  • I'm getting one tomorrow, pray tell, what ammo works best for you? Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • i was shooting mine and the firing mech.blew out any ideas where to get another one i need the whole firing mech. for it

  • doing a field strip is easy..you first need to dry fire it unloaded of course...i use a old 22 shell so its not actually a dry fire...then pull the mag out....push in the little button on the back of slide....at same time pull slide slowly and lift..MAKE SURE YOU HOLD ON TO THE PEICE YOU PUSHED IN, IT WILL FLY ALL OVER!! when you lift the slide hold on and lift slide until spring on the barrel slides off the slide...bam you got it apart...reasemble backwards! hit me up for help

  • Good video. The slide on my J-22 tends to jam when I go to pull it back. Feels as though the recoil spring is binding. Would polishing the barrel help ? Thanks

  • Good video, very helpful. Are parts available for the J-22 ? I lost the take-down button which goes in the back of the slide. It has been years since I fired my J-22, but I had problems with the slide jamming going rearward.

  • I use 3 in 1 oil.

  • fucking saturday night specials!!!

  • Comment removed

  • In the video next to the firing pin spring you have a small metal ball. My J22 has an orange plastic cylinder that goes at this spot. A recess in the orange piece fits onto the rear of the striker. It protrudes from the rear in the hole in the release to show cocked.

  • Hi, I have a gun like, but I don't have the parts that appear in the minute 3:00 in the top, can I buy or get the pieces apart? how much will it cost?.

  • @armandoanguiano You probably lost them when the spring ejects them out the rear of the gun. I had to spend quite a while finding all the &*(^ little pieces.

  • @sendspamhereyahoocom I lost the take-down button years ago... never did find it.

  • last time i fired this gun the slide blew off the top and i got hit in the face with the recoil spring

  • @scottymcphat This is due to the release not being well finished. Steel wool will do here.

  • I also polished the feed ramp and to help it cycle more smooth i did 600grit wet sand paper the sides of the rails of the gun to make is cycle smooth while i was at it i sanded the barrel and barrel mount i found this to cycle better for my J-22 . I did have to use my dremel tool to improve the extractor notch on the side of the barrel now it ejects 100% no problems. I need cheap extra magazines.. !

  • I have a Bryco Jennings j-22 I call it the " Second generation " because the safty is changed and there is a cut in the side of the barrel for the extractor so far i have tried the cheap 22lr ammo from walmart I can tell you that the cheap ammo will cycle some times... I do know that the Winchestersuper X will cycle 100% so will the CCI 100% regular I currently tried the CCI stinger and i can tell you it works wonders in my J-22

  • WHAT AMMO DO YOU RECOMMEND

  • @calaverasantrax105 I load mine with 22 LR Hollow points. I use it as a Summer carry piece, so HPs for Max Expansion.

  • @PaddyTheYankBastard

Have you actually tested them for expansion?

  • @Migs4000 Ive shot each into a bucket of water and like the way the HPs fragment, is a better way of putting it. It's like a shrapnel bomb gut buster. I know it's a super scientific and all.

  • @PaddyTheYankBastard

Are you using the CCI Quik-shoks? That's the only bullet I know that will fragment from a pistol.

Winchester makes a .22lr bullet that fragments and sends a lead chunk down for penetration.

  • @Migs4000 I don't have any idea what make these are. Just a bunch of rounds in an old butter container. No marks on them at all. I'll try to make a video about them at some point.

  • @PaddyTheYankBastard

Do they fragment into three pieces?

  • The one I have is not 'cocking' the hammer back. Each time I rack the slide, the gun will not arm. What would you recommend?

  • Theres a couple of causes for that. One is the recoil spring is binding and not letting the slide come back the whole way. Another would be that the sear is either worn down or the spring that pushes it up is worn or missing. The last thing i can think of that could cause it would be the lip of the striker where the sear catches is worn down. Take it apart and give it a good cleaning and check the parts for wear.

  • @KJOSCOT Do you have the safety on?

