  • David Gilmour! How come the video says nothing about him? He's only one of the best guitarists who ever lived.

  • it woulda been shaweet if pete best would have played at this gig.

  • el david guilimour todo amargado xDD

  • Just as a note to all those 'Gilmour's just making up the numbers' commenters, remember he started out playing rock and roll for the best part of a decade before he joined Pink Floyd...

  • Mick Green doesn't half play a blinder here. R.I.P Mick, and thanks for making me pick a guitar up in the first place. Oh Yeah, Mr.Gilmour holds his own :-)

  • Imagine being in Liverpool finally for the first time..your on Penny Lane and you walk into a little local shop and pick up the newspaper? And he headlines read "Paul McCartney Announces his Return to The Cavern!" That happened to me! I was in Liverpool because I had lived in London back in the 80's& wouldn't do any touristy stuff as I was a local! My Gf flew me out on a surprise to do all this in 99..on a no cancel RT tix..of which my return date was the day of the gig! So thx fopstra 4this:)

  • @lydiahsk Honey Hush.

  • 2nd track, Blue Gene Bop. Gene Vincent cover! Great. Hadnt heard that one, for yonks.64 3/4 grandad!

  • Ian Paice, one of the greatest rock drummers ever!

  • Just a reminder to all you Gilmour fans ( I am One too) - The Guitar hero in this line-up is Mick Green! This is McCartney and Green territory not Pink Floyd land.

  • Fxxcking fantastic, ty ty ty

  • wow! Gilmour is a proper guitarist.

  • GILMOUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR

  • einfach klasse!!! der zeigt allen wie man gute musik macht. :-))

  • love it ..

  • I was there.

  • @hazelcastle really? good luck!! I live in Argentina and i´m waiting for Paul... Sorry about my English...

  • Gilmour thing was not a good idea.

  • Paul's voice may have changed with age, but his rock voice is always good!

  • This must have brought so amny memories back for him.

  • that must be massively awesome for David Gilmour, The Beatles are probably the main reason why he started playing

  • @snoogans999 I think he was just bored.

  • @randomdave30 he always looks like that

  • @snoogans999 No, I meant, David Gilmour became a musician 'cause he was bored

  • wiiii me gusta mucho esta presentacion, perfect thank you :D i love paul

  • why is the video out of focus ? not to be funny or owt. But it's fair anoying, but hey paul McCartney. Genius !!!!

  • I guess Paul took his own advice and "Got Back to where he once belonged". LOL!

  • Very gooood

  • The way he wrote that song at the beginning... he left solo space for George.. that's a bona-fide George Harrison solo at 2:27 to 3:19. Even though George was still alive then, he must have missed him... ah well.

  • david gilmour!!!!!!!!! hell yeees!

  • I was there saturday 22 march 2010.The place was rocking , write your name on the wall and dig the great live music to lots of beer.Best pound ive ever spent

  • i heard that the cavern isnt there anymore...is this true??

  • @metsman1019 nah its still there on the same site but slightly altered .reopened in the late 80's after being filled in then excavated.the original bricks were refired and the exit and entrance swapped for safety reasons . go to the cavern website it tells you of the history from way back when.and EVERYBODY LISTEN! it was NOT knocked down and rebuilt over the road OK! that is the cavern PUB , opened on the back of the success of the club .rock n roll will never die

  • the original club was demolished in the 70s.

  • i remember in the back of rolling stone magazine there was an ad to where you could buy a brick from the demolished cavern.that was the late 80s.

  • i go there a lot and even though its not excactly the same place i swear i have felt a ghostly presence of george of john in certain parts , as if somehow they are looking on at us still enjoying the place , nothing creepy but i know they are watching us

  • You're lucky! I wish I was able to go there. That is a really sweet thought!

  • Paul is the greatest!

  • Some tight playing here by some real rock heavyweights, just great to see and hear!

  • If you wanted a real beatle experience, you should have gone to the Jacarander or ye crack for a few scoops. Original drinking places of the Beatles and they haven't changed since.

