Also, refried beans are (I use pinto beans) beans that have been cooked, drained, mashed a bit, and fried in a pan(that's how I make mine). NEVER use baked beans for nachos! I suppose nachos are tex-mex, as most mexican dishes don't use a lot of cheese.
The salsa would be homemade or bottled. I prefer mine homemade and fresh. Hope this helps!

I made this last night for 5 people including myself. I used your recipe, but instead of doing layers i just made two lots of single layer nachos. It was fantastic the best nachos I have ever had in my life. My guests said that themselves they loved it.
The reason i didnt do the multi layers is that I thought the chips on the lower layer would become soggy with the meat and the cheese on top. The amount of food this makes would be ideal for 10 adults. half fed 5.

Canned refried beans are nasty. Cumin is better off bought inexpensively as whole-seed and powdered fresh and fragrant using a coffee grinder.