  • @KJOSCOT Are you giving it a Strong Pull? I found I was being a little sissy when pulling the slide back and not setting the pin/spring.

  • @KJOSCOT Thanks for the info, I had one of these and was always frustrated with it. I did what you suggested, ans it works great now. Thanks for the tip!

  • I've got a really old J-22 which by some miracle works perfectly fine in terms of reliability. My only complaint is that it has too strong a trigger pull. I'll have to give that sear thing a try.

  • You shouldn't cut the recoil spring. Many of them are pretty weak w age anyway. I would reccomend buying a new recoil spring and checking your slide and frame for drag. Some of the pins that hold components in the frame can drift out slightly and create resistance. Use a punch and push them back in. You want the slide to ride smoothly. Mine will cycle Remington subsonics consistently but hiccoughs sometimes w the Anguilla low power rounds.

  • hey if i cut a little bit of the spring would that help exract the round since some rounds arnt strong enough to pull back the slide

  • these guns are pieces of shit i bought mine and it came apart on me wen i pulled the slide back and the little back peace went flying across the room i took it into the gunshop because the son of a bitch came apart on me and i couldnt put it back together so i took it in and the guy at the gunshop told me that he couldnt work on it for me that the only thing he could do was tell me how to put it back together these damn things are dangerous and you could get killed shooting

  • Excellent and helpful. I was researching this very same issue and came across your video. My neighbor has one of these and I invited him to the range with me yesterday and he was trying to shoot but kept having ejection issues. I cleaned his gun the best I could without field stripping it(because I didnt know how)and it would fire about 2 or 3 times then it would happen again. My rabge has a little onsite gunsmith shop so we asked his advice and he gave us several brands to try. CCI worked great

  • can you please make a video of you shooting it

  • I do have double feed issues and i also have eject issues when firing

  • hey i have a Jennings model 38 .32cal...and my magazine clip went bad im wondering if you know if there is any place i can buy another magazine for it.???

  • i used a needle file to mod for the ejector i took out just enough metal to get a positive ejector contact i would never do a cut out mod like in this video to dangerous for me you may never have a case blow out but y chance it other than the full cut out good vid i used to think my j-22 was junk after deburring n hand polishing 15 minutes of making a small dig out for the ejector an stretching the ejector spring n cutting 3 coils off the sear spring i would feel confident carrying the j-22

  • I get tired of hearing people rag out Jennings .. I've had mine since my grandfather gave it to me in 1990 .. ive had 1 problem over the year a feed issue and that was due to a defective magazine

  • It bent the extractor, not the ejector. I've ordered a new barrel and extractor. Does anyone know exactly how the barrel comes out?

  • Theres a pin below the barrel when you have the slide off, Push it out w a punch and use a set of soft jaw pliers and pull the barrel forward until it comes out.

  • Do Not Try This!I like the video. Using steel wool to deburr is a great idea! After I deburred and cleaned my J22 I only had one fail to eject. But, Do Not File Thru or Put a Hole In The Chamber!!! I just shot mine after I modified it. I used Winchester 22 Long Rifle bulk ammo, and blew a hole in the side on all three rounds, which also bent the ejector and did something to the ejector spring. I hope to be able to replace the parts. Very disappointed at this point!

  • Be careful if you do open up the chamber relief for the extractor. You only want to remove a small amount of metal. As for blowing casings, its big box, cheap ammo, its going to shoot dirty if it shoots at all and i will cause more malfunctions and wear on your firearm. The casings are cheaply made and are prone to catastrophic failure, especially the Remmington bulk.

  • great video

    i need a little help

my firing pin seems to be hitting the guns metal and barely hitting the shell

this has caused an indent in the chamber and a 22 bullet can no longer fit inside

should i take a drill to it and shave of the bump?

  • This is a common problem, the metal of the barrel is cheap porous and soft, the striker is actually a harder material and will cause those dents. This was a major flaw in design since you have to dry fire the weapon in order to take it apart. You can try a small round jewlers file to remove the burr, but more than likely youll have weak strikes due to the increased rim gap in the future causing failure to fires. Eventually (or sooner) you may need to just replace the barrel.

