  • One of the true hip hop legends.

  • Even after all these years of listening to Roots I still find his lyrics mind boggling. Whether we are supposed to take each line at face value or delve deeper I am unsure. But still they never cease to amaze. There is a part of me that really wants to know what the fuck he is talking about though. However at the same time I think that's what makes his music so magical, it's thought provoking and most of the tracks are chillingly beautiful.

  • @atomicbubba Got that on my wall.

  • lol i lol at u clever ppl

  • :D

  • The lyrics are all wrong

  • @TheAnxiousMan Probably because this isn't the album version...not sure what it's from. The backing's almost the same but the vocal track isn't. I think the lyrics above were in the liner notes.

Plus Mr. Smith's not always the easiest to understand unless you're familiar with his dialect

  • Fucking love?/heavens above?- This is true classic, beat simplistic- lryics realistic- 'no pain no gain'- true to the teeth......To the fleet, of musical lurks- get off ur perch and listen, this is about no message, this is about the beat. Blessings of atmosphereic beats, interwined with rhyming feat.

  • I said 333 because i liked it

  • Yeah i think a lot of you are looking way to deep into it or not looking deep enough, he is a dope MC but does not philosophize, is not prophetic and is not rhyming anything to do with spiritual theories. Hes just spitting some observant/preaching kind of lyrics. HEs dope as fuck but i think your confusing the message hes giving. peace and love

  • One of the best flows anywhere. Im not even British, but i know good music.

  • cojonudo

  • Uk hiphop at its best, im a big fan of 90s usa hiphop and all but christ, Uk hiphops alot more deep and easier to relate to in my opinon

  • @MrSeanhinchley Check out Sadistik. He from the usa has some pretty deep music.

  • Need a link to this version of the song so bad it's unreal. :-/

  • "so we dare not stagnate, we elevate"

  • Love this track used to play this on repeat in my portable cd player. Inspiring track

  • Perfect

  • damn.

this version is better then the one i got.

theres a slight difference. and i like it better.

was there a reissue or something?

  • classic albumn.

  • Those lyrics are wrong...it's "intense hunger.." not tents and girth...also..."one time I warned ya...twice you catch cuff" and all the lyrics make total sense but some relate to things that you'd have to know him to understand...

  • right, this is his best I think - "I dance on the thin line of sane and deranged"

    True Skool is also sick

  • Its so true, we can all flutter about that line at certain points in our lives, in our world, in our minds....splendid

  • totally agree , thou my old friend "mc drs" comes a dam close second

  • Roots Manuva is the man, sickest UK's mc fo me, this is classic dopeness! mad props from Poland! 5!

  • ill track

  • most rappers have to be clever " Well as you can see " good ones

  • av look at roots manuva-all things to all men, absolute tune

  • They could somethink wicked with massive attack or the guru

  • I wonder, how many people actually understand what this man is spitting. Some of the meataphours he uses relates to very profound scientific and spiritual theories. This guy has alot of knowledge hidden in his work, take heed, 'the dub is wise''

  • @CrystalKid2012 - he's also a piss head. not hatin', I'm also a piss- head, but i also thin k this is his finest work

  • @CrystalKid2012 he also talks alot of things that only makes sense to him, and might not even make sense at all. Apparently he was also mentally ill, but like my mum says all genius's are a bit crazy.

  • @CrystalKid2012

YEA FUK i wonder the same thing!!! Do ppl get wot he s sayin? and if they dont do they like it anyways? The answere 2 my q is prob yes!!! thats y the fukas so BIG BIG BIG, brik by brik

  • @CrystalKid2012

    that's why it isn't more popular :(

  • @CrystalKid2012

I really would like to understand the lyrics from this album ^^

But I'm french, and I don't perfectly speak or read english -_-'

So.. it take a long time to appreciate this album in all ways...

  • even for fluent english speaking people these lyrics are difficult to understand/comprehend. They are personel and deep to the artist, we may be able to understand the words and empathize to our best ablility, but to wear the shoes of another, is to transcend to a abrstract realm which renders us unable of conveyance to one who seeks the meaning.

  • I find most of his work amazing! I love his work!

  • @CrystalKid2012 .....you´re an idiot..

  • @CrystalKid2012 "meataphours"?

  • @CrystalKid2012 While the lyricism is profound, you sound about bright as a fart in the dark.

  • @CrystalKid2012 faggot

  • I completely agree! He is very very talented

  • @CrystalKid Id probably enjoy it a lot more if, you know, I understood all those profound science/spiritual

theories and crap but, you know, a simple mind like mine,as CrystalKid implied, is probably way too small to appreciate anything beautiful.Too bad for me.

I was wondering if you wouldn't mind, as long as you can spare, to descend from your celestial throne and tell me SPECIFICALLY what very profound spiritual stuff this man talks about and why only educated people like you can enjoy them.

  • @Williams01492 Thanks.

  • @Williams01492

Roots lyric "knowledge and over-standing" comes to mind :)

  • @CrystalKid2012

Roots Manuva didn't mention a single scientific theory in that verse. 61 viewers are idiots who clicked 'like' to that comment because they wanted to seem wise and didn't actually read the damn thing.

  • @Rhylu Yes, but he certainly mentions philosophical theorys.

