This is still a fantastic video - one of Cameron's best performances. Funny how Labour always leave the economy in a far worse state than they start with...
David Cameron has cut everything that's important to the structure of our society the banks were the ones who left the world in recession not the public at large the banks should take the blame and they should foot the bill !!

NEW LABOUR - RUBBING BRITAIN'S NOSE IN NEO-MARXIST SH*T! (CONCEPT SINGLE 20)
Because if you want your national borders porous (despite we being an island), your paedophiles pampered and your Christmasses banned, then VOTE LABOUR!
Thatcher and Brown allowed deregulation and created the huge mess we are in, however camerons policy on the recession would have been completely wrong. Brown did the right thing and has eased the pain. Brown maybe an awful prat but cameron is the real fool. Hasnt got the experience
@doubts Camerons policies on the recession were spot on. And how can you blame Thatcher for this mess did she sell half our gold at a 20year low. Did she let the FSA regulate the banks or bail out the worthless incompetent banks no. Do you agree that paying people to destroy working cars and in doing so running up a large trade deficit is a good idea? And whos bright idea was it to pay doctors twice as much for working less. Brown couldn't even balance the books during the good years.
I'm sure the Tories will say closer to the general election. New Labour have a nasty habit of taking other parties policies, rinsing them, then claiming they had the policy all alone. New Labour will get no such advance warning this time from any party.
Why should the financial services industry (hedge funds and co) stay in the UK when there in no more business because there is no more industry AND when the country is down due to an economic crisis from which the UK will not recover quickly?
Start fighting these bloody tax havens like Switzerland or Belize (Lord A.)...
It is nice that YOU don't mind paying more tax but unfortunately many other people DO MIND VERY much. And those people are those who influence and pay and "support" politicians.
the conservatives would NEVER EVER have saved any money but they would have cut the taxes and all the profits would have ended up in Lord XYs and billionaire XXXs pockets.
Paying back is no problem if you really get the economy going again.
Just look at those city millionaires and billionaires who support the conservatives.
You do not seriously believe that those people would let the gov save money, do you?
These people want the money to be on their own bank accounts!
Biggest industries in the UK are service and financial services but not industry any more: compared to other nations of similar civilised level.
see wikipedia
Economy of the United Kingdom
GDP by sector :
agriculture (1%) industry (23%) services (76%) (2008 est.)
Thatcher did a very nice job destroying the British industry in favour of a "service economy" which is way more vincible in any crisis - just what is happening now.
Who buys services in a financial crisis? Nobody and as a consequence the service sector vanishes slowly.
Who will get out of a financial crisis quicker? Those who have some industry left or those who don't?
Besides have a look at the German exports. They don't drop as quickly as expected. Seems like some people still need cars and chemicals and pharmaceuticals and electronics and ships and tanks (sadly) and spares...
Ger is more diversified and will probably recover quicker.
Mate, services is stuff like the NHS and Welfare system, both of which are MASSIVE employers in Britain. The thing about these being employers is that people aren't gonna get sacked, because they work for the government, they're still getting paid what they always did, and putting it back into the economy.
People working for industry especially private industry don't have that security. To be fair, because of EU, germs and UK may recover similarly.
Look, our industry is doing just fine. We're still producing cars (Vauxhall, Lotus, Aston Martin just brought out a new sports car actually), we've still got BAE systems producing pretty much everything military and civilians, and VT, which creates Warships, as well as Rolls Royce which powers pretty much every jet aircraft :P
Look, I don't worry about the UK for your sake but for mine ;-) If the UK doesn't get its economic and industrial policies right then the 2nd or 3rd largest country of the EU goes down = not good for the rest of the EU. Countries fail and fall slowly but steadily. 2008 GER agriculture: 1 % industry: 30 % service: 69 % UK agriculture (1%) industry (23%) services (76%) UK industry goes down not doubt. Few years ago the UK hat nearly 27% And I think Cameron might not be a good deal.
I just heard business people on the radio saying the economy is beginning to recover. I was thinking of voting for Cameron, but now it looks as though Gordon Brown knows what he is doing. I think Ill stick with Labour, at least they have experience. It's a bit risky in stormy conditions to put the cabin boy at the wheel.
when the tories get in ,say goodbye to healthcare, for the majority anyway. does nobody know that cameron was a spin doctor before he became party leader.this man is sleazy as fcuk.were all in global siht.and we will always blame the people in charge..the tories promise us better things, but have no fuikcng policies...i grew up with a tory goverment and it was fcnkiug siht...youth training scheme, selling off bt..etc,dont forget stopping free milk for primary schools,i fcuikng hated her for that
this is like a boxing match and brown is KO for sure. it does get quite amusing but what the conservatives have always done throught the recession, is the ability to point hard fact.
Fantastic response from Cameron. It's a shame he has disavowed the Thatcherite past of the party. Self loathing of one's history is not a conservative principle. I tore up my card earlier this week after learning of some shenanigans of rich, elderly Tories. I will be voting for UKIP.
No housing/credit bubble in Germany and Italy. They have had a "lost decade" with zero growth since late 90s. But that is helping to reorganize their economy, letting people save. Unemployment in northern half of Italy and southern/western Germany is still one of the lowest in Europe.
1st the Queen who despite the fact she has a personal fortune estimated at £350,000.000 relies on £30,000,000 worth of tax payers money per annum. in order to upkeep her SIX palaces
Can sell 5 of them in order to lessen the burden on the taxpayers.
Goodwin and all the other crooks must hand over the bonus pension or face prosercution. And all the MP'S expensense's of public money must be returned to the public services

