  • just as good as s&w but less $.love mine.

  • my ruger blackhawk .357-9mm is a great gun, had it for many years. it is more accurate with 9mm than .38-.357. the 9mm is NOT a wimp round. the nazis did not lose the war because they used a 9mm pistol round, as i've heard some say.

  • Subscribe to Gun Tests magazine. They take no advertising. They are the Consumer Reports of gun magazines - the first thing you'll notice is how the praise of the heavily sponsored Ruger diminishes. They led the recall of Ruger's SA Army/ Blackhawks series to get them to put a transfer bar (or any of many hammer block safeties), something Guns & Ammo wouldn't even take letters on.

  • Whatever this site does to my responses, I never get tired of watching this guy shake the chamber all over the frame while extolling the tight lock-up.

It reminds me of John Cameron Swayze proving the ruggedness of a Timex watch by laying one on the table and hitting it with a hammer.

  • Bizarre reaction to my response. Of course, everything Ruger markets is a good idea, or they wouldn't market it. That's what infallibility means. The pope carries a Ruger.

-let's see what happens to this post.

  • When did S&W have a gun like this ? What was the model ? And were any ever sold to the general public ? How many rounds would it take to cause the problems you claim? I`m sure if this was a bad idea then Ruger never would have released this gun for sale. I have great respect for Ruger and their products. They never would have released it. That's because they're infallible

  • I`ve been reading the comments here and there is some controversy concerning the accuracy of the .357/.38 vs 9MM in this gun. What is your impression about the quality and accuracy of this gun ? The idea of a convertable caliber revolver interests me.

  • fieldstripping this revolver is like loading a preloaded magazine into it like a speedloader

  • can you convert a single action revolver to double action?

  • this not a 9 mm this is more big the 9 mm is more small

  • @chelomunguia This is a 9mm/.357 mag convertable model.

  • single action revolvers are the fastest shooetrs out there when you know what you're doing,if I had a camera I would make a video on how to draw and slam fire all siix shots but i have no camera or gun.

no gun is obsolite, they can still shoot but they might be outdated for war (great for home defennse).

  • @dasdew2 a question- if you don't have the gun, then why should we believe that you know what you're talking about?

  • @MrJegster Because I've spent hours on end studying them.Up to four years learning about guns and never loosing any interest.

I live in the ghetto in Texas people i know include cops, criminals, hunters, veteran, people that have seen shit hit the fan,and so on.

The only reason i don't have one is despite the fact i'm kind, smart and trust worthy and every one else(parents included) around me ones one no one wants me to get one or for me to shoot one

If it was up to me I would of hadAOneALongTimeAgo

  • you cant talk smack about a single i mean come on wild west shooters were insane and thats about all they had.

  • One last knock! S&W pioneered this idea, bur soon discontinued it. The bullet for a .357/.38 is .356, whereas a 9mm is .355. The problem isn't just inaccuracy: it's like bad rings on a piston - the leakage around the projectile scalds the cyl./barrel causing excessive wear that gets worse with increased use. wear

  • My friend is militant in his hatred of Ruger. He put up a poster at a gun range offering 'up to $500.00 for used .357 mag. revolver' with 'Taurus, S&W, Colt, Rossi - all brands considered (sorry, no Rugers!)'. He didn't even want a gun, he just enjoyed heckling all the irate Rugers owners who called him out on preferring a Rossi over a Ruger! I don't go that far, but I notice Gun Tests magazine is the only pub. that dares to criticize Ruger ( they don't accept advertising). Hmmm...

  • Does anyone know what the prices are on this gun?

  • Wont the casings move back after firing...thereby jamming the cylinder? Other convertibles have moon clips for rimless casings.

  • Great gun I bought one a month ago. I have shot almost 100 9mm out of it. shoots them pretty good when the sights are setup right. the shells stick inside the cylinder sometimes. they come out you just have to push hard.

  • Can you shoot 380 in it as well?

  • Just bought one yesterday. Love it!

  • While steering the lock-up, and saying how tight it is, you can see it move and hear it rattle. Ruger enthusiasts have an amazing ability to blind themselves to that brand's shortcomings - like heavy trigger pull (5lbs on a SA revolver!) exorbitant price and horrible accuracy.

