I saw FNM live in a small old dusty theater, had to be 20 years ago. They all wore suits n ties. It was the best show I've ever seen in my life. That night every song they did was tighter, and more creative than any of their studio versions. When the last song finished, the audience silently stood there in shock. It was MAGIC
LOl.. everyone talks about Mike Patton as if it was his band. They already released their first album before they ever even heard of the guy. Of course, it was a garage band and sounded like one, but they were already on their way when Patton stepped up to bat as singer. SO THERE!
@dragontooth81 Are you kidding? Introduce Yourself is an amazing album, so many great songs. Yeah, Patton is amazing but you can't say the band sounded like a "garage band" before he entered.
I think this is the 1st song Patton ever wrote by himself. You can see all the signs of his emerging mad genius: unexpected contrasts, Kronos Quartet samples, creepy themes of surgery he would later explore with Fantomas ... in short, ever reason you would not allow Patton to teach kindergarten.
I was not even born when this album was released. I just hate it when people say my generation has no taste in music. Yeah, the general population maybe. But I for one take offense to that. Only nine-tenths of my generation listens to Justin Bieber. The other tenth listens to good shit like Faith No More, The Melvins, and Primus. All of those bands, by the way, produced their best stuff before I was born. And even though I am only finding out good music now, I found it nonetheless.
@SwissCheeseHeart22 Thanks! I have a pretty wide taste in music... but if you like Primus and the Melvins, and FNM obviously since you're on this video. you have a good taste in music as well.
@uiruu You're right, man!! I'm from "your generation" too, I love Faith No More and Primus, I like the Melvins. I also like a lot The Velvet Underground, Deftones and Led Zeppelin
I don't know, but the one about 'waking up during surgery', that was the inspiration behind Delìrium Còrdia. That's all I know. Perhaps you're right about JL being about abortion. Would make sense.
the first two and a half minutes are brutal, and that is followed by an excellent minute and a half, this band never fails me. faith no more are the most experimental and deep metal band there was, and mike patton's talents never seem to end
Nice comment, but I suggest that you check out Mike Patton's first band; Mr. Bungle. It's even more experimental than Faith No More, but nevertheless an amazing band, and so is this... Actually everything that Patton produces comes out like gold and diamonds! :)
@Brollyhero99TOP10 Dude, Ive been a Bungle fan for a long time! I am obsessed with every one of Patton's projects. Bungle, FNM, Tomahawk, Fantomas, Mondo Cane and Peeping Tom! He rocks
Wow... Mushroomhead kinda ripped this bands sound off. Mushroomhead had a few good songs but now that I am more into Faith No More, Mushroomhead aren't the slightest original. They ripped off Gwar with their image and ripped off Faith No More with their sound.

@GrizzlTooth that's right, bungle were around way before fnm. mike became most famous from fnm and then introduced bungle when he became noticed enough
@TheBraleys um, Mr. Bungle formed in 1985 and recorded 4 demos (Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny, Goddammit I Love America, Bowl of Chiley, and OU818) before Patton joined FNM in 1989.
Don't ever say FNM is not metal. This band cross genres but they are a metal band who unlike others, were very experimental and sounded original. Mike Patton started as a metal kid and he has done a shit load of other good stuff, but his metal side is still with him. He sings with an orchestra and it shits all over these new metal fakes who only focused on being heavy than actually playing any music. There's nothing I like more than heaviness, but add something more to it.

@UnshackledMind86 maybe with this album, but The real thing is metal start to finish (with few non metallic moments), especially the song Surprise you're dead.
@UnshackledMind86 This, and Jizzlobber were deathmetal influenced. Godflesh's sound influenced this song though. patton said this song is "about a lady who goes to a surgeon and she's getting operated on and she realizes she likes the surgeon's hand inside of her. She doesn't even care about being cured, she just wants someone's hands inside of her - she gets addicted to that."