I don't understand why people support Cameron - the UK was, last year, predicted to have the worse recession in europe but both germany and Italy have experienced a dramatically worse recession than us - proof that darlings budget is working. Cameron's "balancing the books" would reduce investment in the uk a huge amount and undoubtedly plunge britain into a horrible recession. Why would you support that?
Germany and Italy GDP fall faster than UK because they are bigger exporters. The same case in Japan (-4.2% from january to march). The economies mostly based on consumption (70% of U.S. GDP) will suffer a lot more at the middle and long term because they are BROKE
To be fair, if the Conservatives were in power they would be fucked just like Labour is now, but I'd much prefer it if they were in, because it doesn't mean paying off a heap of government debt.
We would have the cyclical problems, but the structural problems wouldn't have been there if Clarke had continued as Chancellor because he wouldn't have destroyed the BoE's power to regulate capital to expenditure ratios, and assuming they'd have kept following Clarke's spending plans, we would have a substantial budget surplus. The economy that Major handed over to Bliar and Brown was in excellent and still improving health.
Its the only way they could get elected. Labour had to get elected by pretending not to be Labour!! Problem is, they were the same high tax high spend party as before.
Private school = parents worked their arses off to get there kids the best. We dont live off the state and we CREATE WEALTH in this country. Without private schools and private school education we would be Zimbabwe.
Hopefully you will save and get your kids as well educated as you can!
Jdeenuk, my brother went to public school ... I am 28 but believe me I'm financially equipped to send as many kids as I have through public schools, but on the whole public school kids are pr1cks. Reason being, contrary to working hard to get kids through school, many are inbred generation wealth families still living of the success of their forefathers, and are born into wealth - like our royal family, intelligence slowly whittled down - none of them could achieve much on their own merit
jdeenuk - also, there is a HUGE difference between private school and public school. HUGE. I'm talking public schools like Eton and Harrow, not private schools like Dulwich college, Eltham college etc which are good schools, usually decent kids
why do the rich moan moan moan constantly. 50p rate is not bad when this mess the great free market has caused needs to be sorted out. perhaps the government should have refused to help banks at all . then all your fancy pensions savings and shares would be worthless. you greedy bastards make my blood boil. i hope you all rot in hell
Stellamaris42. Well i do. So the 18 years of Tory government where it was fine, and it suddenly goes wrong now. as i said in my answer, Labour setting up new regulators such as the fsa, which became corrupt and were ignored by the govt has lead to this recession. Labours whole policy ideals always end it economic failure. And the lib dems? as far as i can see, they would rather spend time slagging off people than making policies. Look at any of their leaflets. They will never get in.
Grateful to this government!!! what on earth are you talking about! there a bunch of idiots!!! how on earth can anyone say that! we need the tories to rid us of this bunch of morons and sociopaths.
How have the tories failed in opposition, They have the best leader since Margaret Thatcher, the right policies and the right attitude to Govern. They correctly identified that the whole system has been over regulated. In the 18 years of the last tory government the entire thing worked very well. When labour got in created new institutions like the fsa, which have since failed to control and that is why their is a problem. The regulators didnt do their job, and were ignored by the govt.
Thatcher? Lol. Not even the most colonial of old Tory colonels admits to liking that monster. She presided over the deregulation of banking which has caused this situation and New Labour (wet Tories in disguise) saw no reason to change anything. Equally to blame. The Tories were rubbish and so is New Labour. Time for a real change - LibDems.
totally agree people have narrow vision everytime thatchers name is mentioned. what people fail to realise is policies sown now will be felt by future generations as with the thatcher policies, i remember all the tories saying the 10 years of growth were because of her actions now the great free market has brought the country to its knees its all labours fault . tories failed in opposition by calling for less regulation. flip flop cameron ill never trust nor brown. need new labour leader
What is the difference between the now pontificating David Cameron's Tories and New Labour?Where was he during the years of fictitious bank profits, over inflated house prices, debt fueled consumer binge and most importantly the war on Iraq?Where the hell was he?More of the same if you ask me.Only if Vince Cable's Lib Dems could step up to the plate?Whichever way you look at it we are in big trouble.

