 you mad cuz you know i'm right? Go take a fucking class about the rules of the game or shut the fuck up. Or try playing any kind of hockey higher than a beer league you pathetic fucking casual
@mossimo09 took you long enough to respond. was it past your bedtime? in those 10 hours you could have come up with an original insult and also read the NHL rules. Nowhere in those rules does it state any of the bullshit that you mention.
@808state909 Normal athletes have a balanced sleep schedule unlike your loser ass staying up all night trying to prove false facts. As for the exact NHL rule where you are "apparently" getting your information from. Here a tip dumbfuck they dont release the full rule book to the public.
@mossimo09 LOL nice try. the rules are posted on the NHL website, but i can't post links. if you dumb canadians knew how to google, you might be able to find it and subsequently stop posting your moronic garbage. that probably won't happen though
@808state909 "about to receive the puck isn't possession" yes it is dumb fuck if your able to play the puck you are considered to have possession dumb kike.
And those arnt the rule books they give the referees on the website you ignorant fuck. NHL referees have came to our referee meetings and talked to us about their progress into the NHL, they showed us their offical rule books for the NHL. Its a lot bigger than that fucking teenagers book they call a rule book on the NHL website.
@mossimo09 so quote from the big book then. about to receive a pass is not possession and i will guarantee that you will not find any of that bullshit in your made up rulebook. you don't need a novel to define interference and this is a prime example.
that is a dirty hit u see his numbers u dont hit him they teach that shit to you in squirts yah pominville saw him coming but you dont expect someone to hit you from behind that hard it would have been fine if hjalmarsson slowed down a little and did that normal nudge but full speed like that is uncalled for
I dont know how any of your people can justify that hit.
That could have easily ended the guys career with the way his head snapped. It was a hit from behind.. he saw him coming but since players are not supposed to check from behind--- THAT'S WHY HE DIDN'T BRACE HIMSELF.... The guys lucky he got only 2 games.
The league doesn't pay attention or they would've given him at least 3 because on his first game back--guess who they play?! yeah,Buffalo...its going to be a nasty game.
Nice hit. Stop crying. Thats how Swedish metal tastes like. I'm not saying that Hjalmarsson did the correct thing, no. But Canada and USA has been given Sweden some big shit over the years. In the olympics and in NHL. It's time that we Swedish shows how we play here in Sweden.
And btw, u guys maybe should search for Rob Niedermayers cheap hit on Peter Forsberg. We are just giving the shit back!
To extend from my previous comment, I do believe the 2 game suspension is a little rash but what can you do and since I'm a fan of neither team I'm not sticking up for either one. Yes, Pominville did not touch the puck for long but had it close around him long enough to be considered "having possession of the puck." So that is also out of the question. Only thing dirty about this video is the commentators not doing their damn job and reporting on shit that actually matters.
This is definitely a hard one to call. Pominville saw Hjalmarsson and didn't prepare for the hit so his fault on that part. Hjalmarsson could have angled his hit a little better than that. 100% no intent to injure (No elbow, no fists, didn't leave his feet, etc.) Suspension? In my opinion, no because it looks worse than it actually is. Technically this is a shoulder to shoulder hit with a bad finish. I do think however it is a deserved game misconduct for boarding but that's about it.
@Terbear92 how can you say that!?!?! players are not supposed to hit from behind so why would it be his fault because he "didnt prepare for the hit"?????????
@audioexcels I have a feeling if Terbear92's favorite player is Hjalmarsson he might get to see that on Saturday... except, coming from Pat Kaleta they will be clean hits...
I have no problem with Kaleta doing some of his magic tricks going in hard on the forecheck and accidentally crushing Hammer's face into the boards...oh woops...I got him with the shoulder so it's all good no?
@buffalobills91 haha as i said. I don't like either team so Hjalmarsson to me is just some punk bitch. If my favorite player was hit from behind like that I would be fine with it. A hokey player's instinct is to protect themselves at all times, it should be anyways. Since Pominville saw him coming and didn't do anything but stand there, that is how i said it's his fault for getting hit that way. It's still a boarding hit no matter what. Like I said it looks worse than it actually is.
Now I agree that players need to let up... but tell me, is it a good idea to be skating backwards along the boards like that when you know the possibility of a pinching defensemen roaring in, or is it maybe a bad idea. NH does his best to hit from the side, with his hip. I see no intent to injure.
i can't believe these asshat announcers. "pominville knew hjalmarsson was coming." who gives a shit, it's still a nasty illegal hit. hjalmarsson deserved to get jumped after that dogshit hit, as well as the suspension.
It was a blind sided hit, regardless of the outcome. The outcome brings into focus (for the umpteenth time) that the sport's culture has increasingly gotten uglier and going the route that Bettman & Company have tragically taken it, precipitating a not-so-proverbial "Gladiator" culture on the ice which the increasingly ignoramus fans look for more than skill play.
Hits are fine, straight up, honest and clean. Head shots, cheap shots and the rest have no place. I'm tired of the thug factor.
This is no longer a clean hit as per league rules. Yes players need to keep their heads up and on a swivel, but this isn't even a blindside hit as Hjalmarsson hits Pominville mostly from behind. It's a hit from behind which is already a penalty, what makes it suspendable is that Hjalmarsson lines him up and hits him with his shoulder dead square in the numbers. If he would've taken less sharp of an angle and gotten Pominville from the side, or not into the boards, maybe there's no news about .
