  • Tà sè go hiontach

  • I don't understand a word, and I'm on the wrong side of 60 which could be cause for considerable alarm, but this performance is so full of the vibrance of life and lovely singing that I am rendered speechless in my dotage.

  • Beautiful. It was great to meet you in Nelson NZ at the music school.

  • YOU AND THE BOYS COULD CHARM THE BIRDS FROM THE TREES !!!!!!

  • What a great husky voice !

  • This really is divine. So well done.

  • this is proper irish as it should be based on where she comes from. This is the standard every learner should try for.

  • Gaidhlig, Gaeilge, Tha i math co dhiubh! Choird i rium.

  • She's amazing - they're amazing. The song's amazing. What a brilliant combination! Mo Cheol thu!

  • go han-alainn ar fad- guth iontach o spearbhean

  • I AM A VIRGIN

  • Éist do bhéal nó éistfidh mé duit é a mhac níl faic ar eolas agat, Méiricánaigh!!!! Thats Irish and Gaelic is what the Scottish people speak

  • This tune is the VERY heart of us, the Japanese tribes.

This band MUST come to Japan as the missionary to

CONVERT us from fake music lovers to REAL ones!!...

  • Hey. I have to say as an Irish speaker I would call the language Irish. I work at an Irish centre and we would often call it Irish. Older people call it Gaelic. really Gaelic refers to the language of the Gaels who are now the Irish . But its no biggie i guess as long as people are speaking, it feck the name. I think they make the differentiation in the name so not to confuse it with the Gaelic of Scotland. Has she recorded this song....? Tóg go bog é.

  • @WorshipInTruth, actually many people call the language Irish, for example, my Irish parents. Irish (Gaeilge) is a Goidelic language of the Indo-European language family, originating in Ireland and historically spoken by the Irish people. Irish is now spoken as a first language by a minority of Irish people, as well as being a second language of a larger proportion of the population. check it out, you might learn something.

  • @profmendoza DERRRP, it is GAELIC just like I said, people may actually call it the "Irish language" which I was not aware of, but that would be akin to saying we speak "American" in the U.S.

  • @WorshipInTruth again: no. The official government website of Ireland calls it Irish "English and Irish (Gaelic) are the official languages of the Republic of Ireland. Irish is spoken daily." however, everyone also speaks English. "(look in encyclopedias too, there's often a wealth of information in them - hell, just google it). So pull that bus over to the side of the pretentiousness turnpike for a moment and realize that even if you were right, you're kind of a jerk.

  • @WorshipInTruth ps - I would imagine there are a great many things you are not aware of that are true, so you might not want to rely only on what you with you right now in terms of knowledge. just a thought.

  • @WorshipInTruth Haha maybe you should do some research before calling people 'friggin idiots.' As an Irish person who speaks Irish on a daily basis, I'd like to point out that what you said was incredibly ignorant. Don't act so pretentious when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. The language is called Irish or Gaeilge, never Gaelic. And comparing it to people saying you speak American makes no sense as the US doesn't have a native language while Ireland does. Just saying.

  • It isn't called An Seanduine on the album, it's called "O Dheara ’Sheanduine" like in the chorus.

  • calin go deas nach bh'fuil?

  • @anleathbrogandubh -Seo, sin i.

  • Danke für dieses wunderschöne Lied und die tolle Musik.Bin begeistert.Irish-Underground-Peter+1 by Anam Cara Irish Folk

an bhfeadfa iad a chur anseo dom? bheinn an bhuioch...... go raibh maith agat!

  • hey TG4 -the dubbing is atrocious-doesnt do the fine players justice- amateur dubbing...

Danu are fine musicians coming from a long respected tradition---

  • Gaelic whether irish or scots and welsh remain europes oldest languages(and basque). Therefore europes oldest memories are contained therein. Bígí dílis don ghaeilge . Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.

  • I feel this sort of music because I'm celt

    Blessed BE

  • wow is brea liom an guth ata aici ta si ar fheabhas

  • Must be pointed out that its some very good Bodhran playing. Doesn't over beat it, tempting once all the other instruments kick in. Keeps it soft.

  • @ArRithArLuasLasrach--

No kidding. Have you ever seen him cut loose on other tunes? For my money, he's as good as it gets.

  • @ArRithArLuasLasrach Donnchadh Gough dochreidte mar is gnáth... legend

  • It's like the fella's talking a whole nuther language...

