this was possibly the best and most fun to watch team that didn't win the world series that ever stepped on a baseball field. even though they lost to the runnin' redbirds in the series in 7 games, the '82 brewers will never be forgotten by baseball fans anywhere.
THIS is the Brewers I remember and will go down as one of my favorite teams of all time. I'm not really into the new NL Central Brewers.....this AL Brew Crew was the SHT. Oh...and I really think they go ripped off in '82....they deserved to win the WS.
Great memories of the 1982 Brewers and AL Champions! Watching the Brewers in the NLCS now made me nostalgic and I wanted to see these guys again. I miss them.
i was ther in that moment in time when they won the pennant and went for it all. baseball hasn't been the same since , God be with the boys this time! a bunch of blue collar boys from a blue collar town need to show the world that milwaukee is here for more thamn just BEER!
The Brewers have the opportunity to make amends for their 1982 WS loss this year. Not only that, but they could also face the NL Wild Card St.Louis Cardinals again.
Pretty sure Gantner hit 8th. At least in the world series because Molitor and Yount set a hit record in game 1 for hits but first two batters or something. I believe it is also the only team in MLB history to have the entire infield including the catcher bat over .300 for the season.
what a line up, i really like this current brewers team but all i can think about when milwaukee's mentioned is jeffery dahmer. he would have eaten that starting line up
Molitor, Yount, Coper, Thomas, Don Money (DH/3B), Simmons, Oglive, Moore, Gantner That's the order I believe.... could be wrong. Some times Ginger Roy Howell batted 7th as DH. Top 3 hitter were over .300... everyone else hit between .230-something and low .280's. Harvey's Wall-Bangers Bring the uniforms and symbol back!!!! Baseball sucks without a salary cap.... Milw is very, very small market for the good free agents to come to the Brewers or Bucks.
@resdsox1 -- no, that's the ONE thing Selig's done right is putting Milwaukee back in the senior circuit. NL's a bit more working class, e.g. Pittsburgh Chicago. Harkens back to the old Mil. Braves days.
@flibideegibbit the milwaukee braves, what are you talking about? that was almost 2 centuries ago. i still dont know what the brewers are doing in the nl central, when i was growing up they were in the al east. i remember those guys- rob deer, dude would bat 179 yet finish on 30 homeruns every year. him, fernando vina, and bj surhoff- even as a yankee fan i remember those teams
I love the Brewers' tribute, but not sure where you're getting the lineup. Gantner hit 9th, not 2nd. (Yount hit 2nd). You've got Benji and Gorman Thomas flipped in the order. Ted Simmons hit cleanup, not 7th. Gantner hit ninth, not the pitcher. They didn't even let the pitchers hit in the World Series then. Plus, I think you're forgetting about Roy Howell and Don Money as the DH. Again, I like the tribute. But, it seems more than a tad bit off.
I saw the first game the Brewers ever played in 1970. a 12-0 loss to the Angels. Wish I would have kept the stub. Great team in 1982. Always fun to watch. The greatest uniforms in baseball. Bring 'em back
Great team - Great memories - Great characters! But I remember the batting lineup as Molitor - Yount - Cooper - Thomas - Oglivie - Simmons - (DH) - Moore - Gantner. DH was usually Money or Howell, maybe Brouhard or Bando. I was eleven at the time - I love that team!
Being "anti-wisc" in virtually everything, have to admit I actually loved this team. The everyday line-up was scary good. I still remember Game 7 when Benji hit the homer to give the Brewers the lead before it turned to garbage. If I remember correctly I believe the Brewers blew em out of the park in game 1 like 10-0. Is this the game when Ladd walked in the winning run? I can remember crap like this nearly 30 years later but can't recall what I had for breakfast this morning.
Actually, back in those days, the DH rule was determined by year, not by who was the home team. I know this because the Yankees took Tommy John out of game six of the '81 series in New York for a pinch hitter, thus allowing the Dodgers to rally and become the World Champs.
So despite game 1 of the '82 series being in an NL ballpark, both teams used a DH.
I just reread other comments and realize I may be fuzzy on the order of Thomas, Oglivie & the DH spot. I know they were always 5-6-7 but I may have them confused. Same with Moore & Gantner. I know they were 8-9 but I could have them backwards as well.
You had most of it right. But the batting order for most of that season (after Harvey Kuehn took over) was as follows: 1. Molitor 3B 2. Yount SS 3. Cooper 1B 4. Simmons C 5. Thomas CF 6. Oglivie LF 7. Don Money or Roy Howell DH (based on whether the opposing pitcher was RH/LH) 8. Gantner 2B 9. Moore RF When Kuehn became manager, he settled on this batting order and the offense became productive because players knew where they'd be batting in the same spot everyday.
Oh so true. These were the ingredient's for "Harvey's Wallbangers". Any true baseball fan would know this. So all you young'uns keep your comments to yourselves if you don't follow the national past time!
you forgot the DH for the 1982 America League Eastern division champs was Theodore Lyle Simmons and Charlie Moore played right field as well as catcher as and you cant forget Mark Brohard,Don Money,Ned Yost and others I cant think of without further research. Other than that good job.

