  • @crombieposterboy Np. In my opinion with my diesel, it's one tough engine. I have run the thing about 30k with cracked rings in the #1 cylinder and run it for the past year with a worn timing belt and the past two with a blown water pump. I have had 2500 lbs in the bed of my truck and got it up to 75mph. Toyota diesels have definitely earned my respect. That coming a long ways since my last truck was a Ford F-150 with a 300 inline six. Which is pretty indestructible. Slow but reliable.

  • @crombieposterboy I can't answer for that one but I can answer for mine which is a tad smaller. My 1L (2.2l) gets 38-42 city and 53-62 highway depending upon speed and driving conditions, hence the range. Of course the major problem with that engine, aside from getting parts, is horsepower generating 62 hp in stock trim and 93 ft-lbs of torque. Mines about 102 hp and 156 ft-lbs (cost $6,200....expensive) so it's drivable.

  • what is it , a 3l ?

  • @seanbagsss Yep, 3L series. This is a 2.8 liter direct injection SOHC diesel engine. 91 HP. 96x96 bore and stroke. Compression ratio is 22.1/1. For light truck and SUV applications. Comes as natural aspiration but turbocharger may be installed.

  • how work without water?

  • @croliv10 It can run like that for 1 minute or so until the engine warm up. If goes more, it just kill the engine.

  • That some dangeres shit. Fasten your engine next time dude. I have seen nasty, some years ago. But it sound nice!!!

  • nice!!!

  • Hello, just want to ask if you do installation of the engine if purchased at your company?? Thank you and best regards..

  • Sounds like it should be on a tractor...

  • is that missing a turbo?

  • If u got 20R engine, Can you swap with this diesel or not? and Is that still available to buy and PARTS easy to find? - Thanks for INFOS!

  • this is ok, now need a car :D

  • Will that engine bolt up to a Tacoma? If so, what years? Thanks

  • Didn't the 2.8L Diesel motor have problems with overheating?

  • what the hell was that?\

  • kd o radiador?

  • we have a 1995 turbo toyota hilux and its done 600,000ks or maybe even more and still runs like new. as all we ever have doen is replace the diff and rebuilt the gear box.

  • do you have a link ?

  • for some reason i LOVE the sound these make when cranking

  • @trains72345 I love the sound of diesel when running perid. Diesel engines are just really really cool. Especially running on used waste vegetable oil.....

  • @trains72345 the beautiful thing is theres not much cranking to it... even in cold climates they fire up before the first working cycle of four compression strokes

  • One day I'll have one in my truck!!

  • is there anyway to import diesel engines into the USA. I'm sure it's borderline illegal

  • @vampov You can import any part of any car from any country, you just can't drive a vehicle with that engine installed on the streets without proper permits. Good luck getting any permits for an overseas diesel in the coming years.

  • damn tree nazis

  • I'd love a compact diesel pickup/suv (NOT a car based 'egg' that can go down a dirt road, an actual truck based SUV that can take a beating)

  • @ChevelleSSLS6

Sure diesels are tough, but my 3.4L gas 4runner has 330,000 miles and factory tranny, engine,AC and doesn't burn oil.

  • @dgl1962 The Toyota petrol engines that are on their 4wd's are all made of cast iron which makes them a lot more durable and last longer than other petrol engines. That said, Toyota do make very strong, reliable, low hp/high torque petrol engines for the 4wd's, the diesel engines however will always still last longer as there are no electronics and they run at a lower temperature to a petrol engine.

  • Gotta love the sound, I like the 2.4 better for sound

  • the toyota L series engines are really great ones. My 2LT has done 300,000kms plus but still goes great guns.

  • its all mechanical injection?

  • what is high quality about it? that it doesn't explode or fall apart?

  • Couldn't you just imports a d4-d engine from some British wreck and install it in whatever you like... spec. a newer tacoma.

  • @eljohn3 electronic pump makes it too dificult mate, you must import computer harness and the computer.

  • those engines are the best

  • its a 2.8L out of the 4runners its a 3L

  • that engine sounds loads better than the one thats in mine, i got a 1986 mk2 hilux ,its got the LN65 engine. anybody out there know if a LN165 will fit straight in?.

  • NO Learn how to READ.

  • Cracking engine!

  • 7legrande7, you have a 2008 Toyota Hilux diesel here in the US? How the f*ck did you manage to get it here?

Let's see some pics/vids of it...

  • how do u shut off the engine

  • small engine doesnt even look like theres a piston in it

  • they come smaller than that !

  • Plumber.... This week I will take my Hi-Lux to the local emissions and have the thing tested. I will show you the results.....

  • About your comment on the smoke greenpower...... There is no smoke, and when you hit passing gear there is no smoke.... The toyota Dealer told me they where told by toyata this year....They won't announce it. you got that right... no one would buy NOW and that is what they want... SELL NOW

  • I have business in Panama and last week I bought a brand new 2008 Toyota Hi-Lux Diesel, 4x4 pickup, with automatic transmission and drove it 4,000 miles to Arizona... It took 7 days and driving through a river in El Salvador, but it is here and what a great machine... It is easy to see why GM and Ford don't want it here. I get better that 35 mpg. and what reactions I get even with the local Toyota dealers.... If you want one I can tell you how..... Email me... LeGrande

  • That is what I'm talking talking about. How can a vehicle that gets 35 mpg have higher emissions than the vehicles we have that get 28 mpg. Esplain that. How much did it cost you to buy it and get it here Le Grande

  • I guess it's not because of emissions but because smoke, these diesel engines needs a very scheduled maintenance, a dirty air filter may cause lots of smoke and underpower, so i guess they are afraid because of that.