the only thing is, that he didnt kept skating toward pominville. he stopped skating just after the blue line. from the 1st angle he seems to come way faster then the other angles.
but still, the league wants to stop all "dirty" hits, and i agree with them. i like a clean hit, but nothing from behind.
originally a shoulder check is supposed to separate the player from the puck. not to hurt or even injure the player.
@rx7outlaw Yeah I'm not saying he continued skating, I'm saying he didn't hold up. Hjalmarsson had plenty of time to stop a little bit. When you see a guy's numbers, that's a big no no. I'm not saying Hjalmarsson charged Pominville, but there was no change of course or intent to stop, in fact he lines him up planning to deliver the hit even though there's no possible way he could be trying to hit his shoulder. It wasn't like Hjalmarsson missed, he hit Pominville right where he wanted to. Y'know?
I wish all the best to Pominville and hope he makes a speedy return to the ice. That having been said Hjalmarsson was making a play on where he thought the puck was. You fault him for playing the game? Maybe we should outlaw hitting in hockey? How about everyone wear pillows when they go out on the ice? It's a shame Pominville got hurt, but let them play the game.
keep your fuckin head up retard, prissy forwards theses days think that they have the right to hold the puck in the offensive zone? I dont think so...Don't change the rules, dont change the game. Make these fancy boys watch some old time hockey before they step up to the big leagues.
not a hit to the head... but that was definitely boarding at the very least. It's just one of those hits where the wrong things happened at the wrong time... I hope Pominville is okay, but lets all get off Hjalmarsson's case... it may have been a shady hit, but not a dirty one... there was no charge, no hit to the head, he never left his feet, but it was predatory, which is what hockey hits are all about
The hit itself is clean, as there was no contact to the head, and Pominville wasn't facing the boards. However, it is a penalty, and it was just a useless play by Hjalmarsson that ended up getting a player hurt.
@brettsopocy14: Pomminville gets hit pretty squarely on the '9' on the back of his jersey, which isn't part of the right shoulder. He also hadn't touched the puck when he got hit. Hjalmarsson almost certainly wasn't trying to kill the guy but it definitely isn't a "good" hit.
what is the difference wether or not he sees him when he gets his face smoked off the boards from the BLINDSIDE. If the league is gonna crack down on this garbage then suspend this piece of shit scumbag
Face it hockey is the toughest professional sport, so people are going to get injured just get used to it. What do you think is going to happen when you take athletes that weigh up to 265 lbs and then put them on ice skates and allow them to hit each other. Think about this, are there any penalties in football for hitting someone a certain way, the answer to that is no, other than a clip which isn't for the safety of the player. So quit bitching about how he should be suspended it annoying
Hjalmarsson hit him into the boards from the right shoulder, which is a clean check for all of you idiots out there that just watch hockey but don't play hockey, and don't know all of the rules. you can't even compare this check to Alex Ovechkin's check on Brian Campbell in the 2008-2009 regular season(which if I have to remind you was only a 5 game suspension as well). Is it an unfortunate occurrences to hjalmarssons check.
it was all clean if anything it should have been a 2 min. charging penalty, watch the replays he didn't hit him from behind, and it can't be a boarding penalty because his back want to the borders. so get your facts right before you post a stupid comment, anyone who thinks this hit should be a 5 game or more suspension are dumb asses. yes I play hockey so I know what its like to be in that situation, so don't post something about saying how I can't understand how that is, because I do understand
Any suspension should equal the length of time that Pominville is out. That hit by Matt Cooke last year on Savard...Savard is STILL out, and Cooke is still playing. Hjalmarsson should be suspended for his hit because it was exactly the kind of hit that the NHL gave lip service to stopping. He hit Pominville in the back, and before the puck arrived. Pominville is guilty of trusting that the guy would not hit him int he back, and he is paying for that trust now. Suspension should be significant.
It wasn't dirty except he didn't have the puck yet.....so yea I think a 3-5 game suspension is in order....but if you slow mo down and watch it piece by piece..... his shoulder NEVER HIT his head... ......You guys are tool bags if you think it was a boarding he even saw it coming.......I say suspend the glass for giving him the concussion
Not dirty but harsh. He'll be suspended hopefully. it's up to players to make smarter decisions. You can find yourself in a position to pummel another human a dozen times in a game. There's needs to be some respect.
That was just dirty. You cant say one thing that makes this hit clean. Behind, didnt know he was coming, how big of a fucking pussy is Hjalmarsson? Suspend Hjalmarsson for sure
I agree with a lot of the posts that this wasn't a dirty hit. He should be suspended for the rough boarding but there was no intent to injure. 3-5 games for sure.
@golferadam8 I agree complete. Pominville even took two glances at Hjalmarsson coming at him and braced himself for it. Unfortunately it looks like Pomi got the concussion from the whiplash when his head hit the glass. I bet if he came out ok with it, it would of just been a monstrous and legal hit.
both players are in a tough spot, hjalmarsson has to make a quick decision to get the puck, pominville has wait for that pass... 1 or 2 games should do it. No elbow or stick, no intent to injure, no contact with the head, didn't aim for the numbers. At 1:49 Hjalmarsson seems to throw his body hip on hip but pominville hits the glass so hard afterwards... He hadn't touched the puck tho and he boarded him good.
