im 13 i really want to get into downhill racing would you say a hardtail for a beginner is ok or do i need to save like £1000 for a ironhorse or something ive got huge forks on my old saracen xile
Im going PORC this sunday =] shud be awesome, i can allready clear the two tables in the quarry :P i think im gunu try a bit of xc riding there tho as my bike is actually extreme xc lol.
Just a quick question, what sort of speeds are you going at to get jumps that high, and also, would a hard-tail bike be good if i was getting into off road riding?
Well to be honest i really couldn't tell you exactly what speeds we have to ride at to do this sort of stuff as i've never really tried to measure. It all depends on the jump you're doing; the take off size, the gap size (if there is a gap) and the gradient (steepness) combined mean that no jump is ever the same. Jumps like the ones in the video take a lot of practice plus a lot of confidence. If you're thinking of starting then a hard tail is definitely the best type of bike to start on.
Ah great thing im getting a hardtail then =] im buying a saracen zen 2 for £600, worth £800 so im getting a gr8 deal. Im kinda pathetic atm at jumping tho, i just need confidence i spose. Im planning on going to PORC every sunday with my zen when i get it, and going to smaller jumps i got by my house. How long did it take u to get as good as you are now?
cool, never heard of the saracen zen personally but saracen are usually pretty good. yeah it just takes a lot of practice really, i recommend that once you've got your bike, just practice going fast and turning quickly, practice bunnyhopping and maybe try dropping off a few things. Its taken me a long time to get as good as i am, i've been through a fair few bikes on my way there too, and i'm far from the best haha. I'm gunna upload some other jump videos, check them out once they're up.
Awesome =D will check those vids out. What exactly do you mean by going fast do you mean like on straights or down the 4x course for example. I used to ride a hybrid bike so i can allready go pretty fast on str8s, and would it be worth getting lessons? +thanks for ur previous feedback =]
just uploaded one other and got others processing! Erm well i mean trying to carry your speed well through turns mainly, because in jumping speed is so important, if you cant keep your speed in your turns you could have trouble, and nahh theres no need for lessons, just gotta practice really. When you start you'll realise your limits quickly and start small and build to bigger things. That's what i found anyways. And its my pleasure.
Great jumping on those other vids! Is pumping a good technique for keeping speed through corners? Plus could something like the 4x course be good to try keep up speed thru corners? or shud i try the turns in the quarry whilst gradually getting better at the jumps?
Cheers mate! erm well i tend to pump more coz i ride full sus (you can see that in my vids) but i dunno really its all about personal style really. I'd try some of the berms at porc and maybe some downhill tracks
Again, cheers for the info. I went to PORC today (sunday) with my m8. We were only on the hire bikes, but we still managed to go over a fair few jumps. I also tried going down the 4x course, it scared me so much lol. I still cant w8 for my saracen zen 2 tho =]
ah nice one, glad to hear you enjoyed it, even though those hire bikes are absolutely crap! man i hated those things haha well i'm going to go next sunday probably so maybe see you there
If i do end up going next sunday i still wont have my zen which sucks. Those hire bikes are still all right once u get used to them, brakes dont work properly tho lol. Posting a comment here on sat if you are going would be gr8, advice on how to jump would be mint.
oh well if you're used to the hire bikes then that's all good haha yeah if i'm going to go i'll leave a comment on here, or email you if you have an email address? i'm not sure if i'll be able to as i'm very close to GCSEs
I do have e-mal, i never check it tho lol, but if i added u on msn anyway and if im not online on sat, then post a comment here. Ill message u my adress. Im quite close to my year 10 exams too, well next week infact lol, which im not looking fowards to.
Great vid. I love the diving lake jump bit! This is the place near Tunbridge Wells right? Hopefully I will go there soon. Are you allowed to do the lake, or is it just a little feature you foind?
Cheers mate, yeah it's pretty near Tunbridge Wells, in Penshurst. Check out the PORC website, it has directions. And yeah anyone can do the lake jump, you pay to ride at PORC but it works on the basis of you find something you wanna ride, you go ride it! haha
lol, cheers for the info. That'll be great this summer! Have you been to Bedgebury? The jumps there aren't as good, so I want to go to something bigger now. :D Shame that my mum doesn't like watching biking. When I've ben to bedgebury before, there's a walking place too. I might catch the train down some day or something.
haha, yeah bedgebury is pretty easy stuff really, ive been there once, and i only went for the north shore to be honest, the jumps are all a bit easy really. There's a huge range of things to do at PORC for all abilities so yeah its a good idea to try it out.