  • @emncaity hes speaking Irish gaelic i think

  • @abominableangel--

Yeah. clearly...I was just kidding. It's a damned hard language to learn if you weren't raised in it, which was kind of the point of the humor (like, man, is this language _really_ "other"). I can speak enough to ask for water, bread, whiskey, or a bathroom, "what are you doing?", and a little cussing, plus the odd phrase here or there.

  • Any chance of posting the whole show ?

  • And we w ould have been from Judah, the royal tribe!

  • I found a word in Hebrew in fact. That word was Gael.

  • Whats astounding gaelicnicu is that if you listen to ancient Irish and Hebrew they sound very very close. They even buried their dead in similar matter. And worshiped on High Hills. There is a theory that we Irish may be desendants of Israelite diaspora

  • @irishoforiel

the germans norse and celts did come from central asia :) all the languages are called indo-european

  • Thanks for posting this video. The young lady and the rest of the band have done a fantastic job! :-)

Speaking as an old granny, the song offers very good advice. ;-)

  • nice song.

  • His name is Páidí Ó Lionáird.

  • I know this singer grew up in The Aran Islands to the west of Ireland and speaks Irish as her native tounge.

  • think she's from corca dhuibhne given her accent. and paidí refers to that place in his intro speech...

  • Does anybody know the name of the guy in the suit who introduces her ? He plays the role of Conor in 'An gra faoi ghlas'.

  • Nope. That would be "na sean daoine"

  • Thanks Nadiamonkey. I stand corrected. kealyc

  • I speak some scottish Gaelic and old man is Bodach, would it be the same for an teanga nan eire the language of Ireland?

  • 'An seandiune', would that not translate as 'the old people' ?

  • There is something very sexy about a good-looking Irish girl who masters gaelic. That does it ... I'm going to Ireland.

  • pretty, young and gaelic speaking... she's got all qualities a girl could dream at :)

  • one of the world's best singers, one of the world's best bands

  • Gaelic is definitly ancient and the fiddler is my cousin

  • Gaelic is ancient and it pre-dates the formation of the galelic speaking nations of ireland Scotland and Mann.

  • Love her voice!

  • What do you mean Gaelige isnt ancient?

  • I love a singer who worships the song rather then using it to draw attention, wearing a song like a pretty dress.

  • I have been listening to Danu for year, She has been a nice addition to the group.

  • Its not an ancient language its alive anyway the guy oshan in the band who plays the fiddle in this band danu is my third cousin and why is everyone so mezmorised in marianne ive met her like five times please don't ddrool you perverts

  • I would marry this woman. No questions asked, just drop everything I'm doing and marry her.

  • As long as she doesn't feed me marrow bones and push me in a bog, I should be okay.

  • she is SO HOT! omg.

  • these videos are so great its awesome hearing this ancient language brought to life!

  • it didn't die - so doesn't need to be 'brought to life again'

  • Im sorry, I didnt mean to say this is a dead language I just meant videos like this share this language with other parts of the world who wouldnt otherwise hear it, it is a lovely language!

  • view my channel for songs in all the celtic languages :)

  • well but to be fair didn't the english try to kill it or something?

  • yeah, tried but it still survived, not as strong but survived all the same esp in remote areas and there are plenty of people learning it and keeping it going.

  • it is such a beautiful language.

  • ... beautiful singer, music and tune. What else would you want?

I just keep clicking that play button over and over...

  • can we get subtitles please?

  • very nice

  • Probably the most compelling rendition of this tune I've ever heard. Muireann's voice is perfect on this. Incredible.

  • Her voice is so pretty.

  • What a great find. Thanks TG4gaeilge for putting this up.

  • This is an amazingly beautiful rendition - her voice is pure and clear. It's enough to motivate me to learn Irish.

  • learn it! There is a lot of material on the net to help you, and you can find a tutor from organizations such as comhaltas and daltai na gaeilge. Irish is a beautiful and rich langauge you will be gald of your efforts

  • well learn it then, JackandViva! i'm learning it myself. we have to bring back this beautiful language; one person at a time. my kid isn't born yet; but i promise that the first words he'll ever hear will be in the Tongue of the Gael

  • @JackandViva To "learn irish"?? You mean gaelic?? Friggin idiots.

  • Oh, I know... but I had a drink with her once in Milwaukee. She is a lovely lady and a talented musician.

  • I'm from Dublin, living in Dubai. This woman is a native Irish speaker. She's amazing. There is something really beautiful about not just her singing, but her very soul that comes out in her singing.