Although I agree this was a dirty hit, and that the hit deserves a suspension of 1 or 2 games, I do not believe that the intent was to injure. It quite clear in the replay that Hajlmarson did not jump or elbow Pominville into the boards. He hit him from behind, obviously trying to move the body and play the puck.
But you can't hit someone from behind, specially a player without the puck - so yes, a suspension should be given here, but no more than 2 games.
Dirty hit. Just because Pominville turned his head slightly to the right, doesn't mean he saw a player BEHIND him. Hjalmarsson should be suspended 3-5 games.
If you've played hockey at any level from High School JV and up, you had to have run breakout drills in practice. The Sabres were trying to break it out, and as a wing, Pominville should have had his back to the boards ready to receive the pass up the boards. The pass got broken up by the Hawks forechecker, so Pominville took the risk of trying to go to the puck, and he paid for it. The hit was hard, but not malicious or totally from behind. The regular speed replay makes it look way worse.
@BlakeRez and if you've played hockey at all then you would know that you can't hit a player without the puck. the replay clearly shows that pominville never touched the puck.
@808state909 at the same time he stepped up at about the same time, if you played hockey you would know sometimes people time things a little early and you cant bail out on it..it wasnt a clean hit but a split second later its nothing
@kerleyfries2 yeah and those people who sometimes hit people without the puck sit in the box for 2 minutes or in this case get suspended because they also board the player. just because you anticipate where the puck is going doesn't mean you can crush the guy before he gets the puck. this is called interference.
@808state909 he stepped up at about the same time the puck came, if you played hockey you would know sometimes people time things a little early and you cant bail out on it..it wasnt a clean hit but a split second later its nothing
@808state909 and YOU'VE clearly never played hockey either, unless is some pussy american or 3rd world country league. Learn the fucking rules of the game kid
@808state909 I know the rules, I get paid to know the rules i'm a referee for hockey canada and if you were anything more than just a casual fan you would know you can hit people in some cases who never touched the puck.
@mossimo09 No, you can't. It's called interference. Just because you ref some garbage league in canada (probably beer league) doesn't mean you are the law on the rules. In hockey, you cannot hit players who do not have the puck.
@808state909 Listen dumbfuck if you are eligible to play the puck you are allowed to be hit. And just in case your low iq doesn't comprehend what I just said. If you are close enough to play the puck you are fair game. Don't believe me? Go sign up for a referee course yourself
@mossimo09 Again, you can't hit players who do not have the puck, end of story. Your insults do nothing but make you look like a 9 year old (Leafs fan).
@808state909 i'm with mossimo09. 808 you are right if Pominville didn't have the puck in possession. However he was accepting a pass and control of the puck and in doing so deems him to have the puck canceling out the interference. You can't hit players who never had a chance in gaining possession or playing the puck. That is a true intereference call!
@mossimo09 You are a fuckin dumbass. I'm pretty sure there is a penalty involved if someone gets hit when they don't have the puck on their stick. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i am pretty sure that's what's known as INTERFERENCE. If a player passes the puck, he can still be legally body-checked if the opponent is approximately a stick length away from the player. This is known as FINISHING THE CHECK, this is the only time you can legally hit someone without the puck.
@CanadianBeer77 Yo dumbass read the rule book its always been if you are in range of playing the puck you can be hit. Fucking casuals dont know the rules wow
There is no way anyone can defend Hjalmarsson on this play. There is no way Pominville could have seen it coming. This is what the League has been talking about for the past few seasons. This is a very dirty blindside hit, and the chicago defenseman should receive no less than 5 games suspension. I dont care if he's "not that type of player." He is now. Shame on anyone trying to defend Hjalmarsson. Thanks to this douche Pominville will miss his first game in 335 consecutive starts.
@Lambe1025 You're joking right? Put away your bias, learn the rules of the game, and watch what actually happened. A clean hit from the side that was interference at worst and was blown out of proportion. He saw Hjalmarsson coming, Hjalmarsson was coasting into the hit, and he never left his feet or viciously attacked Pominville's head or any other part of his body. The hit was early, but not by much, and that's the only thing that makes it illegal.
@rivanisz clean hit my ass, its closer to the back than to the side and the shoulder, and saying he saw him coming is retarded, cheap hit didnt have the puck and the injury, i say 5 games
@TheCoyote99 He turned his head and watched him come right at him. You are right however that it was closer to the back. This hit wasnt cheap though but more of misfortuned and miscalculated.
@jkrx Are you retarded? He was looking down at the puck you fool. If you're referring for the split second he looked back early on, how was he to know this idiot would take 3-4 hard strides and drill him from behind? If you can see the numbers, it's a dirty hit.. especially if the player charges. Don't believe something because an announcer says it.
@Lambe1025 you are a blind retard that has no clue about reality pominville got hit so go on and cry about it douche its called hockey not girls field hockey you pathetic baby
@Jmitts84 The puck was coming to him. He was getting the puck. Hjallmarson was doing his job by finishing the check. Most of the time in that situation the forward has to skate north instead of south backwards. He left himself in a vulnerable position. i guess you are a sabres fan. Thats why you think its dirty. I am impartial and I think Pominville could have protected himself better.
I was at that game