  • I wonder what the Beatles would have thought way back then, if they would have been told a day would come when you would have to listen to a few 60-somethings if you wanted true rock'n roll.

  • my piano teacher at school loves the beatles, mccartney is his least favorate, but he saw this and had trouble admitting to me that he was now a mccartney fan

  • i was there(liverpool) for the match everton-aek athens. and i was for a wile at the cavern club. it was wonderful. i crying because this was a dream from my childrens years.

  • ive got to admit i got a chill down my spine when i first went in

  • Dawn, I think the expression is "hindsight is 20/20". You should have bought you own Business. :-)

  • The Beatles should have bought the Cavern in the 60s... by the way, that's Ian Paice of Deep Purple on the drums.

  • this "Cavern" is not the original of course. It was razed and rebuilt directly across the street. The original space is now a parking lot. Go figure.

  • I started reading this thread wondering if anyone would even know who Mick Green is. I'm glad to see at least a few fans remember him and the Pirates. I wish there was more Pirates on YouTube. In the meantime this show will do.

  • Brilliant. Thanks for making up the numbers Dave G but this is completely this is completely the territory of the fabulous Mick Green. Get Out Of Their Skulls by The Pirates. now!

  • Probably one of the best concerts EVER. Four incredible PRO¨s ripping it off

  • Got this DVD, it is Macca at his best

  • Mick Green, what a guitarist. I enjoyed this show for what it was - a bunch of old players getting together to have a blow, hardly a money making venture or a statement making show. Just having a play because they can.

  • With Gilmour and Paice. Great!

  • Can you imagine back in those days. You just walk inside and drink something but you dont know who this man is. Just a few young boys from Liverpool.

  • I agree completely. It's after watching videos like this that I wish John and George were still alive. That way, the four of them could settle their differences and do some real concerts like they used to. I think Paul thought that by going back to the Cavern he could recapture the essence of those days. But I guess he didn't realize that by adding the cheesy lights and other superfluous Hollywood tricks he diminished the raw naturalness that made those Cavern shows magic.

  • Dave Gilmour and Mick Green session musicians ?? What you want is for a man of 57 (as he was then) to sound like a kid of 19, the same critisism was made of Elvis in his later years - its just not possible. You may be interested to know that I first saw the Beatles at The Cavern in Nov 1961when they were an interval band for a jazz band from Manchester called The Zenith Six. Amongst the numbers they played were, The Sheik of Araby and Red Sails in the Sunset. Hardly rock n roll classics.

  • Didn't recognize gilmour at first but yeah I remember hearing that they were playing together. Still doesn't negate my point. Gilmour is just as guilty then and should have known better.

My original point is: If they had played Sheik of Araby that would have been perfect! I don't want to hear rock&roll classics. The high-ho silver song that they play isn't a classic either! So I don't get your point on that. My point is, he sounds just like this in a stadium, so why even play Cavern?

  • He's playing at The Cavern because he wanted to have some fun on Millenium Eve by going back to his roots, simple as that. Great to hear Mick Green again with his own scratchy guitar playing (look up Johnny Kidd and the Pirates if you've not heard of him, he was brilliant). Just enjoy it for what it is, its not even the original Cavern.

  • you're absolutely right. Yeah, not even the original cavern... BUT, I do think it would have been cool if they would have lost the tech sound guys.... Gotten an old gibson amp, and an old fender deluxe from '57, and maybe some old guitars like an early rick or hofner guitar... ANd just rocked out with an old mic and shitty P.A. system. THAT would have been great.

  • This is the McCartney I love but I agree with you freezazoid, You wanna go back to the Cavern, then REALLY go back. Oh....and turn the newly installed A.C off while your at it.

  • well the real cavern doesn't even exist anymore, but doing a rock set with shitty amps and an okay p.a. system would be pretty sweet. Maybe not having that great musicians behind him would help get a grittier sound too.