  • @Rhylu

Bona fide what you hear, 'tis the sound of pain,

    But pain leads to gain so we dare not stagnate;

We elevate to that next state, motion divine.

Glisten like crystal ball and stand tall,

    With this knowledge and overstanding.

The above is the closest thing to a philsophical statement in this track--it's good, but ultimately nothing special. I agree with you, mostly.

  • @CrystalKid2012 i say the dub is wise sometimes in class when someone has a great comment. And I get looked at like like what the fuck!

  • @CrystalKid2012 completely true.

  • @CrystalKid2012 yeeeeaaahhhh kiid man WAS a genious, saw him last year and he can suck my kiss nowadays

  • feeeelin it

  • feelin it rude boysssssssssss

  • why politics when you got the rap master smith on here.

  • safe#

  • So how did the tit for tat tango politics end up here? You commy egg cunt.

  • The problem with politics is that it exists. Look at OTHER animals , we are animals after all no matter how sophisticated we deem ourselves. Other animals don't have all the problems that we have in our life , other animals don't spend their life working for someone else so they can buy the new invention , life is less of a task for them . Live in the moment , don't sell your life for any price.

  • Ain't no blood in my body, it's liquid soul in my vein DOPE

  • This is great.

  • anyone know where i can find the instrumental???

  • roots manuva is so pollitical and he does it so subliminally proper talentedd. jahh blessxx

  • his politics is useless tho.

it's like martin luther king, most of his life he was a black nationalist it was only towards the end of his life that his politics became clear and he realised racism is a product of capitalism and the only way to end it is to end the system. sadly he died before these ideas matured.

  • Racism and inequality is a product of not only capitalism but any hierarchal caste system including Communism

  • hierarchal caste system including Communism? are u off your head?

communism is a classless borderless world, it has never been reached. i think u are using the soviet union as an example of communism which is totally false. stalinism and socialism are very different

  • stalinism = planned nationalised economy controlled by monsterous authoritarian bureaucracy

genuine socialism = planned nationalised economy controlled at every level by workers democracy.

socialism is the transitional period between capitalism and communism

  • under socialism the state still exists as classes still exist. the old capitalist class will try to bring back capitalism and the organised and armed working class will prevent this from happening. under socialism there will be still some elements of the old society. when the capitalist resistance has ended, the need for a state is gone. society will be classless and borderless

  • the banner of society will be 'each give according to attributes and receive according to need'. then we will have reached communism and the human race will be free for the first time. free from the drudgery of labour, free from poverty, free from descrimination, exploitation and wars.

  • racism and inequality are products of class society, one class owning the means of production. the only way to end inequality is to end private ownership of the means of production so it is in thehands of society not a small class. we will utilise the great technology created by capitalism to produce for our needs and no one will strave again

  • Regardless of whether Stalin was chosen or not when Lenin died, Communism wouldnt have worked anyways. The State is put in a very powerful position and it would take a very selfless and truthful human beings in that position to run things, also seeing the fact that the Bolshevik Party was inserted into Russia to collapse the Tzars reign due to his aversion of having a Rothschild Central Bank making his money for him.

  • Capitalism could work, however its never been what it claimed to be with the whole world economy being rigged to the teeth. Communism and Capitalism both have their strong points and weak points, but in the end neither would work because it would require humans to be perfect. As for the Communist Manifesto, it was used as to ramp up the Peasant support of the Bolsheviks and is just Propaganda. Divide and Conquer is the true motto of the enslavers of the world.

  • the communist manifesto accurately explains the development of capitalism and the contradictions inherent in it. it makes predictions 150 yrs ago that are reality now. u don't understand marxism that is your problem

  • under capitalism the state is controlled by a minority (bosses) to suppress the majority (workers. under socialism the state is controlled by the majority to suppress the exploiting minority. what requires the more brutal sophisticated state:? the minority suppressing the majority or majority suppressing the minority? u work it out

  • socialism doesnt require humans to be perfect. it doesnt need perfect ppl, it needs workers democracy, lenins programme was very simple

1 all officials elected and subject to direct recall

2 no official to be paid more than a skilled worker

3 all jobs in runing of state rotated among workers

4 no standing army but the armed ppl

    this programme prevents bureaucracy

  • the proof of his useless politics was when he promoted fair trade as the solution to end poverty at some festival.

  • Where is you mind at? Please, save those comments for those who give a fuck.

  • please don't comment if u don't give a fuck.!

  • You seem angry

  • dunno about subliminal, i think he comes out and raps what he thinks, no tricks. Propa talented agreed.

  • i jus bought 'brand new second hand' but the movements verion on it is different.... still sick but i preffer this version with the scratchin on it... anyone help me?

  • ohh is it cos its live??

  • I've got this on an MP3 called 'movements live at the beeb' if thats any help

I'd guess its a BBC live session although someone else on here says its from something else

  • this song fucking kills me.

  • do y'all realize that this shit is live? most rappers just lip sync at shows. he actually raps over his beats. tell me that's not real hip-hop. if he ever comes back to new orleans i'm buying at least 3 tickets. one for me, myself, and i.

  • lip sync=playback?

  • i slap the bacon out your mouth, dance upon ya sarni

only roots could come up with that :D