HEY MAN THIS IS WRONG!! I watched dozens of Brewers games that year because the team was so exciting. I also went to game 5 of the World Series that year and still have the program. You need to change this. Here is the correct batting order which was used over 90% of the time that year. Molitor 3B, Yount SS, Cooper 1B, Simmons C, Ogilivie LF, Thomas CF, Money DH, Moore RF, Gantner 2B. Do your research and get it correct.
I'm so glad to be a George Brett fan and to have see the Royals win the '85 Series over the Cardinals. And don't go blaming the umpire from Game 6. The Cards hit .185 for the Series. They could've come out in game 7 and proved they were the better team. Instead, an 11-0 loss. The Royals also won games 3 & 5 by the exact scores of 6-1. Thus, in those 3 wins wins the Royals outscored the Cards 23-2. So, don't blame the ump. The Cards had ace John Tudor pitching game 7 too, but still got blown out.
who gives a shit we have 10 titles and unlike the Royals we are competitive year after year. We have won a title, in the last five years and the Royals havent had a good team since 1985 you can have it. The Royals have been in the league since 1969 and they have 2 pennants and a title and nothing since 1985. The cards since 1969 have 5 pennants 2 titles and they have won 5 of the last nine division titles while the George Brett's retired and Pujols is the best hitter ever to come out of KC
Your comments just validate that you are a front runner. You only like a team when they win. You probably became a Cards fan in '06 when they won it all and you jumped on the band wagon. Also, if you understood the economics of baseball you wouldn't be comparing the Cards with today's Royals. You are obviously ignorant. Also, the Royals were good thru 1994. And the Cardinals team of 2006, worst team ever to win a World Series!! Lucky to be in a bad division and win it with a subpar 83-78 record.
Yes in 2006 thats why Im quoting 1982 highlights retard. I have been a fan all my life my dad lived next to Whitey in New Athens Il. and I have been to 9 stadiums to see my redbirds 5 years striaght to Busch stadium west otherwise known as Kauffman stadium whats it like watching a sea of red when you play the cards at home every year? Its funny that Kaufman is the only other stadium Pujols took a curtain call besides busch how sad
uuuhhh.....not a Royals fan here. Not sure how old you are, but the Royals had winning seasons in the late 80s and early 90s, were in the pennant race for the AL West(at the time) till the final weeks. Also in 2003 they led the AL Central all yr will the last few weeks. finished with a winning record. Last ones in 2003, 1994, and most of the yrs before then.
Guess what the Royals lose again. But as a Royals fan you are use to that more than anyone in baseball i the last 15 years even the Nationals wow you suck.
The Brewers are going to go to another World Series. I'm not prodicting this year (although I hope every year), and I'm not prodicting next year. But they will and hopefully in my lifetime.
I was 10 years old when this team went to the world series and believe it or not, I didn't know that their logo had an m and a b to form that baseball glove, LoL. I just thought it was a baseball glove. Then when they removed it, I read what it was, looked at it again and was like "Ah snap, that's clever!" Yeah, they used to beat up on my team, the Orioles that season but we ended up winning it all the next season.
I was 12 when i seen them the lose the world series to the cardinals.I hated it.I'm not a brewers, but i remember that team of that year.Thats how much i was impressed with that killer line up.They were tough on opposing pitchers.Should've won that series.
this years rays and the '82 brewers are extackly alike because it took the rays tenish years to make the playoffs when they became a franchise and same with the brewers and now i guarantee the rays won't go to the playoffs for another 26 years
I remember it all like it was Yesterday, I was 6 Years Old and in the First Grade when they last Made they Playoffs they also got to the World Series with these Guys, and Now I'm 32 Years Old a Homemaker and Chef, and I'm Happy that the Brewers Finally got in the Playoffs 26 years have Past I did a lot over the Years so did the Brewers, with CC, Braun, Prince, Corey hart Now as well as Moliter, Yount and Gorman Thomas then, The BREW CREW is not ones to mess with in The Playoffs, GO BREWERS.