@mossimo09 took you long enough to respond. was it past your bedtime? in those 10 hours you could have come up with an original insult and also read the NHL rules. Nowhere in those rules does it state any of the bullshit that you mention.

@808state909 Normal athletes have a balanced sleep schedule unlike your loser ass staying up all night trying to prove false facts. As for the exact NHL rule where you are "apparently" getting your information from. Here a tip dumbfuck they dont release the full rule book to the public.
mossimo09 1 year ago
@mossimo09 LOL nice try. the rules are posted on the NHL website, but i can't post links. if you dumb canadians knew how to google, you might be able to find it and subsequently stop posting your moronic garbage. that probably won't happen though
808state909 1 year ago
@808state909 "about to receive the puck isn't possession" yes it is dumb fuck if your able to play the puck you are considered to have possession dumb kike.
And those arnt the rule books they give the referees on the website you ignorant fuck. NHL referees have came to our referee meetings and talked to us about their progress into the NHL, they showed us their offical rule books for the NHL. Its a lot bigger than that fucking teenagers book they call a rule book on the NHL website.
mossimo09 1 year ago
@mossimo09 so quote from the big book then. about to receive a pass is not possession and i will guarantee that you will not find any of that bullshit in your made up rulebook. you don't need a novel to define interference and this is a prime example.

