    the bassist out of viraemia plays sweeps along with the guitar as well and im pretty sure many more bassists do sweeps in their songs

  • From what I can see, you pivot your thumb on the neck of your bass (I normally position mine on the pickup) & drag your middle finger across all four strings in the same way a guitarist would drag their pick, correct?

  • Dude check out Erlend Caspersen. Just search his name and you'll find his account Bajskung. The sweeping sounds really weak and not close to be clear enough to make it sound good.

  • Grooving on a bass is somewhat easier than guitar, but when you solo with a bass it is way harder, especially slapping stuff, double thumping is really hard, I've only been playing bass for about four months, I'm about to learn some RHCP stuff because flea is a beast bass player.

  • depending on what you want to learn. I'm learning a bunch of ska. They have sick walking basslines. Check out my new vid on ska bands to check out. And some black dhalia murder. For you i'd say ska to work on speed and wrist muscles and i'd also say learn some metal with some breakdowns to get down the 3 finger / 4 finger playing technique.

  • thanks, yeah people dont understand that with guitar, you have closer strings that are thinner, and you only need dexterity and concentration basically on the frett hand, bass has a larger reach, has to push down harder, has to go faster, and have to worry about using both hands seamlessly

  • i try to tell people that but people that are strictly guitarists are too stuck up to lose their dignity to as they say "just a bassist" who is usually kept as a rhythm keep. a bass would be an awesome rhythm instead of a guitar. just do some bas chords. u can make it sound the same. im starting a band with 1 guitar 2 basses and singe. no drums because tis town sucks for drums.

Better yet the Red Hot Chili Peppers? Perfect examples of melodic bass that people besides bassists listen to. Try to open up your evidentially narrow mind and expand your musical horizons.

  • Sure, you got the guy from Primus, and you got Flea, but there are also so many more bassists that are amazing. Dan Briggs for example, or Matt Freeman from Rancid (if you dont know who he is, check out some Rancid and listen for the bass - its sick). Or if your into dream theatre and the like, you've got John Myung - he has a harmonic solo that is fuckin amazing.

  • yeah going up towards the top string, i use my middle nail, and going back i use the middle finger the fleshy part

  • yeah i only sweep with one finger and no you wouldnt need to learn to play with another finger to sweep but i would recommend it anyway
