  • house was music till ghetto house came into the scene then it all went downhill from there - The eurohouse came , remember dj markski? and then our latin house was replaced by this on the radio. I was mixing on 2 gemini1100 turntables when I was 10 years old. I bought them from my cousin for 100 bucks. Used to go to the flea market on division and buy my records for 3 dollars! I built my turntable table from a piece of wood and milk crates! I loved mixing it up!

  • Classico!!!

  • Cant nothin come close to Chicago classics.....

  • considering his broad spectrum of music when mixing, back in '86-'87, ranging from italo disco, house, freestyle to pop and funk, Julian Perez was truly the DJ to listen at that time, not to mention his pretty neat mixing skills, considering all styles that hes going thru in his sets RESPECT!

  • Ah, okay... I found the position of the original mix... Is in the mittle of the song... Yaaay... I love that... I want to recreate some of my lovely mixes of WBMX into one file... If I'm done... I upload it... :-) Hope you will enjoy it... Respect to Hot Mix 5... The best of all I ever heard... They told the stroy of Housemusik and Djing... Love them... :-)

When I ever get the tapes out (if I can ever get to them in my storage unit) it will be a big project figureing out what's what!

  • It's funny how this is what Top 40 music sounds like today (a watered down one obviously). Music hasn't changed all that much, or the mainstream has just caught with the advancements in Dance Music from the last 25 years.

  • Absolutely amazing. 25 years old and as good as (or better) than modern-day rephlex & DMX Krew.

  • ZAYRE'S and VENTURE lol

what up folks tall two six nation 80s and 90s

  • Comment removed

  • This actually sounds more like Freestyle to me than House....

  • Many of the D.J.s on WBMX and WGCI would mix House, Techno, Disco Italo and freestyle in one mix. Generally, if the DJ was hispanic (Julian Perez/Ralphie Rosario) they mixed more latin house and freestlye. Farley and Steve Silk Hurley would spin more soul and black sounding house.

  • "GET ON DOWN AND PARTY" LOL, I remember that phrase. I remember being a lil shorty back in the 80's running around Lake Shore Drive, going to the Shed Aquarium, the Museum of S.I., eating Leon's BBQ (before THEY took over) and shopping with my mom...Hey you guys remember ZAYRE'S and VENTURE...They were the walmarts of their time.

  • Yeah, I remember Zayre on 41st & Ashland.

  • OMG...Zayre's and Venture....classic! The local grocery store in the Harbor was A&P. Main Street was booming. Anyone from the Harbor remember Chicken Unlimited?

  • i wasn't from tha Harbor but from Gary. I do remember A&P where Sterks is at now. Zayre's was on Ridge rd. It seemed like everybody & they moms was a House dj back in tha day

  • 6:25 is Don't stop the Rock by Freestyle.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks guy! The long time that I was looking for this music.

    Appreciate it.

  • 2:39 is Play another song for me. One of my all time favorites.

  • anybody know any names of the trax playing

  • those where the days .why did wbmx stop? i mean we loved it

  • they sold the station. i miss it too.

  • that sucked.that was like a land mark for our times

  • AMAZING.

  • I can't believe the mix I am hearing right now, These are the jams that brings me back and missing Chi Town back in the dayz. Memories I tell ya, when these came out I was waiting when the week was over so WBMX Dance Party can come on and man it was worth the wait for the week to be over with

  • I know, right? You would stay up all friday and saturday night listening to this, I love it!

  • this shit is the bomb, i can remember cruisin in my 85 buick ltd jammin this shit on the northside of chytown.....going down to the rocks with a cooler and some good bud.

  • Hi Guys,

Some people, here, know the name of music's, inside this mix? I'm from Brazil, I like so much classics like this, here, was a great success in our pass.

    Please, help me! :)

    Appreciate it.

  • in hawaii missing the hood lots of memories shout out to all the og latin kings from 26th street.

  • ThanK YOU MUCH for posting. I soooo regret thwrowing out my tape collections of vintage house mixes when I moved out of Chicago early 90's.

  • Gold foundations of "dance" music

  • i love it. not to mention i got a couple shoe boxes still with some of those memorexes, u90s, maxwell, sony...

  • Man man man.....back in the day i was the master of recording all these hits from wbmx and wgci (bmx was still better though.) and i still have all of em except three....this was the shit!!!!! That garbage they try to pass off as house music now is just that GARBAGE!!! that shit should be banned from the airwaves!!

  • I still have these tapes. I used to hit record before I went to bed. The click from the end of the tape would wake me up and I would just flip it over and go back to sleep. Man, back in the day...

  • hahah i used to do tha same thing!! and I too have all my old tapez...talk bout old school!! them were the dayz!!

  • yes, Lord!!!! same here!!! waking up to the tape stopping was like human nature to all of us taping these badass mixes back then.....i can't get out of my head the many trips i used to take to my local neighborhood walgreen's to buy another 2 pack of SONY, TDK, MAXELL, cheap ass TONEMASTER(yellow/black label, gray label) tapes to keep these cuts on permanent record......the good stuff never dies..........

  • Uh huh, still have a Tonemaster with mixes on it. Once I get time, the whole thing is going to mp3's. I'm keeping the tape hiss and all! :-) I feel bad for those who think the stuff they call house now is the real deal. They have NO clue.

  • By now I know everyone was taping this stuff 90 min at a time but wat freaks me out is that even the brand of tapes you have here are EXACTLY the ones I have. IT's weird!!! Are you in my basement? :)

It's funny, I've listened to some of these tracks over 100 times again I expect them to leed into other songs; like Bostich- Yello or Lime's -Angel Eyes. But it throws me when the tracks don't leed into the ones I expect. Thanks for the post.

  • Man Locum, that ain't no lie my friend.

I see those tapes and it brings back soo many fucking good memories. Those Maxell, TDK's & Sony's were scattered all over my room and car. Everybody would always want to dub everybody else's tapes. I can remember before I started mixing that I would sit there with my finger on the pause button to get rid of the station drops. So many great mixes on GCI & BMX in 87.

    PEACE from Chicago,

    RRKS

  • yea this way a great fukin time, ihave a case full of them. any where in chi-town ppl were jus party's, house basement, garage , jus abt any where they could plug in.

  • One of my Uncles owned McGrevy's around this time and we used to roll up there on the weekends. Julian would be in there spinning for an hour, drop the tape off at the station and then roll on to the next club. Was tight! Got to meet all of the big names.

  • ~I got crates of all these old ass tapes...Chicago's Legendary WBMXXXXXXX!~

  • any bad boy bill or mike hitman wilson from 1987?

  • Saw this dude several years ago on NYE. He started his set with ACIEEEED and I danced his whole set.I remember WBMX from way back. We used cut the W out and use the BMX casue we were BMX kids. Did not listen a lot back then because I can not listen to Diva house.
