The old-style Pride events were very valuable 40 years ago for bringing together LGBT people who had been totally rejected by society - but we are now aiming higher, aiming to be a respected part of society. I know that a lot of young gay people don't go to Pride events and certainly don't bring their parents and straight friends. I'd really like to see more for these people - more from PFLAG & GLSEN etc.
I think as we get more aceptance I think less gay people will feel the need to go to pride events. I think we should understand what pride means. I think part of it is finding ones own aceptence and deciding how you are going to live your life.