We are just giving the shit back!

raran44 1 year ago
To extend from my previous comment, I do believe the 2 game suspension is a little rash but what can you do and since I'm a fan of neither team I'm not sticking up for either one. Yes, Pominville did not touch the puck for long but had it close around him long enough to be considered "having possession of the puck." So that is also out of the question. Only thing dirty about this video is the commentators not doing their damn job and reporting on shit that actually matters.
Terbear92 1 year ago
This is definitely a hard one to call. Pominville saw Hjalmarsson and didn't prepare for the hit so his fault on that part. Hjalmarsson could have angled his hit a little better than that. 100% no intent to injure (No elbow, no fists, didn't leave his feet, etc.) Suspension? In my opinion, no because it looks worse than it actually is. Technically this is a shoulder to shoulder hit with a bad finish. I do think however it is a deserved game misconduct for boarding but that's about it.
Terbear92 1 year ago
@Terbear92 how can you say that!?!?! players are not supposed to hit from behind so why would it be his fault because he "didnt prepare for the hit"?????????
buffalobills91 1 year ago
@buffalobills91
Terbear92 wants to see his favorite player drilled into the boards and see what the consequences are.
audioexcels 1 year ago
@audioexcels I have a feeling if Terbear92's favorite player is Hjalmarsson he might get to see that on Saturday... except, coming from Pat Kaleta they will be clean hits...

I have no problem with Kaleta doing some of his magic tricks going in hard on the forecheck and accidentally crushing Hammer's face into the boards...oh woops...I got him with the shoulder so it's all good no?
audioexcels 1 year ago

If he would've taken less sharp of an angle and gotten Pominville from the side, or not into the boards, maybe there's no news about .
guitarnicky20 1 year ago
@guitarnicky20 i agree with you at 100%....
the only thing is, that he didnt kept skating toward pominville. he stopped skating just after the blue line. from the 1st angle he seems to come way faster then the other angles.
but still, the league wants to stop all "dirty" hits, and i agree with them. i like a clean hit, but nothing from behind.
originally a shoulder check is supposed to separate the player from the puck. not to hurt or even injure the player.
rx7outlaw 1 year ago

It's a shame Pominville got hurt, but let them play the game.

not a hit to the head... but that was definitely boarding at the very least. It's just one of those hits where the wrong things happened at the wrong time... I hope Pominville is okay, but lets all get off Hjalmarsson's case... it may have been a shady hit, but not a dirty one... there was no charge, no hit to the head, he never left his feet, but it was predatory, which is what hockey hits are all about
darkfyre2k7 1 year ago
The hit itself is clean, as there was no contact to the head, and Pominville wasn't facing the boards. However, it is a penalty, and it was just a useless play by Hjalmarsson that ended up getting a player hurt.

@brettsopocy14: Pomminville gets hit pretty squarely on the '9' on the back of his jersey, which isn't part of the right shoulder. He also hadn't touched the puck when he got hit. Hjalmarsson almost certainly wasn't trying to kill the guy but it definitely isn't a "good" hit.

So quit bitching about how he should be suspended it annoying
brettsopocy14 1 year ago
@brettsopocy14
Theres legal hit, and theres illegal hit. Theres "safe" hit and dangerous hits.
If theres no penalty in football for hitting its just because you cant destroy somebody in the board! WHERES THE BOARD IN FOOTBALL??
And secondly, this hit from Hjalmarsson was absolutly useless during this situation. So what was his intentions? Kill Jason Pominville???
Hits should still a part of hockey, not intellectual comotions.
FrankYdole 1 year ago
Hjalmarsson hit him into the boards from the right shoulder, which is a clean check for all of you idiots out there that just watch hockey but don't play hockey, and don't know all of the rules. you can't even compare this check to Alex Ovechkin's check on Brian Campbell in the 2008-2009 regular season(which if I have to remind you was only a 5 game suspension as well). Is it an unfortunate occurrences to hjalmarssons check.