  • @caseyjoanz So what's you suggestion for a superior SA revolver that's not an "exorbitant price" and is better than the Ruger? I want to know because I'm in the market for a SA revolver.

BTW, many manufacturers have heavier stock triggers for liability reasons, it's not hard to fix at all.

  • @caseyjoanz Right, reasonably hard. Like, 3.5 - 4.5lbs. And yes, a gunsmith can bring it down from there if you have to have two pounds or less. But out-of-the-box quality is nice. But a 7 lbs SA pull? For safety?

Only Ruger and the French Army (not a joke, I'm serious) use a heavy trigger pull as a safety measure. By the time you've cocked a revolver, you've gone beyond 'What's that?' or even 'Freeze, motherfucker!" - there's only one reason for cocking it. Is inaccuracy safe?

  • can't imagine 9mm is terribly accurate out of this revolver. .357/.38 is 9.1mm and 9x19 is 9.03mm.

  • shouldnt it be able to shoot .380 as well then?

  • @wootfortoot no because the case is shorter than a 9mm so the case would site to far into the cylinder and the firing pin would not hit the primer

  • I have one and I have to say this is a wonderful concept, you can shoot 38spl all the way from wadcutters to +P,9mm is so plentiful and its a nato cartridge its so popular and cheap to shoot, all the way from target to +P 9mm HPs,and of course all the way up the hottest 357 magnums! Perfect Zombie gun!!!

  • How much is one of those revolvers?

  • i was very close to picking up one of these but i decided on the freedom arms model 97 .357 mag. i love it. you should make a video of one.

  • I need to get me one of these incase of a zombie outbreak!

  • @SoLiDJinZo am so down!!!

  • @SoLiDJinZo yes

ive been looking for a 9mm revolver for the zombie apocalypse too

9mms are th most common type of bullet

    and revolvers are very durable

  • @leotheloser SOME revolvers are very durable. Don't go after a Taurus without researching it a lot, but you can get a ruger without looking into it what-so-ever, Same goes for Colt.

By the way, I'll be looking for you during the zombie apocalypse, I have bought a 45 ACP revolver, got my brothers fully automatic M4 (He has a class 2 FFL, so he can buy them now) and some other pistols. I'll come for you when the zombies take over.

  • @Pwnermobile123 yes ive heard about the taurus

with the moon clips and everything sounds like a turn off

also i researched about this gun and its good firing other higher calibers but the 9mms arent too accurate

    and colt?

charter arms might be working on a rimless revolver it kinda looks cool

damn ive been reading to much of max brooks

  • man id keep one of these as a defense weapon hell yeah. btw does the hammer have to be cocked at all to remove the cylinder?

  • how much would a gun like this used cost?

  • @MrFryguy001 200-250 usually.

  • PARDON ME ,

slow to shoot I dont think so.

In a master's hands a single action revolver is the one of the fastest guns

  • How can you tell the difference in cylinders....thanks

  • Nice video...but i have a quick question....How is the accuracy off the 9mm through the 357/38 bore barrel?.....Any help will be deeply appreciated. Thanks

  • I had one of these Ruger Blackhawk.357 Mag/9MM Convertibles in the past and I sold it to buy another gun. I'm sorry I let it go. Makes a terrific survival gun due to the fact it can shoot 3 different calibers. Single action revolvers may not be sexy like a new automatic, or hold 15+ rounds, but they are extremely reliable and this model is a three shooter. I wish I had mine back!

  • @Bigoldjeff1956 What was your impression of the .357/.38 vs 9MM ? There seems to be some controversy concerning this caliber conversion. Some people here think converting a .357/.38 to a 9MM is a bad idea.

  • @quimbyt Anytime you have a multi-caliber gun it is a compromise. .357/38 bullets are .356 diameter. 9mm bullets are .355 diameter. The 9mm will not be as accurate as the .357/38 bullets. That said, I see the purpose of this gun, is versitility. If ammo becomes hard to come by, you have 3 choices. If money is tight, 9mm cost less. I for one would not want to be on the business end of a Ruger Blackhawk loaded with 9mm HP. If accuracy is important shoot .357/38, otherwise 9mm works in a pinch.

  • @Bigoldjeff1956 .001 doesn`t seem that great to me. I would like to see it tested useing a Ransom rest.