  • have u ever had a problem with the safety on the gun. i have heard of the safety getting stuck on fire and not being able to be moved

  • The late model safetys are of a horrible design and the hole for the detent on the fire position is actually larger than the detent ball. Meaning alot of times its harder than hell to put the safety back on from the fire position. Its not common for it to not be possible without use of a screwdriver.

  • Thanks for this video! I bought 2 J-22's at the same time, one was new-in-box,($80) and the other was used.($50) I always wondered why the chamber on the used one was cut differently, and why it never jammed. Now I know. Someone already modified mine like you did to yours! The new one jams about once every 6 rounds. Easy to clear jams, just re-rack the slide, but still enough to make me not trust it. Now I know what to do!

  • 3 of these guns i like this little pistol i will take one them and try this to see if it helps i have done the filing on the frame so the extractor can get a hold of the casing a long time ago and it does works it don't take munch filing to get thanks for the video man now u can find parts for these things on the net to

  • my j22 wont dry fire it acts like it isn cocking

  • I've had a couple J-22's. They're not all that bad. I've replaced some parts with better (custom made trigger bar, custom barrel lathed down off a ruger mk2) If you get a good one, or tune up a bad one they're fine. I had one save my life as a backup gun and have been nuts about them ever since. I paid $70 for my last one, $40 more in bits and parts, and I have a tiny gun that's reiable and accurate. Next I'm gonna convert one to 17 aquila.

  • just use CCI mini mags dude, this gun isnt that bad you just cant use junk ammo in it. alot of .22 pistols are the same way.

  • These things just suck! I shot about 5 clips worth of ammo and every pull jammed the gun. Took it back several times. Gunsmith solution; spray it with WD-40 before firing.

  • i own a jennings j-22 it isnt that bad of a gun even though the slide flew off and hit me in the face and i lost the spring. where would i be able to get a spring at or would i have to get a gunsmith to make me one?

  • @tt300zxkid you can buy replacement parts from jimenezarmsinc parts are all the same and you can download the parts list as well in pdf. only parts that may be different are going to be the safety, older J22's had a sliding safety, newer ones have a rotary safety. You can also get alot of great info on these by seaching for the bryco-jennings forum

  • @tt300zxkid gunbroker is a great source of parts.

  • hey, great video, I picked up a j-22 a week ago that would become my mother's "Granny" gun (was $70 and she had never fired ANY gun before, so this would be the "cheapest" way to see if she liked it. Before taking it to the range, I gave it a simple going over....what a huge mistake. After discovering it had an almost 15lb trigger pull (poor mom using 2 hands just to pull the trigger, and after countless ftf and fte's was almost ready to toss it. Your vid and the jennings forum saved a gun.

  • I also experimented with a new dry lube RZ-50, that I've been using on my Beretta 96, seems to be working great!!! I'm sure someone will prob tell me im crazy for using it, I just hope they will tell me why if they do. It repels oil, dust and dirt, prevents corrosion...i guess time will tell, but i put about 400 rounds through my 96 a week, with no wear issues yet. Also, a nice wad of Never-dull works great for cleaning and polishing any of the small, tight areas on the j-22's slide.

  • i bought one for nostalgia's sake since it's the gun i learned to shoot with. other than a few failure to ejects it works pretty good & is very accurate considering the barrel length. i'll hafta give the CCI's a try & see if they help

  • Thanks for the video. My Jennings has been plagued by jamming no matter the ammunition I used. I'm going to strip it down and follow the advice about deburring and smoothing the moving parts. The accuracy of this pistol is horrible, but I guess your average mugger is closer than five feet away and at that distance even the Jennings J-22 can't miss. At least I hope it can't miss.

  • use cci mini mag ammo and it doesn't jam..and keep it clean also..peace.

  • I just purchased a J22 and somthing was missing from the safety mechanism. As best I can tell, it is the safety ball, but having never seen another J22, I'lm not sure. My question is, is that small stainless ball near the remainder of your parts the safety ball, or am I mistaken.