The most "brilliant" musicians of all time are considered to be bethoven and mozart, and all those classical composers...There's a reason they are remembered 2-3-4 hundred years later. FNM, I'm sorry to say will not be remembered in fifty years, by anyone other that you and them.Coldplay probably won't be remembered either to be honest. But great music is about the MELODY. and i just think this song lacks in it. But everyone likes music for different reasons so if this is what you like, so be it
@killersteve17 You do realize, that Beethoven and Mozart and others like them were Pop Music of their time? FNM is not Pop Music. So who gives a shit if they're remembered 200 years later? They're appreciated now. Really. Genghis Khan is remembered, and he was a psychotic murderer and rapist. "...And when you die, you'll become
@crieff405 Coldplay sucks...Faith no More kicked all 90's rock band asses...Faith no More rules forever they are the best rock band ever,Midlife Crisis is my favorite song
@MEXICANOcomeCACA Kyuss just sounds like most other 80s hard rock... Nothing special about them. While Faith No More influenced Alternative/Nu Metal creation. They basically created those genres of music.
@superblahmanofdoom clean your ears faggot, nothing sounds like kyuss, and everything sounds like fnm, you fucking idiot with no life and less friends, nu metal? big deal, that shit sucks and so does fnm
@superblahmanofdoom Wrong on so many levels. Faith no more created faith no more, they cant help it if souless talentless hacks site them as an influence. It doesn't mean they created Alternative metal or linkin park. alternative to what exactly?an alternative to bad music maybe. Kyuss were fucking amazing and sound nothing like any 80's rock band........yeesh just enjoy and stop replying to people called mexican shit eater, his taste comes from the same place as his food, his ass!
I didn't read the rest of the argument but I agree that FNM are awesome and that they didn't set out with the intention to spawn awful bands, also Kyuss is awesome too. They are both unique in very different ways.
Sorry but Metallica, Megadeth, Tesla, and even Linkin Park is better than these guys. They're not horrible, but this song is about as annoying as humanly possible.
well good for you, i personally couldn't give a shit how the band looks. if james hetfield still had long hair at his age, he'd look like a complete fool.
i just find it weird how you reply to my comment saying "sorry, but.... megadeth, metallica linkin park are better than these guys"
when it's all just opinion, to me heavy metal can be more than just fast chords and pointless shredding,
but to most people, metal is all about fast chords and pointless shredding
How has it come that Coldplay and Faith No More are being mentioned in the same comments? They are two very different bands. I like a variety of stuff from Kate Bush to Neurosis but Coldplay and their sheer level of tedious monotone dullite pap frankly bore me to tears. But, it's all personal taste at the end of the day I guess.
hehe, i would like to see more bands, all styles, making interesting music, yea beatles sucked in red n blue albums, paul said so too. i cant say if i am or not a contrarian, thx for the definition, im just tired of thinking that attractive music is more n more rare, and nothing is showing me the contrary yet.
I just think you take it for granted. If you lived in a world with no music, and suddenly coldplay came out of nowhere, you'd probably think it was the most beautiful thing you've ever heard.
you're an idiot. listen to the joe walsh song vs coldplay. they sound NOTHING alike, which is why they won that trial in five minutes. Nice try though.
gorgeous!

fightboy1000 1 year ago
@MEXICANOcomeCACA Kyuss just sounds like most other 80s hard rock... Nothing special about them. While Faith No More influenced Alternative/Nu Metal creation. They basically created those genres of music.
superblahmanofdoom 1 year ago
@superblahmanofdoom clean your ears faggot, nothing sounds like kyuss, and everything sounds like fnm, you fucking idiot with no life and less friends, nu metal? big deal, that shit sucks and so does fnm
MEXICANOcomeCACA 1 year ago
@MEXICANOcomeCACA Name one band that sounds like this and i'll respect the fact you eat shite.
TomithyTTomilson 1 year ago
@superblahmanofdoom Wrong on so many levels. Faith no more created faith no more, they cant help it if souless talentless hacks site them as an influence. It doesn't mean they created Alternative metal or linkin park. alternative to what exactly?an alternative to bad music maybe. Kyuss were fucking amazing and sound nothing like any 80's rock band........yeesh just enjoy and stop replying to people called mexican shit eater, his taste comes from the same place as his food, his ass!
TomithyTTomilson 1 year ago
@TomithyTTomilson
I didn't read the rest of the argument but I agree that FNM are awesome and that they didn't set out with the intention to spawn awful bands, also Kyuss is awesome too. They are both unique in very different ways.
Idey1994 1 year ago
@Idey1994 Both equally amazing too.

