  • after all English is one of the most if not THE most spoken language in the world

  • God takes drum lessons from Tomas......

  • Wow, his english is good.. surprisingly as he's swede

  • I will have to quote myself because people still go on about a false statement that has been thumbed up for some reason:

"I've seen more Swedes talking horrible English than those perfectly fluent at it. "omg Haake is Swedish so all of us are fluent in English!11" "

  • @rololoo I spent 2 months in Stockholm and everyone there had one of the most impressive english i've ever heard. Stockholm might be an exception but I really don't think so. The Swedes are really good at english.

  • Humble dude.

  • When you know he's Swedish, you can hear the accent, but if you don't, you could easily think he was American.

  • @MrMike0113 It's hardly noticeable though, which is what surprises me. If you listen to Mikael Akerfeldt, for example, the accent is really obvious.

  • Wow, I know a lot of sweden is fluent in english but DAMN he is REALLY good, I mean, if you ran into him and didn't know who he was you would think he was from america.

  • I really dont like metal that much, but meshuggah is great. Its more about their technic acutally, its more math than music. really cool.

  • Tomas Haake is a Demi-God.

  • @ebingen Most people from Norway and Sweden have accents very close to what you would find in the US.

  • @StreetxDSM so if I go to Norway I won't have a problem with the language? just talk English?

  • @akudal964 it would help to learn the language but yeah you could get away with it

  • @StreetxDSM hmm, now that's cool...

  • Oh wow he's fluent in English? Cool.

  • Why wouldn't his english be good?? He is fucking Tomas Haake and from SWEDEN!

  • my english so sucks

  • He made the right decision with the drums.

  • Haake drummed along to ABBA as a kid..... who would've ever guessed?! LOL!

  • lol, InTEEgral

  • this dude has a better american accent than me and i was born here lol

  • Tomas Haake is the best \m/

  • svensk med perfekt amerikansk dialekt.. wtf? XD

  • He looks a lot like brent hinds in this video hahahaha

  • If you showed this video to someone who doesn't know him, they wouldn't know he's Swedish.

  • Swedish drummers are really good I could name a few...

  • ..Why are people surprised his English is good? in Sweden pretty much 95% of the population are fluent in English.

  • @Dungarth Yeah, but that doesn't mean that they don't have extremely thick accents. The only thing that's mildly surprising is his relative lack of an accent.

  • @Dungarth Although most of us have retarded accents ;) And he writes better lyrics than most native speakers can ever dream of.

  • @Dungarth that 5% include Amon Amarth lol.

  • @Dungarth especially when you travel around half of the world on your tours:D

  • I train my english skills listening to Tomas

  • @Riven1989 lol same here xD

  • He's unreal...

  • Where's Part 2 .....

  • he talk better english then the guy who do the interview LOL

  • God he talks great english for being swedish!

  • Gotta love his Jedi look.

  • wow...his english is surprisingly great!

  • @dirtboy188 Yeah, he sounds like a yank.

  • @dirtboy188 I know, it's great. But it's not surprisingly, he is a norseman! ^_^

In fact, I find that many norsemen (except our politiicians) speak better english than englishmen or americans! O.o

And norseman = Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland.

  • @Andy97009814 are you kidding me? people from Finland can hardly speak any english at all. Ive worked there for several years, I would know.

  • @antibulletdodger101 Ok, sorry. I do not have any experience whit finnish, but Norwegians and Swedish do (except our politicians, and Petter Solberg (It's not the fart that kills, it's the smell - fart=speed, smell=expltion)).

  • @Andy97009814 better english than englishmen?now that ill have to see to believe lol

  • @dirtboy188 Yeah and he also writes the lyrics for every Meshuggah song. I speak fluent English and his lyrics are miles more beautiful than anything I've ever written.

  • @dirtboy188 Yea man I can't even hear his accent. Only a few times.

  • @dirtboy188 he´s from sweden. most people here speak fluent english

  • @antibulletdodger101 Yeah but the accent is usually awful

  • @GuitarsOfArp I thought the idea was to make yourself understod when you speak.

  • @dirtboy188

Swedes are clever enough to know when you belong to a country of about nine and a half million, you better learn the most common first world language if you want to get by.

In fifty years, people will most likley be watching westerners speak on you tube and commenting how good they speak Mandarin or Spanish..

