Damn GL was so good back then !!! I gotta say I love Jerry verdorn on one life to live he's very good looking guy but he looks so yummy in that towel I was so distracted by his hot body lol!!!!
Holly couldn't really want Blake to suffer Roger's rage, having gotten the worst of it so brutally herself. But she didn't mind standing back as Blake paid dearly for her betrayal either. Funny, these clips don't go into Blake's original motivation too much. She thought Holly destroyed her ties to the Spauldings and wanted to get revenge by stealing Ross.
@Oakdalian Holly's hurt and jealousy were fueling her right then, but ITA that she usually tried to shield her daughter from Roger's rage. By these scenes, Blake had fallen in love with Ross (and vice versa) so I think her original motives didn't mean anything to her anymore. Blake no longer wanted to hurt her mother and just be with Ross, but Bloss could have helped their cause with Holly if they didn't act totally innocent around her.
Wow. These are powerhouse performances. THIS is what soaps are supposed to be about- complex characters, love, and family. And it's all character driven; that is such a lost concept now.
The mafia bs was over the top for me. This is when GL was GL. May Ellen Wheeler carry the knowledge that she destroyed this show with her for the rest of her life.
This scene was wow...I didn't get to watch this because my mom's VCR broke...but watching it now makes me long for the old days when Bloss was still together. The look on Blake's face when she's telling Roger and then Roger's face as it dawns on him what she's saying.
When he slapped her, I was like "OMG". Ross was fuming at that.
All of the emotions and everything of this scene reminds me of some moments with my own dad. Thanks for posting.
I'm not sure if my comment went through...just wanted to say the acting in these clips is AMAZING, it's like watching Broadway actors with Zaslow and Ver Dorn! *I do love Hunt Block/Ben but I agree Bloss belonged together, so no offense taken by me and none meant with my little BW shrine page! The family dynamic with Blake and her parents was so powerful; you can see how torn she was wanting to please Roger and yet her love for Ross was strong. Thanks SO much for sharing these. It means a lot!
This shows that great writing and acting can make dysfunctional families fun! LOL Viewers always seem to want nice, happy characters and families. But I'd rather watch good character studies instead of all plot.
I admit I got turned off BW right away because IMO tptb totally dumbed down Ross & Blake and ignored what they meant to each other to build up Ben. Blake had just gotten Ross back after the whole Kevin thing. There was no way she was willing to risk that for a sleaze like Ben.
LOL No anxieties for this Blossie now, since Blake saw the error of her ways. ;-) I was starting to like Ben at the end with Drew and Max.
I also had other anxieties at the time about Ross & India, since Jerry had good chemistry with Mary Kay Adams. Although I didn't really see India as Ross' type.
lol, I hated the development of Drew as Ben's daughter! It went downhill for me when the mafia came to town.
I LOVED Mary Kay Adams! Other than what I've been able to find online, I can't really remember her story, but she had some wickedly funny dialogue with Beverly McKinsey's Alex! The casting on this show was phenomenal. It was like watching Broadway performers rather than actors learning how to act. Such a treat to have these scenes to watch again - THANK YOU!!!! :)
This episode plus their wedding (and this is despite much of my qualm about the way most of the show was written during the later time Megan McTavish was headwriter -- at least McTavish realized that Ross & Blake's love was a stronge one) and how the marriage stayed strong w/ Dinah & even Amanda why I had a hard time believing that Blake would turn to both Rick Bauer & Ben Warren or all the subsequent made up betrayals that occurred (including Ross' w/ Tory Granger).
I too didn't believe that Blake would turn to someone like Ben, who made it clear he was trying to destroy Ross. The writers claimed that Blake was just like her mother & how they were attracted to bad boys, but Roger/Holly weren't that simple, and after all Bloss went thru to that point, I never bought that Blake would be conflicted between Ross & Ben just because Ben tried to seduce her. I felt like Ben was allowed to steamroll Bloss for the plot. Where was smart Blake? Sorry Ben fans. :-)
I chalked the Ben thing up to Blake feeling ignored or something to that point by Ross; Ben on the other hand was showing her the attention that she wanted. I didn't care for Ben and Blake, which is why I found it really funny that TPTB ended up putting Bloss together again (after Anita, India, Ben...).
These scenes were very intense!! Thanks so much for posting!!! I'm obviously a Ben fan but I do think Ross/Blake belonged together. They never let couples on soaps stay together without throwing in an affair somewhere (I mean, Ed and Lillian???). I just adore Hunt Block, whoever they put him with...so no offense in my Ben-shrine meant to Bloss! Back to Bloss, though, these scenes are so good...particularly Michael Zaslow! You're an angel to share, THANK YOU!! :)
These scenes were so intense. Roger's anger was obvious, but seeing the look in Ross' eyes after Blake was slapped, I could easily see him going after Roger. Blake had to push Ross back.

I'm sorry, but I always felt bad for Roger, except for when he raped Holly.

Guiding Light used to be so good. Michael Zaslow was an amazing actor.

I'm sorry it caused anxiety for Blossies, but someone had to make Hunt Block take off his shirt. :)