Great lineup they swept my ANGELS in 82 i was 15 i cried one freakin game away to face the cards ,heartbraker also in 86 heartbreaker, waited until 2002, hope u guys dont wait that long to enjoy one good luck
I really enjoyed this team. I remembered most of them: Yount, Thomas, Coop, Oglivie. I had forgotten about Ted Simmons, who spent a lot of time in the NL. He was always one of my favorites as a kid.
I'll bet he can still hit too. He's my favorite player of all time. One of 4 players in Baseball history to make League MVP at 2 different positions. He could have gotten all the money in the world but he stayed in Milwaukee. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. I loved to hear he was back in Milwaukee as the Batting coach.
what the fuck is a shithea, oh yeah it is the trailer trash language from minnesota. shut the fuck up before i go to your hick state, go to your house, take your computer shine it up real nice and shove it up your candy ASS! do you smell what i am cooking?
dude that was just 1 loss we still gonna win the divison cus the white sox pitching is fading and KC is a tough at home so u shut the fuck up fag. White sox royals brewers all suck dick
greatest franchise in baseball is boston fagget. the one team that will beat you to take the wild card. the twins gave up their best players so i would shut the fuck up. ryan braun is better than anyone on the twins, and sabathia and sheets own your fucking rotation, this is a brewers film so why the fuck is a fagget white trash twin fan on it? oh yeah twins have nothing to be proud of.
Listen u fagget Justin Morneau has won the MVP he is better than Ryan Braun whovever that fag is CC sabathia will leave the fuckin crew and go to a better team, lets SAY THE CUBS. thats right fucktard cubs r better than the brewers and if mil makes the playoffs they will get swept haa SO FUCK U LOSER
u are the biggest fucking retard i have ever heard of. cc will NEVER be a cub, but you are from hick state minnesota so it makes sense to you guys. CC owns your fucking rotation, 6 wins zero loses, 4 CG. look at the stats bitch
w0w im a hillbilly ROFL boy u sure r retarted why don't go back to the 3rd grade u have a lot of learning to do bitch. OH and btw i fucked ur mom real good last night and she liked it.
i fail at life, you are fucking hilarious, you have the worst fucking life imaginable since your boyfriend left u and you take it out on other people like me, so shut the fuck up. their are plenty of other men out their for you
you guys have gotten way off track here...Brewers are hot, but the Cubs actually have a hell of a squad, it will be interesting to see how they blow it. I got the Brew crew winning the wild card......Twins got a tough road trip coming up i think the W Sox might distance themselves from them. Dont sleep on the Angels...they play fundamental like the Twins but with real MLB players..not a dis to the Twins - its amazing what they do with that small market payroll- thank god they weren't contracted
u have respect what the twins have done this year with trading santana and tori hunter and STILL in contention. brewers r hot but can they stay hot the rest of the way cus they have no been to playoffs since 1982.
That's it,that's the one song that fits the 1982 brewers!!! Jesus Christ that team had the greatest work ethic ever!!!! The Ignitor knew how to bunt for a hit and he was very very good at it!!!And with Gumby at second base his defense and his pull-no-punches attitude on the field, gotta love a player who took no shit from nobody!!! (especially Juaquin Andujar). Followed by Rockin' Robin and his approach in every at bat never ever did I see him lolly gag to 1st base,NEVER!!! I reached my 500 limit
If it wasn't for the game called because of rain in St. Louis the BREW CREW would of took the series. It broke my heart. It was an honor to watch them play at County Stadium, where tail-gate parties became a way a life. Thanks for the memories!
Man, does that take me back. Gave me goosebumps. Almost as much as the final day at county (country) stadium video with Uecker's speech. I grew up in Milwaukee in the 70s and 80s. Movies like this really make me miss living there.
Oh MAN does this bring back memories. Brats n' Beer at County Stadium. "We ain't leavin till we're heavin'"
I lived in Milwaukee from 1974 to 84. I was at the game when they won the AL Championship that year. Went to probably 50 games. God those were the days ! AL East = toughest division in baseball at that time.