  • @9fifty5

I've seen more Swedes talking horrible English than those perfectly fluent at it.

"HE'S SWEDISH SO ALL SWEDES ARE THAT GOOD HERP DERP"

  • @9fifty5 *How well.

  • @9fifty5 Nah man, not in fifty years, no chance. It's going to take longer than that for us to watch as much Chinese or Spanish TV as we watch American TV today (especially since Chinese TV is so different from ours!) , which is the main reason we are good at English. Same thing with games.

Plus, English is a relatively easy language, unlike those you mentioned.

  • @dirtboy188 he writes all the lyrics so when you read them you understand how amazingly wide his vocabulary is :)

  • ABBA inspired this insanity? xD

  • WESC hoodie ftw

  • i expected an accent... But his english is perfect xD

  • Comment removed

  • @Clike666ness He does have an accent, dipshit. An American one, incase you haven't noticed. xP

  • @purple1ris

*sigh* Do you have to resort to namekalling? Really? I mean swedish accent.

  • Interesting hearing Tomas talk about Rush, although not surprising as Peart is a living legend.

Actually, I'd love to see a Meshuggah'd up cover of YYZ as a bonus track somewhere; they could rip the shit outta' that tune.

  • He's humble and smart

  • its obi wan kenobe

  • Whole shit honestly if i never knew Haake was from sweden id say he was from the states. Kudos on the English

  • I wish that all Swedes would not give a flip flopping fudge about their mates English. Question: Can the dude you're talking to understand you? If yes: Good game. Do whatever you're doing at that moment.

  • lol I was sort of expecting a heavy Swedish accent. I guess not hah

  • this guys drumming and the way he does it make me think going to the gym is a total waste of time;by far one of the expert drummers around here

Meshuggah's "cosmic" appeal they induce into metal ascend the genre to a higher level giving future artists newer roots and influences to rely on

    \m/

  • 2 people must be gaga fans

  • ....amazing drummer....

  • can someone please tell me how to pronounce Haake?

  • @D3MONxOFLiFE Hawk-eh...sort of

  • Comment removed

  • @D3MONxOFLiFE : I´m sw3di5h and I don´t have a clue!

Maybe hawk-eeh. So I did have a clue. If I'm wrong, I'll blame the whiskey.

  • His english is very awesome, swedish people usually have a special accent. Some more, some less, but Haake does not have it at all

  • Great drummer!!!Incredible feeling!!!!!

  • i'd just hide in my closet and beat XD

    hahaha

  • lol i did the same thing with the cookie jars, except i used pots and pans...they dont break as easily

  • @CORNP00 he used twigs, or chopsticks.

  • i agree with dimaanddima i'm a metal vocalist into heavy metal but really can do anything accept for screaching ... everyone just says you should go into classical music and make money in weddings ... I HATE THOSE PEOPLE ,JUST DIE ... metal is harder and more intense training then fucken FIGARO MUSIC

  • he´s seriously fluent i english

  • no wonder he writes all their lyrics...

  • I'm so glad he came out of the closet.

  • @Metallikakka

    wtf are you on about?!?!

  • @evilchimpmunk566 hes probably kidding cus he said he listened to abba

  • hahah... thank god for abba

  • he hid in the closset...lol!

  • I will never understand why some scandinavians speak english with an american accent.

  • @LemonZeppelin the first thing a scandinavian wants to get rid off is the homo-accent we get as soon as we speak english. british accents doesnt come as natural to us as the american. due to alot of reasons..

  • @MrMollytov, much because we dont get as much british programs, our telly is really full of "americanese" in various forms. i'd think that has something to do with our natural accent, even if our language-base differs a lot.

  • @MrMollytov I love my finnish accent.

  • @Dunisnane finnish accents arent as ghey as swedish..

  • @MrMollytov go fuck yourself cockmcsucker

  • @MrMollytov What does ghey mean? Finns are just a bunch of alcoholics with racial prejudices who lives in the bush with trolls and shit. Go fuck yourself.

  • @kukenbajs jag vet, men svensk brytning är fortfarande GHEY.

  • hahah a WeSc hoodie? Dat's gangsta gangsta.

  • @CamerOneiric hell yeah lol

  • Do what you want cause a pirate is free!

