Depends where you are coming from, but if you come up from Cardiff to Ystrad Mynach station you can get on the cycle track there and ride along an equally nice bit through to Nelson and onto Bedlinog, about 6 miles? You could then go on the Taff Trail up to merthyr Tydfil, another 12 miles and get a train back to Cardiff..pleasant day out...
