Would also like to add, the reason why most of the players are sold by the owner clubs in football leagues while they are still in running contracts is so that owner club can make most of the out going player.
Also if any player finishes his contract with his owner club & he doesn't renew it the player becomes free agent in which case player can join any other club at their wish. At this situation the owner club doesn't get anything out of the player, total loss for them. So it works like--- hihger no yrs in contract left = higher the release clause = higher the benefit for the owner club, if player is sold.
JR sports brief : European transfers work in way that after the contract is finalized (like 5 yrs in Torres case), the players then have a release clause in their contracts. Which means, if the player wants to exit the club b4 his contract finish or if any club wants to buy the player b4 his current contract runs out, the buying club has to pay the owner club the release clause amount(50 mil punds in Torres case), provided the player comes in terms with the new club.

Would also like to add, the reason why most of the players are sold by the owner clubs in football leagues while they are still in running contracts is so that owner club can make most of the out going player.

Also if any player finishes his contract with his owner club & he doesn't renew it the player becomes free agent in which case player can join any other club at their wish. At this situation the owner club doesn't get anything out of the player, total loss for them. So it works like--- hihger no yrs in contract left = higher the release clause = higher the benefit for the owner club, if player is sold.

JR sports brief : European transfers work in way that after the contract is finalized (like 5 yrs in Torres case), the players then have a release clause in their contracts. Which means, if the player wants to exit the club b4 his contract finish or if any club wants to buy the player b4 his current contract runs out, the buying club has to pay the owner club the release clause amount(50 mil punds in Torres case), provided the player comes in terms with the new club.