Tomas sure looks like a pirate, doesn't he? xD

  • I swear , people dont realise how educated metal musicians are.

all those fag scene kids and stupid parents like to rip on these guys calling them stupid uneducated people who bang on drums and just yell onstage

    fuck them

Metal is as technical as music gets

    Educate people in metal

    \m/

  • @DimaandDima You win!

  • @DimaandDima i have to agree with you, people would say that if you listen to metal you actually wana kill your self the next minute, but they still lack something called taste... I'm not saying they lack taste, i'm saying they don't know what it is... It's because each person have a different taste. Thumbs up for DimaandDima

  • @DimaandDima THATS WHAT I BEEN SAYING

  • @DimaandDima But some are. It's usually not a good idea to generalize. There are incredibly educated metal musicians, but there are stupid people too. I think there are highly intelligent musicians in pretty much every genre of music. There probably are some very intelligent Emo or Hip Hop artist. I like music because it sounds good or because of the feeling or meaning it conveys or because it's powerful and passionate; not because of its genre. (That's why I really like Meshuggah)

  • @DimaandDima Depends really on what kind of metal..

These guys are not really playing metal. They're playing experimental prog jazz. But it really is metal per say.. They're not schooled metal tho. They're schooled in jazz. Atleast Fredrik is anyway

  • @jagjaghuh

    Meshuggah plays jazz... *giggle*

  • @MrFlue The drums are heavily influenced by jazz drums. try listening to the drums only and you will recognise the drum patterns from jazz.

  • @jagjaghuh

Well, if we presume that polyrythm = jazz, then okay, but really, i have no intention of letting jazz take credit for that.

  • @MrFlue def not. But they're used by jazz and has been used by jazz for manu years.

  • @jagjaghuh

Polyrythm has been used by classical musicians for centuries.. Does that make Meshuggah to a classical inspired band?

  • @MrFlue Do you listen to jazz?

  • @jagjaghuh

Occasionally, but that's besides the point, i just don't see how this is jazz.. -,- it's metal with polyrythm, done?

  • @MrFlue You just can't say that it's just polo...

Argh. Go listen to jazz drums and compare please. You can see the same kind of drumming in Morgan Ågren.

  • @jagjaghuh

I did many times, and i really can't see your point, it's 2 very distinct methods of playing drums..

  • @MrFlue hey dude please dont think im stupid but i have never played any instrument, i always hear haake does polyrythm drummer meaning it different and saying some like he does 4/4 for a drummer what does that mean? does it means hes really different then other drummers?

  • @kudurrumaqlu

Well, he always plays in 4/4, like if you listen to his cymbals etc. he's always repeating 4 beats.. But on top of that, he does alot of other stuff with the other drums that doesn't "fit in" the same way :p

  • @kudurrumaqlu

you can't put it really like "different" it's just verry hard to do rythms like 6/8, 12/8, 13/12, 13/8. most drummers play in 4/4 bars. Haake can do al the pollyrythmical rythms one after an other and eventually come out in 4/4 bars again. I say that is amazing

  • @DimaandDima

Alot of metal is the classical music of today.

Not all metal is "intelligent" some of it is uneducated bullshit.

  • Comment removed

  • @DimaandDima Exactly!, screamo gives metal a bad name!, hardcore is metals retarted lil brother, Emo is well...well look at it!!!...emo does not help anyone!.

  • @DimaandDima fuck yea!

  • @DimaandDima You're forgetting Jazz, but good try.

  • true that. manny metal artist can play almost any thing. other mucisians i other typs of music cant even biggin to understand metal. why is that? Metal is as technical as music gets :)

  • true that. DimaandDima :) manny metal artist can play almost any thing. other mucisians i other typs of music can´t even biggin to understand metal. why is that? Metal is as technical as music gets :) sorry my english is shit X)

  • @DimaandDima I disagree, friend. Jazz is way more technical than "metal". And you cannot forget Classical and Romantic music either.. Each of these genres have their foot prints within metal as well.. Oh and I grew up on Metal and am a metal head at heart, but I eventually expanded outwards to the finer music the world has to offer, especially when it comes to technicality. But to each their own..

  • @DimaandDima i have never got the vibes of ppl judging me of being a metalhead, supose it was more like that on the 80's - 90's :o

  • @DimaandDima Some metal is trash. but as far as Meshuggah goes. Nothing compares

  • @DimaandDima Most of the metal heads who comment on youtube could probably be considered legally retarded.

