Rat food isn't good for rats. Corn isn't good for rats but it is usually the first ingredient. Sunflower seeds are the next worst. Sunflowerseeds are high in fat and rats usually pick them out. It is much better to feed rats dog food. It contains no sunflower seeds and the rat can't be picky. There is ground corn but it is used to hold the pellets together. Those salads are a waste of food. It goes bad easily because rats are slow eaters. And too much fruit can cause watery stools

@jadeslpsfamily Rat food IS good for them. It depends on the food. SEED MIXES are horrible for them, but a good lab block is great. Oxbow, Mazuri and Harlen are wonderful foods. Dog food isn't a good choice unless you are doing Suebee's mix. Dog food has too much protein in it for rats. Vegetables and fruits are needed daily. Rats aren't slow eaters, mine eat up as much as they can as fast as they can. Veggies and fruits are an important part of their diet.

@amira1295 thats a myth. floors on martins cages are safe because of the tiny spacing so feet don't get caught, but it is recommended to get the powder coated option when u order. rats get bumble foot from dirty solid floors where pee builds up, solid floors need to be wiped down a could times a day or get covered with fleece. wire floors that could cause foot injuries are one with spacing that's too big or with sharp edges, you could cover the wire floors with fleece

they do need stuff to grind their teeth on i suggest wood sticks, a wooden edible house (change every so often of course) and feeding them a pellet like food will also cut down their teeth as well :) Hope this helped!
