Oh wow! This is cool! I've never seen this before. I'm a huge Negativland fan, going back to the Escape From Noise era, and Helter Stupid (or at least side one anyway) is one of my favorites from them.

It's funny that one single false press release took the band from having to cancel a tour for financial reasons, to getting network affiliate news coverage (and they were the lead story, no less).

PROTIP: negativland were the ones who "leaked" their (bogus) connection to the murders along with a non-existant request from the FBI to cancel their tour. News media lapped it up with ZERO research - they could've killed the story with 2 or 3 phone calls.

The story took off like a rocket. Controversy - & major hilarity - ensued, resulting in the classic "HELTER STUPID" album.

dude was an actual SST mail customer.i came across the story in the LA times there was a pic of the kids bedroom, & on the floor was a husker du LP. i checked our books & there he was. it was only a small leap & leak to the media to take it from a husker record to Negativland's Christianity is stupid, "their tour" cancled by the "FBI" & from the masters of media manipulation one of the greatest albums ever was born...always one of my favorites! just a little piece of history.