  • What do you think metal is based on?, they said, "motzart was the first metal head".

  • Well yeah, im just assuming you have listend to pop and now your just getting to realise the sheer complexity that metal is.

  • @Aheadstix85 metal is complex? Oh, really? I want you to listen modern classical music or jazz. Math doesn't make it complex.

  • Unbelievable...ABBA created Tomas Haake

  • @AceOnParade A lot of metal musicins back in the day actually liked ABBA (even though they would never admit it...).

  • nice guy ;)

  • Coolest person on Earth: Mr. Tomas Haake

  • the band is fucking awsome , made me really look into metal's creativity

  • @guitar6029 Are you serious??, you though pop was creative and technical i suppose, do you honestly think Lady gaga, writes her own songs, or her label?, sme goes for that little try hard Beiber, and his try hard friend kanye west, whos as bigger wanker as we all secretly think.

  • @Aheadstix85 ??? what ? when did i say anything about pop, i was just saying that Messhugah is different from other metal bands , i never mentioned pop , you must have misunderstood

  • He sounds like a voice actor lol.

  • seems like a pretty cool, laid back guy ^^

  • Totally agree with Tomas about the importance of being musically broad. Really helps with songwriting and just being generally better as a musician :)

  • lolol his childhood sounds exactly like me, i tap on everything and drive everyone crazy. But the insane hertas that he does are just epic

  • COOKIE JAR METAL!!!

    XD

  • SERIOULSY! he has the most PERFECT english! wow... for being swedish of course

  • thats because most americans are german or scandinavian

  • is he from Germany?

  • @socalkevinz Sweden.

  • haha this guy listens to rush too!!! im not the only metalhead who loves them!! :D

  • I had a dream in which Haake was having fun with me, yeah, remains only a dream I'm afraid.

  • @rololoo as in, having his way with you? lmao

  • @winterSTU

    eh, no?

  • Haake = natural born kickass talent

  • Wow this guy is so incredible. He's better at English than most Americans are, sadly.

  • 2:09 He says "player" kind of like Toki haha.

  • "i was one of those kids, that just... i would beat on everything, like... and anything. like when i was like three or four years old i would hide in the closet and just beat on these old cans and stuff with my hands..." what a sick sick man.

    still love him though :D

  • Swedish and English are very much alike and every swede starts learning english in their 3rd year in school at age 9-10..

  • @godsaveme

but he's especially good, you can tell since he writes basically all the lyrics... if you compare them to the few Jens wrote (which aren't bad at all) you can tell the difference.

  • @godsaveme Really? In England we learn French, the worst possible language for Metal old Me!

  • lol For Examples

  • his accent to me reminds me of someone from Boston

  • Born a drummer, what an awesome guy

  • He beat everything? Oh really..

  • tomas haake is a crazy mother fucker. his drum parts make your legs BLEED!!!

  • theres a swedish dude who works at my gym and i had no idea he wasnt from america for the longest time

  • The way we speak here in scandinavia is like mostly american but with some influences from the british...and that makes like a very clean american accent which is very easy for everyone to understand...i know because iäm the same....only i dont always seem to find the words ^^

  • wow even for a scandinavian, he speaks english very well.

  • Interviewer: so yeah tomas you just totally own and kick so much ass and i like wanted to ask you... could i bow down and worship you for a moment? Tomas: Huh...yeah I guess....:D no seriously he is such a fucking amazing drummer, his english is impeccable too.

  • @o0PrepsirE0o

    So am I ;)

  • @o0PrepsirE0o

    Sweden :)

  • 3 words.....'TOMAS 'FUCKIN' HAAKE'!!!!

  • Thomas Haake, the Obi-Wan of metal drumming 0:05

  • i recently got into metal through a few friends, i never used to like metal or any rock for that matter, not because i didnt "like it" i just didnt know it. but NOW ugghhh mehuggah is so badass and they are so intelligent and awesome at everything they do its insane

  • This interviewer's a tard.

  • i bet at least 90% of the swedish population can speak/comprehend english fairly decent, or almost like americans. Ofc there are always exceptions...

  • he just comes out and says im lazy haha, bleed is not lazy

  • he is not lazy, how dare he! :P

  • For such a machine he's so....human...
