On their own, Death Cab For Cutie have Pet Shop Boys and Tears For Fears beat hands down in the "faggy music" category.
Can you imagine if they were to get together with that dude from Owl City? I'm confident they could make the faggiest, most navel-gazing music ever recorded.
@henkin Fuck off, Billy Bragg (the man who wrote this song) is one of the most underrated songwriters ever, just because it dosen't have a fucking guitar solo in it doesn't mean it's 'faggy'.
ok, i'll write a review before i hear this cover. billy bragg is distinct and a great song writer. this cover is not a DCFC strong suit, to say the least. it's a powerful poppy song about dysfunctional love drunks. DCFC is more cerebral. they don't have the rangeto cover this song. lets see if i'm right..... yep, seems like it. they might as well do a lady gaga cover, why not.
@GJ3200 well that's kind of the point about a cover. it's not meant to be an exact copy, and it would be weird for DCFC to do the song in the style of Bragg.
okay their not freakin emo posers first off and just because they sing about people they love and emotional things dont make them filfthy emos secondly ben gibbard is prob the straightest man alive... he married zooey deschannel for christs sake
@jaishalattacks I think emo means music that is not just made to dance to, but has meaningful and emotional lyrics. Today, emo is also labeled as following those criteria and also requiring that the music have a degree of indie in it.
The term "emo" is so corrupted these days. People refer to bands as "emo" even when they aren't truly emo. DCFC is a true emo band, Union Station (or whatever) is not.
The whole concept of 'emo' is messed. Are we saying all songs and bands before the likes of Hawthorne Heights, etc weren't emotional? Emotion is inherent in music from its very beginning- blues, punk, jazz, rock, music is emotional. I love typically labelled 'emo' bands- Death Cab (why people call them emo has confused me for years), Thrice (again), Dashboard Confessional but I reject the labelling of music as being exclusively 'emo'.
@connorlangley44 Yes. The song is from Billy Bragg`s 1990 album 'Don`t Try This At Home'. Michael Stipe and Peter Buck performed on the song but I don`t think that it was a co-write.
You could probs find this on the JJJ website for download... maybe? and sorry Lalaeatsbeans, I live in Aus. they are mainstream, it's sorta sad, but Tyronee has a good point, if you truly respect them as musicians than, one shouldn't stop listening to them just because they are played on Nova. Unless, they compromise the integrity of their music to sell records.. than that would be a true disappointment.
This is what actually got me into Billy Bragg. This cover. Haha. I admit I like this version better, but it doesn't mean that Billy's version is terrible. Billy's version ROCKS! It's just that I like the folky-Death Cab element it has here.
O man they took a great song and made it suck ...... they call it "indie" (a marketing term) i want to call it emo though.... still its cool they like Bragg i guess, I should like that and mabye not be such a snob
as in "had he seen it" i don't know maybe he has ... if your reading this billy :D hey! lol my ex asked me if i wanted to go see him in cardiff next month

ben is quite ugly but has a great voice and great guitar skills good for him and actually sounds better than billy bragg...that guy sucks lol no offense to any billy bragg fans just my opinion
wow u must be a billy bragg fan or some twelve year old kid that cares too much what people think i think somebody else needs to grow up and comment on the video not other people
well oddly enough, im not twelve. it just doesnt make much sense to say that a guy sucks, but then say "no offense to any billy bragg fans" haha. if you dont mean any offense, i would just not say it, but whatever. plus to say that billy bragg "sucks" is just false, you can say you dont like him, but not that he sucks. if he sucks he would not have been chosen to put music to woody guthrie songs, an honor in itself; if he sucked he would not have been able to tour with bands like wilco and rem.
you know oddly enough i voted for Barack Obama and i don't like people who end up sounding like a dumbass after writing a comment like the one you wrote earlier! haha grow up don't get ur dick in a twist man
he is playing a Guild. i have no clue on what series or how much it would be. Guild is a company that doesnt change the look or styling of their guitars even with massive price changes.

The original Billy Bragg version of this song is excellent. Unfortunately, Ben Gibbard's whiny, morose delivery sucks any remaining life out of it. As Billy would say, "Fuckin' saddo!"
singers voice mixed with the lyrics, but mostly his voice is 'interesting' and id fuck him(being a man this would be quite a feat to overcome heterosexuality for a singer i enjoy)
such a great cover of a great song!
