i still dont get the difference between a combat knife and a survival knife. is a survival knife not good to stab people like a combat knife . i mean both combat and survival knife seems to have the same tools/functions like compass, saw.....

@Se7enEleven11 An ideal combat knife would have a slimmer sharper tip because of thrusting, usually lighter, and not as thick, which usually results in a design that is a bit more fragile when used in utility purposes. An ideal survival knife will have a compromise between being lightweight and heavy. Usually better to go heavier (15 oz. to 20 oz.) so chopping would with it would be more effective, will usually be thicker (which gives it the weight and strength), and some other stuff too.

@Se7enEleven11 You can really see a difference when you look at a Fairbairn-Sykes combat knife and compare it to knives like the Busse FFBM, NMSFNO, Sarsquatch, etc. Shape plays a role as well. Some knives are geared towards both survival and combat like the KABAR, SOG SEAL Pup, etc. A knife will vary in size or length with preference, but realistically a knife with a 5-6 inch blade that excels in utility will be enough for when the crap hits the fan that you should need a knife to fight with.

now i finally see the differences. the knifes i googled (KA-BAR, some gerber knifes or km2000) were geared towards survival&cobat but were just named as survival OR combat knife,so i couldnt see the difference.

The differences wouldn't really make a difference in a situation where you'd actually be using a knife for fighting/self-defense. Also this day and age no one gets into a bladed duel. It's more of the "I'm gonna kick your ass" then "OH GOD!? WHY AM I BLEEDING" than it is the "draw your blade and fight me to the death" situation.

my advice to you is to get a Woodlore knife or if you want something cheaper then get a Mora knife it's 10 times better than that excuse for a knife

yea the knife i use at the moment is the SOG field pup (made of AUS 8) its good and doesnt look like a killing/military combat knife, i believe the Bear grylls knife is would be really good is nice and compact with a hidden punch, except it does cost about $700 dollars if i had a spare $700 i might buy it not sure cuz its still a bit questionable?

got bored one day and went at my wooden fence with it, you know kinda like one panel over the other type thing where they overlap... anyway. less than an inch thick. tried digging into it and a big chunk just snapped off into the wood.

this knife is almost useless in an actual survival situation. the blade is too small to efficiently process wood. maybe as a back up blade or camping knife it has a purpose, or even running around in the woods "surviving" while a bunch of other guys follow you with tools and food and everything else you need during the breaks in filming.... i.e. Bear Grylls.

a machete is worth more than this little girl knife yes. however a machete is very large and doesnt make good all around survival blade. it isnt a an effective spear or stabbing weapon in gereral and its too big to be a good skinner. my personal favorite outdoors survival blade is the CS trail master i also like the ontario rtak and marine raider. the CS srk is about as small as I will go for a survival knife.

ive been in the jungle, and a machete is a useful tool but it depends on how much your already carrying. my survival training and experience comes from the Marine Corps (recon) and having 60 pounds of gear already a big machete is the last thing i want to lug around. and Im talking survival as in an unplanned situation, so I doubt you would have a machete on you. dont know anyone who walks around with one on them.

The kinife is made out of good materials but..

1. the serrations on the blade are made totally wrong, they do not serve any purpose at all since the pattern is just plain wrong :( 2. the combo edge with serrations doesnt really give you the cuttingedge you need :(

3. The blade size is jus way to small, imagine you need to gather some wood and you got to chop it up, with that blade it will take forever.. you cannot baton with that knife or you can but it is pain in the ass. I know, i got it.