gods yes, but of metal? thats debatable.

no matter what genre Mike Patton does, he aces at it.
everything mike patton touches turns to gold. his metal pwns that of any shit-faced douchebag metal wannabe,
mike patton is the god of music, therefore he reigns over metal.

Sorry but Metallica, Megadeth, Tesla, and even Linkin Park is better than these guys. They're not horrible, but this song is about as annoying as humanly possible.
Midlife Crisis is good though.

lol, linkin park... that's very... 2003.
metallica are one of the greatest bands ever, even if your a dipshit who hates how they've cut their hair.
as for megadeth, they suck. their music is inspired by nothing but hate for metallica, and metal for the sake of metal.
this song is awesome, btw.
if you find things annoying, you probably have clouded judgement.
TrannyAcid 2 years ago
@TrannyAcid: Lol I never said I like LP. I just said they're better than this song. Hell I even said Midlife Crisis, made by FNM, is good.
And nah, I Iiked Metallica better with longer hair.
Megadeth has about 3 great songs. Mustaine is just insane and fires half the band every time they make a new album.
@poksemoto420: Yeahhh you might want to at least learn how to spell before you try and slay me.
FiReStOrMWolverine 2 years ago
well good for you, i personally couldn't give a shit how the band looks. if james hetfield still had long hair at his age, he'd look like a complete fool.
i just find it weird how you reply to my comment saying "sorry, but.... megadeth, metallica linkin park are better than these guys"
when it's all just opinion, to me heavy metal can be more than just fast chords and pointless shredding,
but to most people, metal is all about fast chords and pointless shredding

The best FNM album of them all.
I remember seeing them in 1989. Patton was wearing a McDonalds employee uniform complete with name tag.

How has it come that Coldplay and Faith No More are being mentioned in the same comments? They are two very different bands. I like a variety of stuff from Kate Bush to Neurosis but Coldplay and their sheer level of tedious monotone dullite pap frankly bore me to tears. But, it's all personal taste at the end of the day I guess.

killersteve17 you need to get your head out of your arse, coldplay are mainstream crap their music smells like your breath SHITE.

yeah lets keep in mind that coldplay writes and composes all their music and its actually very complex. Now since you're a contrarian
(somone who can't stand to be on the winning side) you're probably also going to tell me that the beatles sucked aswell.
killersteve17 2 years ago
hehe, i would like to see more bands, all styles, making interesting music, yea beatles sucked in red n blue albums, paul said so too. i cant say if i am or not a contrarian, thx for the definition, im just tired of thinking that attractive music is more n more rare, and nothing is showing me the contrary yet.
shoyur 2 years ago 2
I just think you take it for granted. If you lived in a world with no music, and suddenly coldplay came out of nowhere, you'd probably think it was the most beautiful thing you've ever heard.
killersteve17 2 years ago
indeed
shoyur 2 years ago
yo if you hate this song so much why would you post 20 fuckin times on it... like what your going to turn FNM fans away cause you dont like it? gtfo
Redrum4409 2 years ago 3
if coldplay "writes and performs all their music" then why get sued by Joe Walsh for stealing his music?? coldplay sucks and you suck
heimtime3 2 years ago
you're an idiot. listen to the joe walsh song vs coldplay. they sound NOTHING alike, which is why they won that trial in five minutes. Nice try though.
