The Ceres police were overwhelmed because they were simply outgunned and possibly poorly trained. Remember that the LAPD were pretty much useless against the North Hollywood bank robbers. Terrible journalism and fact-checking in this report. Like many people have said, the SKS is not prevalent in the U.S. military. It is not banned in the U.S. only in certain state and cities like CA. The Rijes shooting was not gang related. He just happened to also be a gang member. Any other service men could have done the same thing, and there have been several shootings involving returning NON gang members.
1. The military has admitted that there are gang members in the military, and has been actively pursuing and prosecuting them I just attended a briefing on it from NCIS, saw the data. It is not nearly as prevalent as they make it out to be on the video. Also much of the footage shown comes from the mid nineties to early 2000's, which is obvious if you look at the uniforms. (hint: woodland tri-color)
2. Weapons and gear are much easier to obtain on the streets than they are from a military base. The protocols in place to ensure all weapons are accounted for is pretty stringent. Armory, multiple solid steel doors 6 inches thick, razor wire topped fence, keys controlled by armed personnel after being signed over by logbook, armory keys locked in a safe guarded by armed personnel during off hours. Multiple inventory checks conducted everyday and reported directly to the commanding officer.
3. SKS's are not illegal in the United States, you can buy one at almost any hunting store. They are also not automatic or prevalent in the U.S. Armed Forces. U.S. Armed Forces use them for training familiarization as threat weapons only. Which means certain units may have them, but these are usually division level training teams. The SKS is a Chinese produced rifle, copied by certain U.S. gun manufacturers.
4. Cpl.Garcia was a motor transport mechanic. He did receive mor than the bare minimum in tactical training. His job was to drive and fix trucks, hardly a useful skill for urban gang warfare. Further he was not pieing the corner. He was turkey peeking, and, looked like a dumbass. If he had proper military training he would have posted on the corner, utilizing it for support

As many have already stated, there is a major discrepancy in claiming the SKS is "banned" in the United States. It is not illegal and it is not banned, with exception to California, where most everything is already banned. Additionally, the SKS is a poor assault rifle because it is very heavy and not reliable, but it is adequately accurate and can be converted to full auto. Only third world countries still use the SKS in military operations.
The US military is the most corrupt section of the Federal bureaucracy and we shouldn't be surprised by this given how much public money it takes in every year. The military has no intention of solving this problem, only covering it up and publishing regulations that amount to meaningless words on paper.

The Ceres police were overwhelmed because they were simply outgunned and possibly poorly trained. Remember that the LAPD were pretty much useless against the North Hollywood bank robbers. Those robbers had no military training or gang affiliation, just two amateurs with AK-47s and body armor. Which goes to show that an active duty gang member isn't more of a threat than anyone else who is well armed. Also all sorts of guns are readily available for purpose online and elsewhere.

Terrible journalism and fact-checking in this report. Like many people have said, the SKS is not prevalent in the U.S. military. It is not banned in the U.S. only in certain state and cities like CA. The Rijes shooting was not gang related. He just happened to also be a gang member. Any other service men could have done the same thing, and there have been several shootings involving returning NON gang members.

This entire report is filled with misinformation.
1. The military has admitted that there are gang members in the military, and has been actively pursuing and prosecuting them I just attended a briefing on it from NCIS, saw the data. It is not nearly as prevalent as they make it out to be on the video. Also much of the footage shown comes from the mid nineties to early 2000's, which is obvious if you look at the uniforms. (hint: woodland tri-color)

2. Weapons and gear are much easier to obtain on the streets than they are from a military base. The protocols in place to ensure all weapons are accounted for is pretty stringent. Armory, multiple solid steel doors 6 inches thick, razor wire topped fence, keys controlled by armed personnel after being signed over by logbook, armory keys locked in a safe guarded by armed personnel during off hours. Multiple inventory checks conducted everyday and reported directly to the commanding officer.

3. SKS's are not illegal in the United States, you can buy one at almost any hunting store. They are also not automatic or prevalent in the U.S. Armed Forces. U.S. Armed Forces use them for training familiarization as threat weapons only. Which means certain units may have them, but these are usually division level training teams. The SKS is a Chinese produced rifle, copied by certain U.S. gun manufacturers.

4. Cpl.Garcia was a motor transport mechanic. He did receive mor than the bare minimum in tactical training. His job was to drive and fix trucks, hardly a useful skill for urban gang warfare. As many have already stated, there is a major discrepancy in claiming the SKS is "banned" in the United States. It is not illegal and it is not banned, with exception to California, where most everything is already banned. Additionally, the SKS is a poor assault rifle because it is very heavy and not reliable, but it is adequately accurate and can be converted to full auto. Only third world countries still use the SKS in military operations.

The USA's military can't stand up to any modern, organized military.
Recruit numbers were dropping rapidly before Iraq & Afghanistan then suddenly quotas were oversubscribed. Gang members are comprising a significant number of the military and their allegiances are not with superior officers.
The USA military preys on innocent, defenseless civilians. It's another day in the life of gangsters except better weapons and no punishment for the crimes.