I remember Stormin' Gorman sitting in the dugout smoking a cigarette between innings - LOL - he was an animal !
The most used batting order was: 3b Molitor ss Yount 1b Cooper c Simmons lf Oglivie cf Thomas dh Howell rf Moore 2b Ganter And Mike Caldwell started the most games, 4 more the Vuckovich. They both started 2 WS games.
love the backround seeger music but ted simmons didnt hit 7th he was clean up all year and robin yount hit 2nd and cooper hit 3rd your line up is way off dude
Bye the way, I'm picking you guys to win the NL in 2008 and I'm preety damned good at this. If the starters are healthy and Gagne is over his Boston (sniff) meltdown, you will do well! As a 35 year Baseball fan I love seeing the Brewers back in the picture!
Great team, they had so much power for the time, as a lifelong Red Sox fan I could never get over seeing Oglive and Cooper in Milwawkee..I loved them both in Boston. We got one (1!) good year from the Boomer for Cooper and Cecil stared for years in Wisconsin. Also ya'll had GRAET hats, bring 'em back..i wish ya'll were still in the AL..we miss ya. I remember Rick Wise losing a no-no with two out in the 9th up there way back in 75 on back homers .
ok u are the best baseball fan ive ever met. im sure glad were not in the AL though lol wed get blown off the table by the sox and the yanks. great job in the series last year...i hope to see boston there again this year. im also a red sox fan..favorite team in the AL. I sure wish some of the Cubs fans would take a commenting lesson from you cuz they are the most ignorant people ive ever met. good luck to boston this season.
what a sick lineup that 1982 team had....it's a shame they lost to a clearly inferior cardinal team in the series...if rollie fingers had played they'd have won it in 5 games
I remember when this lineup won the AL championship and me and my older brother went to downtown Milwaukee on Wisconsin Ave. to celebrate with the rest of the city. Most vivid memory was the bus driver who was waving the broom out his window. Thanks for this.
wow i will never foget that season.i was 12 and so into baseball.and now all these years later still a fan.and mark brouhard was my favorite.just kidding my fav was coop the scoop who i think is one of mlb best ever.
Man what a trip. As a Brewer fan and from Wisconsin, I certainly wish I was alive in 82. I hope 2008 is the year the Brewers finally make the playoffs because its been too long. I hope all the pieces finally come in place defensively and pitching wise. I hope Cameron solidifies center, Braun adjusts to left field, Weeks improves in hitting, Kendell proves to be a solid defensive catcher, and Gagne becomes the consistent closer he once was. Lets roll the barrel crew.
I know... 07 They were soooo close. ONE GAME AWAY LAST YEAR!!! I was ticked off when i was watching the game hoping that they win and cubs lost their game ( also going on at same time)!!! SOOO CLOSE!
Though I was a Cardinal Fan, I must admit that when Ted Simmons hit a line shot off of J. Andujar, I laughed until I cried. Daryl Porter was a joke and a very sub par player and when Simmons was traded by Herzog, I was really upset. Go Cardinals! Thanks for all the great memories Ted. This Brewer team I must admit was a great lineup. Thanks for posting. (Simmons should be in Hall of Fame) Compare the Stats!
i cant stand the brewers cause they beat the angles in 1982 which was horrible .that was my favorite team the 82 angles .carew grich de cinces jackson .i could go on forever baby
It's "o.k." - brings back good memories...BUT where's the DH? The BrewCrew was in the American League...not the NL, so Vuck wouldn't be batting. How about Don Money? Mark Brouhard? Roy Howell?
I still have my pizzahut placemates. remember the Ronald mcDonald House mates. i think it was a fundraiser for them. But man that 82' team really rocked. great video
A philly fan calling somebody a loser? Look up the word loser in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of all the fucking philadelphia sports teams. Nice try asshole.
This was the best team ever to NOT win a World Series championship. If only Mr. Fingers was there for the series against the Cards.......They should as a consolation get the award for the bust mushtaches EVER!!! haha
this was possibly the best and most fun to watch team that didn't win the world series that ever stepped on a baseball field. even though they lost to the runnin' redbirds in the series in 7 games, the '82 brewers will never be forgotten by baseball fans anywhere.

