I want to see a comparison between a DSLR and a DSLT camera in terms of image quality. Many people said the SLT mirror reduce image quality, that's just a criticism. I wanna see a real and detail image comparison to justify that claim.
@reallytb It is, but its not. It is camera-wise, but they cant call it DSLR, because of the translucent mirror technology. Produces just as good pictures/videos though, but with 7fps at an awesome price.
sorry sir, forgive my ignorance and please answer this question
what are the reasons that can make me leave this one and go to normal DSLRs ?!
any drawbacks ??! is it compatible with all sony lens ?!!
what's is the big deal DSLT or DSLR really if it does the same job and even better job for a beginner or some1 like who like to shoot AF video and great stills on the same camera !!
@euyoooo I like it, I like the handheld twilight mode for low light and everything. But, the advantages of a DSLR are more light, and Sony lenses, kind of... Well suck. You have very few choices for middle level. You have to buy zeiss which is over prices, and tamron and sigma for cheaper lenses and they are not very good. Canon offers the best entry level set ups. I'd still stick by sony myself with that said. Because the zeiss lens is worth it for me with the rest of the benefits it offers.
Sounds like someone is a Nikon fan? I think that especially because of price you should buy this camera, what dim-wit would buy something twice as expensive just to get the same results?
Hello everyone ! I just wonder if the type of external card is important for recording in HD. I own a 16 gb HDHC class 6 card, is it fast enough for recordings and taking 7/pics/sec ?
I think it's the bee's knees actually, I'm sick of getting my nose grease all over the LCD everytime i look through it. It should stick out, these arent meant to stuff in your pocket, so who cares if it sticks out a bit.
It would be nice to show the interface options that the Fn Button allows on this camera. It allows direct control over almost every setting you could need. This includes massive amounts of very fine control of WB and bracketing options. You can use the wheel to toggle the main options, or hit the center button to fine tune them. This, along with the ample direct control buttons on the camera, means you can more easily set the options you need most, without ever entering the main menu.
Great video, thanks. I'm about to purchase a camera and can't decide between this Sony A33 or the Nikon D5000, any ideas as to which is better? Any help would be greatly appriciated, thankyou =)
@Star11Light A33, hands down. The D5000 lacks AF during video, plus has a more cumbersome feel and interface. The swivel screen, like on the Canons, is totally wasted as you have essentially no useful autofocus while using it. The screen on the D5000 is abysmal in this day and age as well.
I have the a33 and when i take long exposure shots i can hear some annoying sounds coming from the camera (like a hard drive, loud sizzles..) while it's recording.
@MrWoodBeam No, make sure SteadyShot is turned off before using a tripod. If that doesn't help, then you're doing something else wrong or you got a bad camera.
The reason EVF is better than live viewfinder is because it will help you to take a better picture by telling you the info on screen. Unlike live viewfinder which does not provide any info. It is more towards user friendly but of course pro user does not required that system but once again, why not? You should try it 1st b4 u comment bro..
hey man, have you noticed any stuck pixels on your a33 view finder.. Ive noticed quite of few of them on all black backgrounds or when the lens cap is attached.. its my second one from sony now.. had it for a few days and noticed it again. doesnt bother me too much, wondering if thats just how it is, or should I return. your advice would be appreciated. i noticed red pixels w\ my lens cap attached, in low light, and one color backgrounds..? (not in the actual pic, but just the view-finder).
hi this review really helped, but when you say the electronic viewfinder isnt very bright, does that mean the images wont be as bright? so stupid question i know
In your opinion, I am looking to buy my very first SLR camera...and it has been hell looking at reviews and stuff, every single camera has its pros and cons...would you recommend the Sony SLT A33, OR the Nikon D3100?????????, there is about a $50 difference....
@newyorkr75 It really depends on what you are looking for, if you dont mind about the lack of an opical viewfinder and you do lots of sports/action photos I would probarbly get the sony. The nikon is more user freindly and has a wider range of lenses. I would consider also looking into the 500d or 550d from canon, both are superb cameras and have an excellent range of lenses. Hope this helps.
Nikon D3100 is a crippled camera (i.e. useful things like bracketing intentionally left out so that by the time people know that it's missing, they have to buy another, pricier Nikon) and no Nikon/Canon offers in-body stabilization. All Sony, Olympus and Pentax SLRs offer sensor-based in-body stabilization. Sony A33 and Pentax K-r are the best options in this price range, look up the specs and read reviews.
Hi nice video, i want to buy a new camera and I saw this and i liked it but i am not a expert, so i don't know what should i do, but after that i saw a canon camera almost in the same price, do you think that 699 canadian dollars are good price for this sony camera? and should i buy this or the canon?
your call. i chose the sony a33. i dont regret it. its helping me learn photography and still has a alot of neat features to take professional photo's w/o having to fiddle with the settings.. like auto hdr, hand held twilight...
@WhatDigitalCamera hi, i am wondering if i should buy this camera, but is there a manual video mode where you can set things as apperture, shutter speed and so on?
@psyxnl Look towards the A700 replacement - should be details sometime next year. Otherwise the Sony A580 is like a true DSLR version of the A55, albeit minus the 10fps and EVF that essentialy make up what the A55 is.
They should rather send me the cameras for an interactive and a much more entertaining review. I understand the consumer is looking for information, however at least some background music when they guy speaks would have been a plus. Sorry, but your videos are too long and very very un-entertaining. 3/10
A 'true' DSLR has an optical viewfinder. This SLT category has to utilise an EVF (electronic viewfinder) which is very different in feel and size (and the body size is smaller as a result too).
@WhatDigitalCamera is there any real difference between the two view finder type electronic and optical. coz with both u still can see the image that u r looking at..
@WhatDigitalCamera I would assume that the whole point of this camera is to make the body smaller. No other reason to eliminate the optical viewfinder. In this, I guess it succeeds, but I suspect that it would probably be wiser for most folks to wait for the second generation of this camera. An autofocus lamp for low light sure would be sweet. Everything else looks pretty good, and as long as the 30% decrease in light gathering capability doesn't affect image quality, seems like a no brainer.
@WhatDigitalCamera I like the live view, optical viewfinders are overrated. lol. The only real advantage of a DSLR is the amount of light that hits the sensor. 30% if the light is pushed away from the sensor so that means you have to compensate for it whether it's iso, aperture, or shutter.
I also noticed when using this camera, that the EVF and screen are indispensable in low-light. You can shoot with the viewfinder using AF or MF (with live magnification) long after a traditional DSLR would go back in the bag. The ability of the sensor to boost to 3200 ISO on the fly and provide you a bright image is amazingly nice.
