  • wow.so nice..very very nice...this is an experience..very scary though....

one day I rocked up to 140 kmph in my 20 years old car in F3 freeway (one freeway between sydney to newcastle ) and it was scary..because if you hit something at that speed....you will be flying high...and go upwards forever..never will come back to earth...I wish i could drive on autovan...

  • @boiragirules I agree! It can a scary experience especially if you are on the road.

  • @vb642....great work man :D...

  • @depanjanrocks Thanks :-)

  • how did u get inside a driver cabin?

  • @abirbo At that time, a relative of mine used to be in the railway board - so had official permission.

  • Comment removed

  • @abirbo Thanks! Please do a search on ''Tamilnadu Exp., Loco Controls' and you will see my video showing the controls of this very same loco.

  • @vb642, Excellent video...Although I started seeing train videos recently, I liked this video very much

  • @randeepbagga I appreciate your feeback. Thanks :-)

  • Absolutely brilliant. WAP-3 Itself is a treasure:))

  • @grisham16 Thanks a lot!

  • hello u have taken a great video ,, realy thrilling ,, i have real craze in fast trains.. thanq for sharing....

  • @bunchi1976 Really glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your feedback :-)

  • 1995 ? you kidding ? by the way i always want to be on that seat !

  • what is the date ?? or can u mention the year?

  • @IRSandeep Sure, this was on August 3, 1995.

  • @vb642 oh, nice! thank yu!

  • @IRSandeep You are most welcome :-)

  • The Signals were not visible thru the Jailed window at the front of the window?? How's the driver maintaining the train??

  • @sabya11377 The visibility was better than what it seems from the video.

  • looks like its running b/w the tracks not on the track

  • Hope such trains run in our country soon.

  • it lool like the train is running between the two tracks

  • look derailed train at 1:30

  • lloks like 145 to me. the last one marked is 160. also the bhopal shatabdi is allowed to run at 145.

  • @dedasdude The last one marked is 180. In those days, the BPL Shatabdi had an MPS of 140 kmph, so this was a clear case of overspeeding by 10 kmph.

  • @dedasdude

Nah..last mark is 180....and speed is between 145 and 150..

  • how were you allowed on the locomotive???!!!!!

  • @dedasdude Let's just say I had some high-level connections at that time :-)

  • @vb642 ahh. my grandad was in the IR as well. mums ridden on locos. but he died before i grew up, so i didnt have the chance :(

  • @dedasdude Sad to hear that :-( Which zone(s) was your granddad posted in?

  • vantage view

  • @AAAKSI Very true :-)

  • Why sound is coming in only left speaker while listening to the video?? My pc problem, or video problem??

  • @Arkchat921 No, I think it was a problem with the upload when transferring from my analog source. So, nothing wrong with your PC :)

  • i just love to drive train

  • really wonderful how India is forging ahead with its crude technology

  • This is an ideal video for all the rail fans........HATS OFF to you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Body outside cab is so dangerous.

  • Fantastic video !!

  • @Louhapath Thanks, buddy :-)

  • @vb642 Whats the place name ??

  • Chinese french britishers are running their railways at 300 + km per hour........indian railway is way behind.........bahut kuch karna hai...

  • @shahnawazalam2000 Ah! One of the those skeptics! Please check the speedometer reading at the 0.42 mark....I included that just for folks like you :-)

  • @vb642

It was by no means doing 150 kmph. I checked out the speedometer reading at 0:42. It was approximately 145kmph. Not 150!

And I had to pause to check the speed because the cam was so shaky, maybe because you used the zoom!

  • @macadom222

Its almost 150KM..the needle is between 140 and 160KM.hr so u can take it between 145 to 150KM/hr

  • @macadom222 That's because you are looking at the speedometer from an angle. It touched 150 kmph - I was physically there to see it. Of course, you can choose not to believe it - fine with me!

  • @shahnawazalam2000

Dude, the wiper was operated manually. You can clearly see the driver's hand.

  • Very primitive instruments. Absolutely unsafe cabin with open doors. No airconditioning and the loud noise adds to engineer's stress. All in all an extremely dangerous ride. Kudos to you fellas who ride in such dangerous situations and still remain cheerfull and alert.

  • @chetankathalay So u want soundproof trains?

  • When did you shoot this video, just wanted to know coz you said that there were'nt wap 4(s) in those times. thank you for sharing this great video. i was'nt finding any wap 3 photos and this video just makes my wish come true. also wanted to see wap 2 and wap 6.