it was all clean if anything it should have been a 2 min. charging penalty, watch the replays he didn't hit him from behind, and it can't be a boarding penalty because his back want to the borders. so get your facts right before you post a stupid comment, anyone who thinks this hit should be a 5 game or more suspension are dumb asses. yes I play hockey so I know what its like to be in that situation, so don't post something about saying how I can't understand how that is, because I do understand
brettsopocy14 1 year ago
Any suspension should equal the length of time that Pominville is out. That hit by Matt Cooke last year on Savard...Savard is STILL out, and Cooke is still playing. Hjalmarsson should be suspended for his hit because it was exactly the kind of hit that the NHL gave lip service to stopping. He hit Pominville in the back, and before the puck arrived. Pominville is guilty of trusting that the guy would not hit him int he back, and he is paying for that trust now. Suspension should be significant.
DudeInSkirt 1 year ago
Hjalmarsson is known for these borderline type of hits. I could go either way with this.

MrFunkylovin 1 year ago
Not dirty but harsh. He'll be suspended hopefully. it's up to players to make smarter decisions. You can find yourself in a position to pummel another human a dozen times in a game. There's needs to be some respect.

I agree with a lot of the posts that this wasn't a dirty hit. He should be suspended for the rough boarding but there was no intent to injure. 3-5 games for sure.
golferadam8 1 year ago
@golferadam8 I agree complete. Pominville even took two glances at Hjalmarsson coming at him and braced himself for it. Unfortunately it looks like Pomi got the concussion from the whiplash when his head hit the glass. I bet if he came out ok with it, it would of just been a monstrous and legal hit.

GiffyLube 1 year ago
both players are in a tough spot, hjalmarsson has to make a quick decision to get the puck, pominville has wait for that pass...
JimB667 1 year ago
Although I agree this was a dirty hit, and that the hit deserves a suspension of 1 or 2 games, I do not believe that the intent was to injure. It quite clear in the replay that Hajlmarson did not jump or elbow Pominville into the boards. He hit him from behind, obviously trying to move the body and play the puck.
But you can't hit someone from behind, specially a player without the puck - so yes, a suspension should be given here, but no more than 2 games.
IanoPiano 1 year ago
Dirty hit. Just because Pominville turned his head slightly to the right, doesn't mean he saw a player BEHIND him. Hjalmarsson should be suspended 3-5 games.

@celigt03 i agree 5 games would be the right amount because hes not a repeat offender or a dirty player but just got caught up in one bad hit
TheCoyote99 1 year ago
If you've played hockey at any level from High School JV and up, you had to have run breakout drills in practice. The Sabres were trying to break it out, and as a wing, Pominville should have had his back to the boards ready to receive the pass up the boards. The pass got broken up by the Hawks forechecker, so Pominville took the risk of trying to go to the puck, and he paid for it. The hit was hard, but not malicious or totally from behind. The regular speed replay makes it look way worse.
BlakeRez 1 year ago
@BlakeRez and if you've played hockey at all then you would know that you can't hit a player without the puck. the replay clearly shows that pominville never touched the puck.

@kerleyfries2 yeah and those people who sometimes hit people without the puck sit in the box for 2 minutes or in this case get suspended because they also board the player. just because you anticipate where the puck is going doesn't mean you can crush the guy before he gets the puck. this is called interference.

@808state909 i'm with mossimo09. 808 you are right if Pominville didn't have the puck in possession. You can't hit players who never had a chance in gaining possession or playing the puck. That is a true intereference call!
Terbear92 1 year ago
@mossimo09 You are a fuckin dumbass. I'm pretty sure there is a penalty involved if someone gets hit when they don't have the puck on their stick. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i am pretty sure that's what's known as INTERFERENCE. If a player passes the puck, he can still be legally body-checked if the opponent is approximately a stick length away from the player. This is known as FINISHING THE CHECK, this is the only time you can legally hit someone without the puck.

Lambe1025 1 year ago
@Lambe1025 You're joking right? Put away your bias, learn the rules of the game, and watch what actually happened. A clean hit from the side that was interference at worst and was blown out of proportion. He saw Hjalmarsson coming, Hjalmarsson was coasting into the hit, and he never left his feet or viciously attacked Pominville's head or any other part of his body. The hit was early, but not by much, and that's the only thing that makes it illegal.