HAHA, perfectly summerized. : D

who gives a shit we have 10 titles and unlike the Royals we are competitive year after year. We have won a title, in the last five years and the Royals havent had a good team since 1985 you can have it. The Royals have been in the league since 1969 and they have 2 pennants and a title and nothing since 1985. The cards since 1969 have 5 pennants 2 titles and they have won 5 of the last nine division titles while the George Brett's retired and Pujols is the best hitter ever to come out of KC
heimtime3 2 years ago
Your comments just validate that you are a front runner. You only like a team when they win. You probably became a Cards fan in '06 when they won it all and you jumped on the band wagon. Also, if you understood the economics of baseball you wouldn't be comparing the Cards with today's Royals. You are obviously ignorant. Also, the Royals were good thru 1994. And the Cardinals team of 2006, worst team ever to win a World Series!! Lucky to be in a bad division and win it with a subpar 83-78 record.
simplygu 2 years ago

Last ones in 2003, 1994, and most of the yrs before then.
jkbezo1 2 years ago
My mistake, I meant 1993.
jkbezo1 2 years ago
yes whatever they were good 1 year in the last 15 so what they dont compare to the cards thats all Im saying.
heimtime3 2 years ago
Guess what the Royals lose again. But as a Royals fan you are use to that more than anyone in baseball i the last 15 years even the Nationals wow you suck.

Congrats, you fit the part perfectly. You're a douche bag...

The Brewers are going to go to another World Series. I'm not prodicting this year (although I hope every year), and I'm not prodicting next year. But they will and hopefully in my lifetime.

also, where's the DH?
dude, come on. are you even from Milwaukee?!
pfliegaphonic 2 years ago 2
Gantner almost never batted second in this lineup... Yount did. Cooper third, then the power hitters. Gantner batted last.
pfliegaphonic 2 years ago
I was 10 years old when this team went to the world series and believe it or not, I didn't know that their logo had an m and a b to form that baseball glove, LoL. I just thought it was a baseball glove. Then when they removed it, I read what it was, looked at it again and was like "Ah snap, that's clever!" Yeah, they used to beat up on my team, the Orioles that season but we ended up winning it all the next season.

this years rays and the '82 brewers are extackly alike because it took the rays tenish years to make the playoffs when they became a franchise and same with the brewers and now i guarantee the rays won't go to the playoffs for another 26 years

They need to bring back those road uni's with the blue and yellow hats. Best uniforms in MLB history if you ask me.

I heard that the Brewers are getting rid of the Retro Jerseys altogether now that they've made the playoffs.

If that's true, that SUCKS! Doesn't management look in the stands and see that 3/4 of the crowd is wearing retro stuff?

I really enjoyed this team. I remembered most of them: Yount, Thomas, Coop, Oglivie. I had forgotten about Ted Simmons, who spent a lot of time in the NL. He was always one of my favorites as a kid.

He should have went in pinch hit for Cory Hart against the Phillies.
jkbezo 3 years ago
I'll bet he can still hit too. He's my favorite player of all time. One of 4 players in Baseball history to make League MVP at 2 different positions. He could have gotten all the money in the world but he stayed in Milwaukee. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. I loved to hear he was back in Milwaukee as the Batting coach.

MikeJustbringit 3 years ago
greatest franchise in baseball is boston fagget. the one team that will beat you to take the wild card. the twins gave up their best players so i would shut the fuck up. ryan braun is better than anyone on the twins, and sabathia and sheets own your fucking rotation, this is a brewers film so why the fuck is a fagget white trash twin fan on it? oh yeah twins have nothing to be proud of.
Osamsboom27 3 years ago
Listen u fagget Justin Morneau has won the MVP he is better than Ryan Braun whovever that fag is CC sabathia will leave the fuckin crew and go to a better team, lets SAY THE CUBS. thats right fucktard cubs r better than the brewers and if mil makes the playoffs they will get swept haa SO FUCK U LOSER

MikeJustbringit 3 years ago
you guys have gotten way off track here...Brewers are hot, but the Cubs actually have a hell of a squad, it will be interesting to see how they blow it.
HareTuriya 3 years ago
u have respect what the twins have done this year with trading santana and tori hunter and STILL in contention. brewers r hot but can they stay hot the rest of the way cus they have no been to playoffs since 1982.
MikeJustbringit 3 years ago
That's it,that's the one song that fits the 1982 brewers!!! Jesus Christ that team had the greatest work ethic ever!!!! The Ignitor knew how to bunt for a hit and he was very very good at it!!!And with Gumby at second base his defense and his pull-no-punches attitude on the field, gotta love a player who took no shit from nobody!!! (especially Juaquin Andujar). Followed by Rockin' Robin and his approach in every at bat never ever did I see him lolly gag to 1st base,NEVER!!! I reached my 500 limit

I remember Rick Wise losing a no-no with two out in the 9th up there way back in 75 on back homers .
peace

ok u are the best baseball fan ive ever met. im sure glad were not in the AL though lol wed get blown off the table by the sox and the yanks. great job in the series last year...i hope to see boston there again this year. im also a red sox fan..favorite team in the AL.