  • Do they make a 9mm cylinder for the GP100?

  • @tsion11

Sorry but you would need to replace the ejector star (Not cheap) and find a 9mm cylinder that fits, It would be awesome though.

The reason the single action is awesome is there is no ejector to worry about meaning more reliability and easier conversions.

  • Single action revolvers are my favorite, Planning on getting a .357, How much was yours? All I have now is a .32 magnum, Shells for that cost more then the fun it gives.

  • This ... gun ... looks ... AWESOME. I keep forgetting that 9mm is pretty close to 0.380", so it never dawned on me something like this could exist. Shopping for ammo for this gun would basically just be a matter of looking anywhere at any given time for whatever's cheapest at the time, since this will eat pretty much darn near any common caliber out there. Great SHTF gun, too. How much do they sell for? And since it's primarily a .357 Magnum, then is this also safe for +P rated ammo in 9mm...?

  • @darkwriter77 I would think that it would be same to fire 9mm +p ammunition through this revolver. We have a .357 k frame smith and wesson revolver and its safe to shoot .38 +p ammunition through that. A .357 magnum, and .38 special bullet are both around .357 in width and a 9mm is around .355. This frame should be ready to handle +p 9mm ammo, but im not sure that any gun is rated to handle +p+ ammo

  • Im know a decent amount about revolvers. Is the blackhawk the only models that is a convertable between 9mm and 357 magnum? What other models are? Thank you

  • I like it! I need to check on one of these revolvers!

  • Wtf, what about the barrel?

  • Good video Miller, I bought one of these back in '88. Mine has the 4 5/8" bbl. and I installed Uncle Mike's oversize rubber grips. (I like the wood grips, but the rubber grips shoot better for me) I agree, they are great guns, and built like tanks. The versatility of 3 calibers, and reliability of single action, make it a great SHTF gun.

  • A blackhawk convertable? Is it hardtop or softtop? lol

  • Err...Pardon the OMGWTFBBQ n00b question...but isnt a 9 a .380 sized projectile?

  • love the convertibles! I have a .22 lr/ .22 mag ruger single six myself!

  • love this revolver

  • Nice Ruger! Very cool... I'm a big fan of getting "double duty" (multiple uses) out of single items.

  • I was watching one of the Outdoor Channels shooting shows a couple of weeks ago (I think it was Shooting Gallery) and they did a really nice segment on tactical use of single action revolvers. They even ran entries on a "Shoot House"

  • wow i was looking at the S&W 610 to fire my .40cal, but i didnt like the moonclips, but i had 9mm and this may be a better alternative, thanks a bunch miller

  • Looks like a nice SHTF weapon.

  • 2nd the request for a "fighting single action" video. Very solid weapon. I had a blackhawk in .44rem mag. Your set up is far and away more versitile. If you were to have stockpiled 9mm auto ammo, you're still good to go! This is good stuff. I love SA revolvers. Something amazing about how they point.

  • Thanks for the vid, Miller. I've never seen a 9mm revolver before, much less a convertible. I look forward to a video of yours on fighting with a SA wheelgun!

  • Why would you want a single action?

  • @SeNs3NoEviL cuz old school wheel guns is pimp and even my modern revolvers i usually shoot SA

  • @SeNs3NoEviL single actions are very accurate, you dont get the long and often jerky trigger pulls like you do on double action revolvers

  • @SeNs3NoEviL youtube search Bob Munden ;)

  • i have been thinking about getting one and now i know i really want one. thanks dude

  • I still need a single action.

  • Very cool, how does the rimless 9mm case work in the cylinder?

  • @biguy525 The cylinder is recessed halfway right where the tip of the casing would rest.

  • @millerusaf darn, that takes the ease out of reloading for revolver....get out the case trimmer

  • I had one of those in the early 70's . I wish I had all the guns from my past :)

  • These guns last lifetimes. They are all very well constructed and built. Thanks for sharing and posting.

  • Ruger's are great guns, I would love to get a model like that one. .38/.357 is my favorite pistol cartridges.

  • SWeet gun, man. My dad's got 4 Stainless BH convertibles in .45LC/ .45ACP. 2 have 71/2" barrels and two have 51/2" barrels. His 71/2" guns are consecutively serial numbered and have identical engraving. They're beautiful guns.