  • @slipknottist This was taken in August 1995. Glad you enjoyed the video :-) WAP2 was simply a regraded version of WAM2 - WAM2's used to be seen a lot in the MGS-ASN-HWH section until the mid-to-late 90s.

  • @vb642 Thanks so much for the info. :) i really like to read the info you give in your description about all the liveries and the locos.

  • @slipknottist You are most welcome :-)

  • @slipknottist There are no WAP-2s anymore. They were all decommissioned in 1980s.

And all the WAP-6s (16 or something) have now been converted to WAP-4s.

  • @vivekrailfan thanx so much for the info :)

  • Nice video sir...!!!

    Was it GZB WAP-4?

  • @kdg81 Thanks! It was a GZB WAP3 - upgraded version of WAP1. No WAP4 in those days!

  • @vb642 i'm gonna travel in mumbai ahemdabad shatabdi express!! is it a good train! i hve came from usa??

  • @KiLlEryoman It is a very popular train - goes full pretty much all year around!

  • @coolboy123433 Nowadays with the security situation, I don't think you can get offical permission. You just have to request the LP on the spot and see if that works!

  • Lovely video Mani. Thanks for sharing with us.

  • @arzan1980 Glad you enjoyed it, Arzan :-)

  • superb video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! really loved to see this vintage video of bpl shatabdi , btw sir, which area were you passing by? Are u still a loco pilot?

  • @vibhu1000 Thanks! I was never a loco pilot - I was able to go in this ride since I used to know a high-ranking official at that time!

  • Is this considered fast by Indian standards? Also, why are the wipers not displacing the precipitation on the windshield?

  • @radbcc Although tracks have been tested to handle higher speeds, this is currently the maximum speed for a passenger train in India. The wipers were not working properly on that day!

  • didn't tha=is train engine hav digital speedometer

  • @alvista01 No, WAP3 locos did not have a digital speedometer.

  • @alvista01 These are old locomotives

  • Shit man I once had a chance to ride the Rajdhani Express from Madras to Hazrat Nizamuddin when I was 12( in the loco of course, since I knew some one in IR) I missed it. I am cursing myself now

  • @rakeshravisankar Aaaah, that would have been a terrific ride!

  • @prasun40 No bro, WAP's has the high speed upto 169kmph record run in the test period!!! So WAP-4 or WAP-3 or WAP-7 can haul thees Shatabdi at such speed !!!

  • @athidi121 That moron has no idea about a WAP3 loco...and he used objectionable words. So, I have blocked him for good. Don't want to spend even a single millisecond with low-life creatures like him! You are right...the WAP3 had actually undergone trial runs for upto 170 kmph in the NDLS-JHS section.

  • @prasun40 Hey bloody dog, You should read about Indian Locos first and then comment. WAP-7s max speed is 140 and WAP-3 used to haul BPL Shatabdi at 14-145.

  • could u explain how to get official permission

  • @anniyaninternational Hmmm..... you would have to personally know some high-ranking official in IR to have a shot at such a footplate. Now with increased security, not sure if that will be possible even after that!

  • Lucky You. Thrilling

  • @jetfighter53 Thanks!

  • how did you manage to travel in a indian railway engine cab. which is prohibited

  • @kochuvaidy I had official permission....otherwise you can't travel in a cab, you are correct!

  • Bro, u r reallly really Damnnn Lucky !!!!!

    Wish i cud shoot!!!!!

    <3 <3 <3

  • First few minutes which traks train is going ..OR is it going on both traks one rail shared....

  • @everybodylovessachin It appears like that...obviously it is going on the left track.

  • wtf how did u get infront of the main engine dude

  • Holy shit.. wipers dont work!

  • are you train driver or something?

  • @utubekhiladi No, just a crazy IR-fan :-)

  • Simply awesome... superb.... mind blowing!!!!!!!

It must have been a life time experience for you :)

    Great!!!!

  • @Sameer7678 Thanks! Yes, it was a very memorable trip, indeed!

  • @vb642 how did they let u in ???

bribed or what ??/ (I'd try it once)

  • @GyaneshISHU No! Bribing won't work here :-) I knew a high-ranking railway official at that time. So, this was done through official permission!

  • @vb642 u r damn lucky

    i wish i cud get a chance

  • Awesome capture ...