  • the real cavern does exist m8 u ever bin there

  • even better... they should have done the show there!! that would have been great.

  • @freezazoid the idea was to play a small more private show- its more personal when its not thousands of people and you can see the performers live not on a screen

  • fuck u self

  • no I have your mom for that.... if you don't get my point and you're getting so pissed off because I want paul to play a rocking set like they used to... then shuv-off and listen to some shitty music already. I love paul... don't like this set. Simple as that.

  • so rude!

  • matthuzilla3, como veo no sabes nada de musica, asi que limitate a opinar.

    gracias.

  • Ive been o the cavern club and this looks way too big to be the cavern club in liverpool :) My question is, where is this?

  • This definately is the Cavern Club. We've played there. They squeezed em in for this gig but it was the real McCoy.

  • Its the back stage in the Cavern Club which they use for bigger evening shows (the door into it is just next to the bar, beside the telephone box!!!)

  • Cavern Club or Cavern Pub?? where was this?

  • He looks great at 57 years, doesn't he?

  • rockeala Macca si tenés ganas...GENIO!

  • who's the man in the keyboards??

  • is that the original Hofner violin bass?

  • Yes, it is.;)

  • No it's not.. This is the updated one Hofner gave him in 1963. The "original" Hofner (Called the Cavern Bass) was stolen in 1969. You can tell the Cavern Bass very easily because the pickups are close together and "Hofner" is written in script on the headstock vertically.

  • i sure hope it is

  • greats rock and rolls

  • Great rock`n roll. Paul and his hofner bass guitar still rocks. And today, the ultimate legend from mtv looks better and younger than at that show. he is a phanomoen! good save john, paul george and ringo.

  • I didn't know Gilmour did this (and more) with McCartney. I just couldn't imagine him playing something like this! Incredible...

  • was this the back room of the cavern?? i think it must be

  • Also David Gilmour. Not sure who's play the solos.

  • Mick Taylor is the fellow playing the lead breaks, he was also in the Rolling Stones for a period.

  • ummm don't you know who David Gilmore(small band Pink Floyd!) is act. on guitar.

  • Yeah, Baby! This is definitely a party!! It is so awesome to see Paul come full circle and getting back to where it all began! Rock on!!!

  • Ian Paice of Deep Purple is the drummer. Paul can rock out with anyone!!!

  • awesome video! I LOVE MACCA!!! ^^

  • yeah!

  • ROCK & ROLL!!!!!

  • What is the name of the first song they play?

  • Honey hush

  • Thats mad that Ive played on that stage...not trying to say Im anything as good as this but still, im happy with sharing a stage wi Macca. : )

  • man i dig that sound

  • who's the guitarist that's not david gilmour on the right???

  • That's Mick Green.

  • David Gilmour is one of the guitarists, yes, on the left of Paul

  • Mick Green, of The Pirates-the best footage from the 70's seems to have gone from youtube at present-he has influenced a lot of guitarists including Pete Townshend and Wilko Johnson

  • yeah I've read about him after Pulsar89's comment;) thanks again, I was just wondering

  • The engine in that Jag was made in Cleveland. Pretty awesome.

  • Quite remarkable!! .... I seem to be addicted to watching this clip - 'Brown eyed handsome man' - What a track!!!! The whole band just creates something so good to listen to!

  • why don´t you guys oversee one of the best drummers of all time? there must be a reason, why all these great musicians join the master.

you can be sure, that Sir Paul only invites the best of the best, and one of them is Mr. Ian Paice on the drums!

  • simply awesome

  • look at all those bald heads!

  • Paul finally spit out the bubblegum...rock-n-roll the way he was supposed to sing it

  • The Beatles AND Floyd.Love them both.

  • yeah! that's music! GREAT PAUL!!!!!! I LOVE YOU

  • wow Sir Paul with Gilmour and Paice!!!

  • Paul McCartney AND David Gilmour? yeah, that's pretty awesome
