Keeping the picture of the dalai lama or showing respect to him in public is considered a separatist act carrying years behind bars. Fleeing Tibet for a better future is now met with bullets from AK47 or long term imprisonment. The standard of living of the Tibetans are far poorer than the Chinese immig.

Fleeing Tibet for a better future is now met with bullets from AK47 or long term imprisonment. The standard of living of the Tibetans are far poorer than the Chinese immig.

illegal occupation?? since 13th century, Tibet is a province of China. Till the world war I/II, when English occupied Tibet, it even didn't claim Tibet as a part of England. Tibet never ever claim herself as an independant country. Instead 1952 DLLM signed an agreement with Beijing, saying that Tibet is a part of China and he is the political head of tibet. Go to Tibet, visit the musea's yourself.

Thanks Conneda, but your statement does not educate or clarify. It is absurd to imagine that people walk around the globe with complete understandings of every culture. It is possible to recognize what fundamental human rights everyone has under any government. And that unfortunately comes with a level of education and understanding of democracy. Under the Chinese government, considering how controlled their propaganda, I am sure that the topics of 'liberty and democracy' are very limited.

I do not support most of the policies of most governments, so don't corner me by polarizing the issue. China vs. the west, etc. These are times in which a global recognition of human rights and the protection of the environment are imperative and the nationalistic, divisive chauvinism that is standard with aggressor governments needs to be dealt with head on. China has the opportunity to enter a global stage and lead; they have the power to do it without endangering others and the environment.