    I love the honk of P-1 & P-4 locos ...

  • @MrSarbamit Thanks! This is a rare P-3 loco.

  • was this a case of overspeeding or was the old icf rake booked to run at 160. the speedo is the old type with no recording chip. Did the overspeed alarm buzz at 150+

  • @harshu6991 Excuse the error...i meant to say booked to run at 150

  • @harshu6991 It was a case of overspeeding since the MPS at that time was 140 kmph. However, the buzzer didn't sound - I don't think they had that mechanism in place.

  • @harshu6991 Yes, it was a case of overspeeding since the MPS at that time was 140 kmph! No alarm buzzing - heck, the wipers didn't even work, so I had to manually operate them.

  • reason why bhopal shatabdi has 150 kmph speed because it has to cover

700 km in 8 hours and i think this is the farthest distance covered by any shatabdi

    thats why speed is increased

  • @shudra14 Note that the Shatabdi goes at 150 kmph. only between Faridabad and Agra Cantt. When introduced, it's top speed was 140 kmph. (in the same section) but it actually used to take lesser time overall - mainly due to lower recovery times. Recovery times (extra time given) are always the killers.

  • you are a lucky guy....good video

  • @InGaAsP That I am ......thanks!

  • Sir, thanks for sharing a masterpiece. I can only imagine how fun it would have been to do this footplating. 150KMPH and you were still taking outside view of Panto, nice but very risky. Thank you

  • @farhaans It was immense fun :-)

  • How did you manage to get into Engine room ?

  • @floatinsun Knew a railway official who was able to get me permission.

  • What went wrong with the WAP-5? This train usually gets a WAP-5. Which loco was hauling the Shatabdi Express?

  • @daredevil30000 No WAP5's in 1995! This is a WAP3 loco - only a handful of them existed at that time.

  • dear i have a doubt ,, our new generation waps also have hand operated wipers like in autorickshaw or just in wap -3..

  • @binujincy Actually, these are automatic wipers but were not working at that time. So, we had to manually operate them.

  • you are the luckiest rail fan ever!!!!

  • True :-)

  • spectacular! 150km/hr is terrific speed. Is this section pretty much flat or are there any gradients?

  • This section is pretty much flat.

  • very nice video. I've noticed that unlike other passenger cars in India. The Shatabdi coaches don't use protective grates on the windows, just regular glass. Is there a reason for that?

  • These coaches are air-conditioned, hence, they have double-glass windows without the bars.

  • I see. are they also vandal proof?

  • They can crack if hit by objects at speed but it's quite difficult to break them or take them off.

  • that was a risky one for the camera!

  • Agreed! I think I did an extreme stress test for the camcorder.

  • Hey dude even im an ardent fan of locomotives. how could u manage to get into the loco ?

  • At that time, I knew a high-ranking official in IR. Not anymore :-(

  • Is WAP 3 and WAP 2 still in use???

  • WAP2 used to run in the Allahabad-Howrah section - it's gone. There were only a handful of WAP3's - I think they have been phased out as well.

  • Always a treat to see a footplate video.

One thing I must comment about though are the manual wipers. Wouldn't it be easier to install automatic wipers rather than have the LP or ALP manually crank it every so often. I realize this clip maybe a little old so I cannot say if newer locos have automatic wipers installed or not.

Thanks for sharing this treat with us. :-)

  • Actually, they were automatic wipers but non-functional! Go figure! A loco hauling a high-speed train with both wipers broken. So, we had to operate them manually.

    Glad you liked the video.

  • awesome ...superb...nothing more to say...which loco is this?WAP 4 or WAP 1

  • Thanks! This is a WAP3 - upgraded version of WAP1. Only a handful were there for hauling the Shatabdis.

  • Wow! You are lucky to be allowed access to the front

  • I had official permission :-)

  • Ssu!

  • SSU? What does it mean?

  • Ssu is like a slang tamil word for expressing amazement or awe. It is often used in humour.

  • Ah! I get it now! I am a Tamilian as well :-)

  • :-)

  • Wow!

  • That's an expected response :-)

  • Awesome Railfanning !!! Terrific Video.

  • Thanks!

  • Wow what a speed,i think this section is trully straight and less of curves thats why loco nothes up to 150 .. Correct me if am wrong ...

  • U're right :) It's also a pretty plain section..not much inclines or slopes.....

  • True! The section from Faridabad to Agra Cantt has no major gradients.
