Is This a Normal PS3 Slim Disc Drive Noise??

The clicking and ticking and chattering if the disc drive is nothing but the data being processed. Some games process data live off if the disc while the game is being played others process it once per "load" of an area or map or fight or mission and then only read minor data off of the disc that doesn't spin the disc and move the lens as much as the games processing data live all the time those are the rather "massive" games.

when i play MW3 it doesnt make the sound and when i play madden 12 and im simulating it doesnt but when i play a game it starts making 2 sounds 1 is like a cracking sound and the 2 sounds like a computer like clicking sound

Man, it is just a begining of a nightmare.My Slim PS3 160 GB have already ramdomly reading issues with movies,BD,games and CDs.this is how mine starts nad is getting worst.I don't know if it is the HDD or the Disc reader.It's annoying.

Same here with MW3! I'm worried my PS3 will burn itself out. I've heard roomers that MW3 will overwork your PS3's blue ray and eventually kill it.

its not normal i have it for myself and games like GTA IV and battlefield 3 that are games that require the system to put some effort in running the game dont run that good because the disc drive has a problem and it reads the disc way slower and this causes for things like texture popping longer loading and etc.

@eljohn141 Thats normal, the newer ps3 slims don't have the blue led, eject/power lights and the green wireless light. The older slims have these lights. I don't know why Sony removed these...

Everyone listen to the guy below me. He words it perfectly!! No joke, it means that the disc is fairly big CAPACITY wise. Does not mean nothing bad nor does it mean that your ps3 will die at all! Promise.

Hey guys this is perfectly normal it happens on some discs dew to the capacity ect. You should dust the ps3 every week and/or vacume the air vents. It gets on my nerves aswell and also if you blow into the back air vents will help a little bit. Place it on a hollow or spongy object and that should quieten the noise.

hey random have you accidently hit the power surge while the ps3 was still on? you know the power where everything is plug in and theres a switch where you switch and everything plugged on it will go off. just curious cuz it might be the cause of the noisy sound.

@justin2griffin try moving the xbox as it is loading a disc then you would hav your frst scratched cd, but i would not know if xbox is less noise as i hav the old one and the slim ps3 witch dont make noise unless you use the self clean prosses thing

Hey RandomKickAssness, THIS IS COMPLETELY Normal, I have tested this with three PS3's(I don't own them) normally Blu-Ray drives read data from the disc constantly because it has to catch every incoming data from the disc, so please don't worry, no need to send it back to the store. Hope this helps.

I have a 160GB model here and i always heared this sounds. Try to play CoD MW2... the reader sounds like a inkjet printer =). I never had read problems or loads problems here, so I think this is normal. Regards!