  • Good info. Thanks

  • I collect pot metal guns. I have a J22 just like yours, it needs help, but I'm doing a lot of your stuff to fluff and buff it. Also, I just won a Lorcin 25 and I own about a half dozen pot metal guns like Raven, Davis 380, Phoenix HP, FIE titan, etc. Good info video.

  • heey i have j-22 but same times it gets jammed is that because of the ammo or the pistol

  • my friend was given one of these guns, and I was trying to get it to work better - this video was helpful. my old jennings 9mm had a lot of these problems too. thanks for the video.

  • Hey My 25 wont feed. what do you think i could do to fix that?

  • Hey.. I'm having problems with mine. It won't feed and I can't figure out why. Nothing seems to be broke on it. Any advice?

  • Don't complain that a gun under 100 bucks isn't fucking top notch.lol you get what you pay for

  • How are you gunna diss the jennings ?? its a great gun dude i have had no problems with mine .. of course its not a garbage j22 model ..

  • Perhaps your illiterate, or perhaps you didn't watch the video. It's clearly tagged as, and shows a J22. Which like you just said is garbage. And Jennings, overall, as a firearms manufacturer isn't known for its high quality or reliability for any of its firearms.

  • All the models suffer from the same design flaws and substandard manufacturing and materials. One reason you may experience fewer malfunctions in the larger models is that they fire centerfire cartridges, which have a much more positive ignition system over rimfire cartridges. Or perhaps you own one of the few Jennings that was made from good raw materials and has all parts made to nominal specifications, which is rare, especially for Jennings.

  • @Evo8demon Wait, were some Jennings made with better raw materials?!

I've never been unhappy with my J-22, but I will take a look at it to see if I need to do any of these mods.

  • @Evo8demon these guns are not junk

  • hey i have a j-22 and I need to figure out how to disassemble the clip to replace the spring i was wondering if you would do a video on that I'd really appreciate it

  • I believe the magazine baseplate is stamped into place after assembly. If it is able to come off, I imagine you would need to take some pliers, grab the front protrusion and wiggle and pull it towards and out the front of the magazine. As for putting it back together, you'll probably have to wiggle it back in then peen the 4 retaining pieces of metal back in. A small center punch should do the job. (I recommend brass.)

  • @blade5054 Some j-22's have a magazine that can be disassembled, some don't.

  • thanks for the video did this to mine now it works great.i was going to junk it now i enjoy shooting it.thanks for the most usefull video on youtube.

  • I own a J22 and sometimes ill cock it and when I go to fire it you can hear the firing pin it the round but the round doesnt go off and when you examine the round you can see the firing pin hit it but not hard enough to fire it, do you know why that happens?

  • The most likely problem is the striker spring. The spring that actually forces the striker into the round when the sear is tripped.(There is no hammer / Firing pin in this weapon.) I believe numrich gun parts online store has them for sale cheap. If it is not the spring then most likely the striker itself is worn and should be replaced. Replacing both at once should save you shipping costs and frustration.

  • how much do u think a duce duce would cost in new york?

  • have you tried a stiffer extractor spring?

    it does make a difference

  • how strong is a j22?

    can it really do damage?

  • Its a .22lr. So no its not the most powerful round, especially when fired from a 2" barrel. Yet in the same token I guarantee if your hit with it you'll know it. .22lr is responsible for more deaths than any other round. (Most die in hospitals from secondary infections.

  • thanks just wondering, cuz the one i have has been trimed like yours. guess thats common to

  • you didnt pawn that gun did you? im sure there common but i just bought a clone of yours.

  • No sir, still have it. You are correct in the fact that they made a good many of these tiny pistols. They're getting harder to come by in PA, this gun has made it on to our dealers "Do not buy" list, so no gun shop will take them in on trade. Now the only place around here to get one is private seller or a gun show.

  • I am glad that it went well for you. What makes it even better to shoot is the cci mini mags. Arround here they're down to about 7 bucks for 100 rounds. which isn't that much more than the bulk pack garbage that dosn't work in anything.

