I love this version and i love Sinatra's version but i prefear this because its expressing that no one really knew Sid apart from nancy im guessing thats where alot of his hate came from that no one really gave a shti about him really sad insome ways i can connect with that RIP Sid :)
As far as the Sinatra/Vicious debates go, the truth is it's comparing apples to oranges. They lived in quite different worlds, but each one did things his own way, so the song is equally authentic coming from either man.
screw Sinatra! well not really but this is a great raw and dirty cover. I also loved how Scorsese used it to finish Goodfellas, which then beautiffuly sueges into Layla piano.
C'mon how could anyone not like the swastika wearing punk symbol of anarchy thats sid vicious..he was a funny fucker and deserves credit for that atleast lol
Everybody knows that Ramones wanted to make pop music, ok Sex Pistols came out later, but the Pistols were the ones who gave Punk the f¨*ckin attitude
@TomSpartan218 I suggest you see a documentary about the ramones. The sex pistols STARTED OUT because of the ramones. The ramones where doing punk before sex pistols even existed. Punk was invented by the ramones as an anwser to bands like pink floyd, led zepplin, iron maiden, etc. They kept things simple as they could, went back to the roots and stuck to their own capabilities. That and only that is why punk music was born. It was never a rebelion against anithing else when it began.
I don't think that 'The Ramones' played Punk because of Bands like Iron Maiden. Maybe as an answer to Zepplin or Pink Floyd, but not Iron Maiden. Actually Iron Maiden did what they did because of the Punk Music that hat it's heights (as seen on their 'Early Days' DVD). And Maiden began playing AFTER the Ramones.
The Pistols did NOT "start out because of The Ramones". They wrote the song 'New York' as a fuck you to the New York "punk" scene. Most of the NY bands of the mid 70's weren't punks at all...and The Ramones were no exception. REAL first gen punks took their inspiration from the early 70's Detroit garage rockers (The Stooges, The MC5, Alice Cooper). The Ramones were inspired by 60's surf pop, which put them on the outer fringe of the punk movement...not at the centre of it.
@garethac81 punk was started by the brits. new yorkers made a joke and were like...hey, what if made a fashion like this...just to fing out the brits had already started it. they didn't know what to call this scene. journalist caroline coon named the scene punk. so now you know. stop all this shit who started it. if your gonna do that, atleast do some fucking research. by the way, brilliant video, song, and man. R.I.P. Sid!

He changed many of the lyrics, to talk about political causes of the time.
I'm sure he mocks Ferdinand Marcos (dictator of the Phillipines at the time) in one bit. He also changes the lyrics to say "the prat in the hat" to make fun of his close friend (they were still very close right up until his death) John Lydon, AKA Jonny Rotten
The Prat in the hat is what Vicious use to call John. As he liked wearing hats as a youngster
OD. A lot of people think it was fixed, because his H was 99% pure, which DOESN'T happen, especially back then. Then again, a lot of people think he did it intentionally, to be with Nancy. What we know for sure is that he had tried suicide before his death AND that his last fix was given to him by his own mother. Fucked up, eh?
Yeah, it was possible, but I doubt that if he knew how pure it really was he would've shot as much as he did. I just don't think he would've gone out of his way to OD on pure shit when he could've just as easily found the nearest dirtiest tar possible and just finished it.
I can;t rememeber if it was assisted suicide but i know she gave him a dose, but soemone said ebcause his body had no heroine for a bit then had ALOT at once, it was THAT what killed him. But I can;t remeber if she purposly meant to kill him or it was just an accident :)

what??? hey hte real thing was in a bar they go in the stage and love the performance of rotten, at least that what i heard of an interwiew to the band
it may be a stretch, but it's not too far from the truth, if it weren't for him, and all of the sex pistols for that matter, a lot of brilliant bands would never have appeared
it took over seven months to shoot this video. either sid wouldn't show up to rehersal or when he did he'd be so fucked up from all the heroin he'd pass out. they even called in three different bands for the shoot because sid wouldn't play with many of the band members. this video was the last thing he ever did before he OD

The Ramones didn't invent punk. They weren't even a punk band themselves. They were a garage rock band with a few good tunes, AND THAT'S IT.
The Pistols did more to define the punk movement than any other band of their generation.

02nothing 2 years ago
A bit of a myth.
H was a lot purer in the 70s than it is now. Especially in New York.
During Vietnam, they found ways to import vast amounts of pure H from the Viet Kong.
The movie American Gangster touches on the practice a bit.
Late 70s - if you had money, was it possible to get pure H? Of course
cjmooney9 2 years ago
Yeah, it was possible, but I doubt that if he knew how pure it really was he would've shot as much as he did. I just don't think he would've gone out of his way to OD on pure shit when he could've just as easily found the nearest dirtiest tar possible and just finished it.
02nothing 2 years ago
I may be completely wrong, but I'm sure his mother admitted injecting him with the fatal dose on her death bed. She was a drug dealer remember.
According to her it was assisted suicide. He couldn't handle prison, so asked her to OD him.
She was a drug dealer remember, and (again I may be completely wrong) she purposefully injected him with super strong stuff.
Stuff on death beds is often just mythical, but maybe worth researching. I'm sure there are witness statements saying the above
cjmooney9 2 years ago
I can;t rememeber if it was assisted suicide but i know she gave him a dose, but soemone said ebcause his body had no heroine for a bit then had ALOT at once, it was THAT what killed him. But I can;t remeber if she purposly meant to kill him or it was just an accident :)