If I do vote Tory next time it would only because I don't like that Labour has no aim and have lied a lot recently not because I like the Tories or like they're policies.
skarloey - what does his public school education have to do with it you moron?? David Cameron is about as decen a politician as you get nowadays, a brilliant man, he's a good leader
I'm a grammar school kid, and I share your views on public school kids, I think individually many are nice, en masse they're a bunch of arrogant, c0ck sucking inbred pr1cks whose only achievement in life was winning the womb lottery .... many are very very nice though, and I think Cameron is one of them, and I don't think he's that detatched from the real world to be fair
lets not forget the tories have failed in opposition. this mess is caused by every greedy banker ever home owner pushing up prices. city dealers selling worthless assets. yet the tories were telling us the system was overegulated and calling for less regulation. cameron says what you want to hear. VINCE CABLE is the only politition who was warning of this.
so wat ur saying is dat everyone who has brought a house in da last tem years is to blame for da property bubble and its burst!! cheers mate dat narrowed it dwn!! how u blame the government for all of this when the reason no one can pay their mortgage is because they havent saved enough to manage in bad times!! people are hipocritical and are looking for a scape goat and u just proved it!!
looking for a scape goat i do not understand what you are trying to say exactly. home owners should be very greatful to this government at least intrest rates are under control . people are getting help. i remember the help the tories gave people when intrest rates were 15% there were no tax credits. i dont blame the government i blame the banks lending 6 or 7 times salary fueling the boom well thats stopped house prices have to fall by at least 50%
Oh shut up you public school-educated toff - like the Tories could have done any better. Their solution? Cut public spending dramatically and cut tax for the rich.
Labour always fuck us over. They bankrupted us in the 60's, 70's and they have done it again. The figures are quite staggering and will our children ever forgive us?.
Anyone seriously thinking of voting labour at the next election has to be mentally deficient.
WE CAUSED IT YOU IDIOT - Stop being a product of this blame culture that has developed. If we wern't spending stupid money on being consumers we would of never got into this mess.
whoops I appear to have rattled the cage of an internet nutcase.
Gordon Brown gave the bank of England Independence and repeatedly blocked the FSA from blocking excessive bank lending. On top of this he repeatedly ran annual budget deficits of £40Bn+ in the good times such that we now have nothing and have the largest debt as % GDP of any industrialised nation.
So who is to blame then Mr Flyn - Ronald Fucking Mcdonald!?.
Your still missing the point Buggs - While this was happening, the conservatives were doing (or saying as the case may be) very little on increasing regulation, in fact I remember hearing cries from the Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, to lessen regulation. In my opinion Gorden Brown is the best of a bad bunch and voting the numbskull Tories in (who may I add have done far more to cause this recession through their past deregulation) would show the utter incompetance of the people of Britain.
you are correct brown should go and the sooner the better. moral compass my ass. he was chancellor for 10 years he knew what was coming. still the criminal bankers are to blame but how the hell were they allowed to do this to our country. cameron can kiss my ass though the grass will not be greener better the devil you know. vince cable is the only trustworthy politician and at least lib dems arnt fleesing the second homes system like labour and tories
A lot of politicians were aware imo of what was going to happen. Some people in power aren't stupid, they discuss & plan strategies based around what may happen. The economic system was designed to fail to once again take the money from the masses & give it to the few (private bankers/corporations). To best govern people u keep them poor demoralised & frightened. Succesive governments have seen to this time & time again! He who controls public information controls public opinion!
This is still a fantastic video - one of Cameron's best performances. Funny how Labour always leave the economy in a far worse state than they start with...

Lib-Dems (to break the parliamentary stronghold between Lab & Con);
UK Independance Party (to minimise immigration & fight against European Union); or
British National Party (to preserve British heritage, and culture against religous extremists).
Let's make both labour and conservative parties EXTINCT

-The right to spend time with your newborn child in the first few critical weeks
-The right to have Parental Leave
-The right to be notified of changes at work
- The right to see a cancer specialist in 2 weeks if suspected with cancer
-The right to have free bus travel and TV license when a OAP

Why should the financial services industry (hedge funds and co) stay in the UK when there in no more business because there is no more industry AND when the country is down due to an economic crisis from which the UK will not recover quickly?