  • Seem really weak though doesn't it. You Americans can't buy this cause you don't take care of your cars good enough. Saw what you said to legrande about parts. Are the tech manuals proprietary to the nation of sale?

  • I guess they aren't, but i'm sure Toyota from USA won't take care at all.

  • I read some posts on IH8MUD,com that said sourcing the parts wasn't a problem through Toyota. Just that the motor was unavailable to US market. Are they talking out of hand?Yathink.

  • mmm.interesting, I'm sure there's not a spare at all in USA for the 2008 hilux, since it's made in thailand and body work is completely different from the tacoma, maybe for earlier hilux models would be some parts but not for this one. But I guess shipping parts from latin america can't be such a big deal.

  • that would fit perfect in my 4runner

  • WIsh they'd ship us the HILUX the US and take the TURDRAs back. Our import laws suck

    Everything great NOT ALLOWED

  • the hilux is pretty much the same thing as the tacoma not tundra. if u want a hilux so bad g get an old tacoma and buy a toyota diesel off of ebay.

  • Tacomas don't have full floating solid axles or diesels. The old mini trucks maybe but only up to '85. Comeon man you know better.

  • what yes they do have full floating solid rear axles. u can buy a diesel frome ebay or and jdm website that fits nissan toyota and mitsubishi.

  • Not front axles. Please stop it. You understand my point. Why should I have to piece meal the pick up that I want. And thousands of other people want. They make the cottonpicking things for every other country why not mine. Thats all I'm saying. Toyota would certainly sell the trucks why are they not imported or even built in their factories here. They have become overly engineered and fat. IFS is weak and the Tundra is a turd. I've said this in other posts. Stop turning trucks into cars.

  • oh i thought u meant just rear live axle. naa i don't agree with u toyota is the only company to keep all there suvs and trucks truck based. 4runner tundra seqiuoa. but i guess that what u think and the reason why we don't have disels over here is because emmision. too strict over here. other wise we will have diesel tacomas

  • I agree they are very truck based but the IFS? Pleasecomeon. Landcruiser is the only FFS axle left. And, probably because its a U.N. spec. And, as far as emmissions go I don't buy it. Unless they are lying the trucks w/deisel get 35mpg and if its that then why has Mercedes even pre Chrysler and "The Peoples Car" VW produce imported diesels? So whats up? Further if they are so trucktrue then why is it everytime some weakness is exposes or an entire system is shown inferior its mod time?

  • i guess u win but u know what if u really want a truck that fits all your needs an pleasure build one

  • Ohh I agree with you. No manufacturer will ever produce what truck people "want" If they did I would buy ONE and keep IT but then they couldn't sell me another one. So they keep doling out DIFFERENT stuff and sell their new idea. It is fun to work on them but when you start to do stuff like welding and fabrication and such especially to the frame or axles you really aren't done till you have it stress relieved. Time + money get out of hand. I'd love to build I lack time and money.

  • I read here on youtube and on ih8mud that the new V8 twin turbo diesel IS going to be imported and availabe in the Tundra and the Landcruiser 200 and I suppose the Sequoia. Launch is sopposed to be 2010. Keep yer fingers crossed. Its a beast. Real birf breaker I bet. Can't wait to see what the tuners do to it.

  • I can go up the street and buy a dang Cummins if I want. I want to be able to buy it built. If I wanted to do all that work then I would go into the truck manufacturing business. And it sounds great but I'm to busy plumbing.

  • No so.... If you want a hi-lux get one... I bought my 2008 last week in Panama, and drove it 4000 miles to arizona.... I have it here, and it is super

  • I guess you may have some problems with spare parts, because that hilux was made in thailand (you can see it in the metal batch at the left side of the engine compartment), in that case you must have to import parts directly from thailand or anywere in latin america. If you need some technical info i have plenty of it, just tell me.

  • You got that right..... But, I love my 2008 diesel hi-lux I bought last week in Panama and drive it every day here in Arizona... Want some pictures??????

  • yes!!! course!! you have a diesel hilux in USA?? :O :O

  • Thanks green power, but until then I shall drive my hi lux every day and love it... But, I tell you one thing I won't do... is buy the parts in Costa Rica.... That is the most overrated country in Latin America... The , laws are the worst and the faster I can get out of the the better I like it..... So I AIN'T worried about it and neither should you....

  • hahaha!! i'm from costa rica man, but you're right, this country is a disaster, i love it but yes it's a disaster!

  • boreing

  • wish they made or sold a toyota or nissan diesel in the US

  • I got one here.... 2008 Toyota Hi-Lux Diesel, 4x4 with automatic transmission and it is terrific

  • Love the sound of the idling Hilux (and Hiace) engine.

  • and cressida, 4runner, Mark II, soarer, crown,etc... (they are all toyota models with 3L engines) :P

  • Hey nishidayu,

    What is the BOV?

Is CT20 the model number for the turbo charger??

    What year is your Hiace??

Is your Hiace column shift or floor shift?

    Auto or stick shift??

I am dying to have any Hiace in the US, but too bad we do not have any parts for Hiace in the US :-(

  • it's for a few minutes IDIOT

  • Thanks nashidayu for the info.

  • your welcome... its same with my enjine on toyota hiace. but include the turbo CT20.. it is have BOV buil in.. i look like BOV have but not active.. sorry for my poor english.. thanks.
