I'm meant to be playing this with my band for a talent show, and I started freakin' out cause i couldn't work out how to do it:L

    Thankyou:D

  • I've always struggled with this song, then I found this video and I think i've got it now. Thanks a bunch man! :)

  • thanks man!!! Well done!

  • Can you please tell me what kind of guitar that is?

  • @RetartedFriendsClub It is a Seagull

  • @dibella989 I started guitar like 3 months ago and a few tips I have is to learn the basic cords and practice them. Thn try to learn picking

  • Camp fire song?

  • love this song, but i JUST started and am basically teaching myself, does anybody have any tips? cause i didnt get this at all really

  • Thanks so much it helped me understand this song.

  • nice alvarez, got the same one!

  • This is such a beautiful song by Greenday, Greenday is one of

my favorite bands, and I made a cover of this song, please

check it out if you can. Don't forget to comment and like.

Thank you so much, I truly appreciate it. ^_^

  • I'm getting an acoustic guitar on Thursday and after I learn all the basic stuff I want to learn this song cuz it sounds good on the guitar an I could listen to it for ages

  • OMFG, stop talking about Bieber. Leave him be. If we talk about him, how is it bad for him?

  • like it but it doesnt really show what strings to pluck first

  • On the verse it goes from Em to D then C and G. and then it alternates between Em and Gtwice and then does Em, D, G to get back to the chorus.

  • dude ur help too good thanx a lot!!!

  • only dueshbags play infront of a campfire

  • Billie Joe is a genious. His songs are a little hard for me to play, but I´m a beginer so with the time I´ll do this. Could you please do a tutorial for F.O.D. ? It´s not a famous song, the last track from the Dookie, I love that song and It would be very nice to play this.

  • my tab book shows it a little bit different than t he way ur playin it

  • easy song and my fingers hurt been playing ever day for about 8 hours at a time!!! love the leason tho

  • where are you from? you're gorgeous :) and the accent is super cute, too :)

  • @TheTrueSource

I watched a different video with the pattern you're talking about but in that video you hold down different strings on the fret board so that's why the picking pattern is different.

  • Thanks

  • I Have that guitar

  • One thing how many times do you repeat the four chord sequence of each set of chords? (I know that's kinda confusing but if anyone understands please help):)

  • Your link to the picking pattern is different to your own. The actual picking pattern is 1,4,5,4,3,4 Not 1,3,5,4,3,4.

Might want to alter it. Good lesson though.

  • @TheTrueSource I think, or as well as it did on my moms 35-year-old nylon string guitar, sounds better with 1,3,5,4,3,4 instead of what's original, 1,4,5,4,3,4. Maybe our beloved gally042 wanted everyone to learn to play this picking pattern, and not the other one? One of the biggest conspiracys on YouTube, eh?

  • @laukhovud

Agreed, I now prefer 1,3,5 over what most other tabs show as 1,4,5. Sounds a lot better.

  • lol! 6:55

  • Wow cheers man this really helped me out

  • You are damn fine ;) nice work

  • I'm learning to play this and I had trouble switching from the Cadd9 to D in the very beginning, i find it's easier to just leave you middle finger up and only hold down the B and G string. Billy even does this in the music video

    Hope it helps :D

  • Good lesson! If you're looking for just some examples of finger picking, check out my page. If you're not, then don't.

  • Hey dude if you have the time to do this, Record a lesson on the strumming patterns I'm really new and i can get the Notes but Im really bad at the actual strumming it out all at once so Im kinda stuck on the begging of the song, if you can do the vid message me the link to it ^^

  • Thank god someone teaches the picking, best tutorial I've seen for this song 5/5

  • Thanks man. I can't even remember how long I've been trying to figure out that strumming pattern. I figured out the chord shapes by watching the bullet in a bible footage but the picking has always thrown me for a loop.

  • this helped a lot

  • thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • thanks! you go pretty fast which is good coz i catched it all! yayy

  • Your are awesome. Kudos dude, really, great video.

  • At last someone whos good and explains well...cheers for your time fella..

  • ahh can't figure out this damn strum pattern

  • you are just enough to play all girls in the camp

  • Thank you.

  • thanks sooo much man, but isn't the c supposed to played with themiddle finger on the second fret of the d string?

  • why does it have to be a g with 4 fingers if the 1st fret (high E) is never played?

  • @emsattt It really does not have to be with 4 fingers. If you want to You can leave your pinky off of the high E but it is important to have your ring finger on the B string 3rd frett. Wich is were it will be if you make a 4 finger G chord shape. With a 3 finger g chord shape there is no finger on the A string 3rd frett.

  • I think you are mistaken.I don't think at point of the song it goes from E minor to C

  • hi i don't know how to read the tab in your link sorry.

  • Why is it that the tab in your link is different then your then what you teach?

  • thanks great lesson...it helped me a lot!!