It is nice that YOU don't mind paying more tax but unfortunately many other people DO MIND VERY much. And those people are those who influence and pay and "support" politicians.
Watch the videos: David Cameron toff at the top
katinzone 2 years ago
the conservatives would NEVER EVER have saved any money but they would have cut the taxes and all the profits would have ended up in Lord XYs and billionaire XXXs pockets.
Paying back is no problem if you really get the economy going again.
Just look at those city millionaires and billionaires who support the conservatives.
You do not seriously believe that those people would let the gov save money, do you?
These people want the money to be on their own bank accounts!
The money is there!
katinzone 2 years ago
The gov had to spend because they didn't dare to tax the very rich in the city of London.
Cowards.
The German Chancellor herself has bailed out a the Hypo Real Est. bank for 6 times its worth.
The German Gov. has borrowed more than ever and Germany is highly indebted ~ 1,6 TRILLION.
There is hardly any more industry left in GB to invest in. It is all "financial industry" nowadays but those don't produce anything!
THAT is what Thatcher has done to GB.
katinzone 2 years ago
There's plenty of industry.
What do you think makes us like...the 5th richest country in the world.
We have the BEST industry in the world, so stfu.
Alexiomeister 2 years ago
So the UK are not the richest?
Learn from the winners, dude.
Biggest industries in the UK are service and financial services but not industry any more: compared to other nations of similar civilised level.
see wikipedia
Economy of the United Kingdom
GDP by sector :
agriculture (1%) industry (23%) services (76%) (2008 est.)
Thatcher did a very nice job destroying the British industry in favour of a "service economy" which is way more vincible in any crisis - just what is happening now.
katinzone 2 years ago
Ah right, I suppose by winners you mean the US, dude?
Who, by the way, dude, are in 13 trillion dollars of debt. Which is 73% of the GDP. WHich has a 9.4% unemployment rate. (British is 4%)
And if you mean Germany...well...don't be silly.
You're dependent on exports...which drop in times of crisis, so you're just as 'vincible'
And for an island nation of 60 million...I hardly think 5th richest is that bad.
Alexiomeister 2 years ago
Think long-term.
Ger is more diversified and will probably recover quicker.
katinzone 2 years ago
Mate, services is stuff like the NHS and Welfare system, both of which are MASSIVE employers in Britain. The thing about these being employers is that people aren't gonna get sacked, because they work for the government, they're still getting paid what they always did, and putting it back into the economy.
People working for industry especially private industry don't have that security. To be fair, because of EU, germs and UK may recover similarly.
Alexiomeister 2 years ago
How are the NHS and Welfare system people getting paid if there is nobody who EARNS any money in the UK?
See, NHS and Welfare are not productive but more "caretakers". NHS doesn't produce ships nor cars nor mining equipment...
So from what money will the NHS service staff getting paid?
Financial services are hit hard by the crisis and British industry is very small.
UK's economy is far less diversified than other economies and that IS a problem.
(Like England but there are these problems...)
katinzone 2 years ago
Look, our industry is doing just fine. We're still producing cars (Vauxhall, Lotus, Aston Martin just brought out a new sports car actually), we've still got BAE systems producing pretty much everything military and civilians, and VT, which creates Warships, as well as Rolls Royce which powers pretty much every jet aircraft :P
Don't worry about us mate, we're fine. :)

katinzone 2 years ago
Well I used your own source, Wikipedia to look at the US, which is the RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD:
agriculture (0.9%), industry (20.6%),
services (78.5%)

So no, sorry, you're wrong.

TheJimmypw 2 years ago
Germany and Italy GDP fall faster than UK because they are bigger exporters. The same case in Japan (-4.2% from january to march). The economies mostly based on consumption (70% of U.S. GDP) will suffer a lot more at the middle and long term because they are BROKE

To be fair, if the Conservatives were in power they would be fucked just like Labour is now, but I'd much prefer it if they were in, because it doesn't mean paying off a heap of government debt.
AslanRolerz 2 years ago
We would have the cyclical problems, but the structural problems wouldn't have been there if Clarke had continued as Chancellor because he wouldn't have destroyed the BoE's power to regulate capital to expenditure ratios, and assuming they'd have kept following Clarke's spending plans, we would have a substantial budget surplus. The economy that Major handed over to Bliar and Brown was in excellent and still improving health.

The regulators didnt do their job, and were ignored by the govt.
moroseo 2 years ago
Thatcher? Lol. Not even the most colonial of old Tory colonels admits to liking that monster. Your still missing the point Buggs - While this was happening, the conservatives were doing (or saying as the case may be) very little on increasing regulation, in fact I remember hearing cries from the Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, to lessen regulation.