  • I have done all that you suggested, I am lucky and have a dental lab, Slowly did all of it, Barrel Chamber notch and extractor hook.. I cant belive its the same gun, Thank you, My peice of crap JA22 is now my back up, Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its not that difficult. just slightly shape it so that the hook is slightly sharper and has a rearward angle so it looks a little more like a hook (exaggeration) "7 " in stead of an "L". (Imagine both long parts of the 7 and L are lined up). Its common sense when you look at it, just remember remove metal slowly, its alot easier to take out a little more than it is to put metal back in... If you do make any mistakes or have a worn out J22, "Numrich Gun parts" website has every replacement part.

  • Is there a Pic, Closeup of the filed extractor hook. Please.

  • Hello, Could I see a close up of the filed extractor, I did the sandpaper and steel wool treatment and it went great, The feed issues are gone, If there is a way to get a close up please.

  • so someone else said they did this to their J.A. 22, i am wondering, from either the video creator or jujitsujoe, would there be any specific differences i would need to note between a j/ja 22 compared to a J.A. 25? i had a bryco j22 in the past. it seems that the internals are based on the same frame and principles as the j/ja 22, are they not? please let me know whether they are similar or not.

  • To be honest Im not certain about the .25, I do not own one and have never stripped one down. I would imagine that they are similar, and in any case the trick I used on this weapon in pretty much a universal fix for rimfires. I believe that the .25 is a center-fire rimless cartridge so I'm not sure if it would help. A detail strip and a good cleaning never hurts though.

  • Hi, excellent video. My J22 has no serious extraction or explusion issues. However, (it does it with both mags) I can fastfire 6 rounds, remove the mag, reload cartridges, and when I try to fire, I have some 4 o 5 misfires in a row (I see a light strike in the brass) Then I would try another 6 rounds in the same mag and may be fire them without problems. I cannot relate the problem to mags or even ammo. What do you think? Thanks a lot

  • I believe your asking about the slide safety detentioner. Small silver ball BB looking piece?

  • what is that ball piece for.

  • I would remove and examine the extractor, be careful its spring loaded, it sounds damaged. If it is I would recommend replacing it. If you still have the problem with extraction then I would suggest notching the barrel like I did in the video.

  • i also have one and love it but lately i been having problemswith it.the etracter seems to not gram the spent casing and it aslo missfire on me twice when i cocked it back and let the slide go.i examed it and the fireing pin was still cocked then looked at the bullet and saw the extracter was what made the bullet discharge.can any one help thank you.

  • Buy a good 22lr chamber brush, not bore brush, preferably copper, or brass, and some hoppes #9 solvent and scrub the bejesus out of the chamber.(Scrub the whole gun while your at it,) If that dosnt work get some polishing compound and a tiny stone hone for your dremmel tool and open up the chamber, go in small increments, you never wanna hog metal out on a firearm, its easier to take it off slowly than have to buy a new part.

  • Im not sure if the triggers would swap. I imagine they would, but it would only be worth it if you got the trigger cheap enough. Thanks for the comment.

  • hey. my 22 have that problem but i think my barrel is too tight. the bullet doesnt wanna go in. any tips?

  • Hey, Nice video. I have the JA-22 and have done the fluff and buff stuff on it and it shoots super nice. It was neat to see some of the differences of the two. I wonder if I could switch out the ja-22's plastic trigger with one of the older metal ones from the J-22?

  • Excellent video. I have the same model of J22. Check out my channel. Mine isn't working perfect, but I have videos of it shooting 36 grain bulk ammo with decent reliability.

  • Great tips, Excellent Vid

    2 thumbs up :O)

  • Thank you very much. Id like to save some of these guns from the junk yard.

  • Most excellent~ I'm going to take your advice. Send me a video response and I'll add it to mine. Thanks for the video.

  • Im not sure how to, i tried setting it as a response to your page. I shot it some more this afternoon and I would recomend a lighter oil than mobile 1, too thick for the tiny parts, and .22 shoots so dirty that the thick oil is only good for 150 rds or so.