  • I bought my guitar 2 days ago and have been struggeling to learn this song.

I watched a lot of clips here, but once I saw this I finally got it :)

Thank you! You made my day <3

  • What kinda guitar is that it is very crisp???

  • hey bro great video just wondering for the part where u strum is there a certain pattern that goes along? does d d u u d work?

  • thankyou for putting this lesson up, I like the way you explain things :) very helpful - thankyou

  • could you describe your pattern for upstroke vs. downstroke in the picking? I'm having trouble duplicating your pattern. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much. Your manner of teaching makes sense. I love the way you seem to know in which areas a beginner struggles & gets frustrated.:)

  • You pretty much taught me guitar... Thank you soo much! Your website helps a lot and you're a great teacher! Keep it up!

  • umm how come what ur saying and the tabs dont match...

  • tks man :D

  • It does sound as if it will be hard, but its not to bad at all.

  • THANK YOU!!!! that was sooo helpful! :)

  • this was rly helpful. thank you very much

  • great lesson... thankyou mate

  • dude you are soooo patient... wish you were my boyfriend XD

  • The verse isn't Em-C-D-G....it's Em-D-C-G

  • Thanks,

I can only get one chord without looking. It finally came in a song where after picking the melody, the ended with a G chord and one day, my hand found it.

I can do the picking pattern. One just needs to wait a long time for me to get through the intro. Great during a class with a group. I spent our first session just singing.

I may just be able to do this strum. I had one strum pattern down for a song and then we had to change chords.

  • wait how do u pick the em?

  • as good as lessons u give these chordsdont go right with the song execpt the g c d other than that it dosent sound right

  • dang, i'll be needing this :P

  • wow that c chord tripped me up- instead of ring finger on first fret its pointer finger, but i got it at last.

honestly other than that- this has been the most clarified video guitar lesson i've ever come across, thanks SO much!

  • trying to learn this and the tabs you linked dont match up with what your saying in the video its just a little confusing.

  • Omg, this is so helpful! I'm currently learning this song but I could never get the strumming right! This is such a big help! XD

  • Awesome lesson, thanks a lot.

  • thank you so much!! I only started guitar this year but can manage the strumming. Now I am just trying to co ordinate this with singing

  • thanks once again u teach me all the songs i know. thanks alot man.

  • I'm very new w/ guitar and I was wondering if you can explain the picking on Em on, plz? Is it the same as G? So for the verse everything is the same but we add int he em? Thanks.

  • Thanks for the lesson I learned it from you about 9 months ago when I first started playing guitar since I've played it 3 times on stage with a local band its the only song I'll play out yet but the people singin along and everyone smilin its a rush and a great motivater to learn more thanks man

  • thanks you!!!!!!!!!!

  • really enjoy the way you teach, but i am a beginer, maybe you could add to your video the struming pattern in a chart like, maybe I am asking a lot.

  • you played em, c,g,d, but isn't it em, d,c,g?

of course yours sounds better, but when you sing you see it^^

but great job, now i can pick it;)

and your guitar has a really nice sound;)

    greets from germany;)

  • I thought the verse is e minor, then D then C Minor7 and then G. Apparently not...

  • Awesome video easy to udersrand

Learned it right after watching :) it would be easier to follow if you use a consistant referance to the strings because you'd say "first string up" and then "first and second string from you"

  • your guitar has a really nice sound.

    good job

  • sweet now i can add this song to my list lol

  • Kinda, harsh, but I agree with the sentiment. 1,3,5,4,3,4 oughta be 1, 4,5,4,3,4, I think.

  • Your absolutely amazing, i tried it first go, and i just about did it! Cheers! :D

  • how do i do an Em!!

  • you know the letters at the side.. does the E at the top mean the thick string? or the thin string? which way round is it

  • E is the top and bottom string, the E next to the A string is the thickest one

  • !!! It's scary just how well I understood this video. Whenever I see a guitar tutorial, I usually just give up and figure it out by myself as best as I can, but your video just made a little light bulb pop up at the top of my head.

And the picking actually sounds right on my guitar. Thank you. :)

(all x1) Em, G, Em, G, Em, D, then the verse

  • Thanks. This tut helped me loads! Another vid I watched on this didn't show how to do the arpeggio bit.

  • thanks for the message, glad to help! Please dont forget to check out my website freeandeasyguitar com for lots more lessons, take care

  • Awesome lesson! This song can be played several different ways .. I always use Cad9 in this, i never play C major. I also think it makes switching from chords easier (cause C gives me nightmares when needing to switch on a fast measure.) :P G G Cad9 D x2 Em D Cad9 G x 2 Em G x 2 Em D G (is how i play the verses) and the Outro is the same as the verse ending but slower Em G x2 Em D G Also X = Mute O = open like the other person said :)
  • Cad9 is X-2-3-O-3-3 if i recall correctly
