Try screwing the cap on tighter.. Also do not use ether, starter fluid, gasoline or anything that ends in "ylene". It weakens the threads on the cap, also weakens the combustion chamber which can cause the PVC to explode into shards.

Glue the end cap on!!,i wrapped mine in 3in exst. pipe with 2in facing away from me cut out"so it would explode that way" secure w'3in hose clamps,wrap in duct tape, then put the ignitor on the back cap

This is what happen when you tighten the screw cap wrong. Looks like the guy screw it on sideways and the combustion made the lid blow off.

pvc sheduale 40 is sufficiant for a spud gun, but you should never use starter fluid unless its made out of metal. he's lucky he didnt die from shrapnel, very dangerous. just use aqua net hairspray its good enough trust me.

Try using a ball valve on the chamber end.

It doesn't have to be full barrel or breach size. Just something to open and close easily for the fuel.

Also take splicers file or turn them out so they slide over the barrel. Then glue them to at least the bottom 1/4 of the barrel. This will double the thickness on the part that has the most pressure. And give 1 more place to add strength/glue so the barrel doesn't blow out

you need solid core pvc pipe rated for pressure, and proper PRIMER, and glue curing doesnt take long...if that was thr problem, you must have shot the gun like 10 minutes after you built it...lol

The Black pipe is ABS. ABS is NOT rated for pressure.

Try to break a piece of each with a hammer. Also pipe marked DW for drain or waste won't hold pressure either. Foamcore Abs seems safe, as it is spongy, but it will fail too. Schedule 40 PVC is rated for 280 PSI. The Hairspray blast only generates 60psi.

Actually what works best is the tinyest spray of either...Or motormaster start fluid. You use more than one quick spray and it wont fire but one tiny spray works wonders. And is more powerful than hairspray
