buy a fallkniven f1,much better and cheaper, with the serations on the bear grylls knife you cant make feathersticks or do some carving with it...i myself own a lot of knifes and my fallkniven f1 is my favorit 96mm long blade 4,5 mm thick vg10 steel cost me 110 euro
Bear is fun to watch, but if you really wanna learn to survive you wanna get it from the master. Ray Mears may look like a overweight Brit but that man in my book is a master bushman
@Urudrim Finally someone who understands knives lol BUSHMAN FTW...... cheap effective BIG.... what more can you want? And you can make it a spear lol...... just a final cherry on top :D
Bear Grylls is starting to sound more like a fucking Rachael Ray and her cooking products or Martha Stewart. I can't understand why people like Bear Grylls!? All he does is eat nasty shit and teach suicidal survival and keeps the masses happy with eye candy! I saw bear Grylls on TV the other day selling Degree deodorant! What the FUCK does DEODORANT HAVE TO DO WITH SURVIVAL!?
i still dont get the difference between a combat knife and a survival knife. is a survival knife not good to stab people like a combat knife . i mean both combat and survival knife seems to have the same tools/functions like compass, saw.....
is there actually a difference?
there must be a difference because of the different names.
@Se7enEleven11 An ideal combat knife would have a slimmer sharper tip because of thrusting, usually lighter, and not as thick, which usually results in a design that is a bit more fragile when used in utility purposes. An ideal survival knife will have a compromise between being lightweight and heavy. Usually better to go heavier (15 oz. to 20 oz.) so chopping would with it would be more effective, will usually be thicker (which gives it the weight and strength), and some other stuff too.
@Se7enEleven11 You can really see a difference when you look at a Fairbairn-Sykes combat knife and compare it to knives like the Busse FFBM, NMSFNO, Sarsquatch, etc. Shape plays a role as well. Some knives are geared towards both survival and combat like the KABAR, SOG SEAL Pup, etc. A knife will vary in size or length with preference, but realistically a knife with a 5-6 inch blade that excels in utility will be enough for when the crap hits the fan that you should need a knife to fight with.
now i finally see the differences. the knifes i googled (KA-BAR, some gerber knifes or km2000) were geared towards survival&cobat but were just named as survival OR combat knife,so i couldnt see the difference.
@Se7enEleven11 But really a good survival/camp knife would be fine for combat. The differences wouldn't really make a difference in a situation where you'd actually be using a knife for fighting/self-defense. Also this day and age no one gets into a bladed duel. It's more of the "I'm gonna kick your ass" then "OH GOD!? WHY AM I BLEEDING" than it is the "draw your blade and fight me to the death" situation.
Bear is a fucking bitch. Survivor man is actually a real show. And serrated blades are for fucking noobs. Buy a scrap yard or a busse or something legit.
If anyone's looking for a knife that's similar in size and looks to this one at a more affordable price point you might want to look at the FALLKNIVEN F1, great bushcraft knife and can be had for around 100$.
yea the knife i use at the moment is the SOG field pup (made of AUS 8) its good and doesnt look like a killing/military combat knife, i believe the Bear grylls knife is would be really good is nice and compact with a hidden punch, except it does cost about $700 dollars if i had a spare $700 i might buy it not sure cuz its still a bit questionable?
ive got one. wont take it in any "survival" situation.
got bored one day and went at my wooden fence with it, you know kinda like one panel over the other type thing where they overlap... anyway. less than an inch thick. tried digging into it and a big chunk just snapped off into the wood.
lol they are extremely easy to find in Malaysia.. u can even buy them at some supermarkets and marts, they are extremely cheap too :p lol but because of that the parang is also the most common weapon used in gangwars
wat!?!?! how much are they ? all i can find are cold steel parangs ( btw i live in japan)
and gangs here are such cowards all they do is carry bats and try to scare them not fight them so wen they see a knife BAM!!! they run away lolololol also if they accidently knock them out they run away cause there scared and feel guilty hahahahaahha
Cheap ones go as low as about $2. Depending on the quality they can cost more.. They are usually regarded as gardening tools and thats why most ppl dnt really care abt the quality
ye i got atked a few years ago and got stabbed in the shoulder and ever since i got out the hospital i had a knife on me. dunno y i got attacked i was 15 ffs.
this knife is almost useless in an actual survival situation. the blade is too small to efficiently process wood. maybe as a back up blade or camping knife it has a purpose, or even running around in the woods "surviving" while a bunch of other guys follow you with tools and food and everything else you need during the breaks in filming.... i.e. Bear Grylls.
a machete is worth more than this little girl knife yes. however a machete is very large and doesnt make good all around survival blade. it isnt a an effective spear or stabbing weapon in gereral and its too big to be a good skinner. my personal favorite outdoors survival blade is the CS trail master i also like the ontario rtak and marine raider. the CS srk is about as small as I will go for a survival knife.
an axe is great but a large knife does it all. if you dont mind i take one when i go camping but hiking or backpacking i don't its too much to lug around especially if your backpacking, you will have a big load out for multiple day or even week trips.
ive been in the jungle, and a machete is a useful tool but it depends on how much your already carrying. my survival training and experience comes from the Marine Corps (recon) and having 60 pounds of gear already a big machete is the last thing i want to lug around. and Im talking survival as in an unplanned situation, so I doubt you would have a machete on you. dont know anyone who walks around with one on them.
what you said quite sarcastic uh. who cares what knife he used. so long as he like it and could used it efficiently in his own way. Furthermore, he did not say that he wont share food with his crew member when th camera is off.. as he is only trying to show us th technique to survive only...
he doesnt really teach you how to survive. its just him running around doing different random things. watch some bear grylls then go into the woods and see how much of that you can actually use. almost none of it! and it does say that he doesn't get food or help or anything from the crew in the beginning of the show. bullshit!
Bear has forgotten more than I will EVER know but, I really don't care for the knife and not a big fan of leather for sheathes due to there inability to dry after getting wet.
1. the serrations on the blade are made totally wrong, they do not serve any purpose at all since the pattern is just plain wrong :( 2. the combo edge with serrations doesnt really give you the cuttingedge you need :(
3. The blade size is jus way to small, imagine you need to gather some wood and you got to chop it up, with that blade it will take forever.. you cannot baton with that knife or you can but it is pain in the ass. I know, i got it.
