Why the ##### have I not heard this band before?! Damn, I've been missing such a lot - they were fantastic! (Reminds me a lot of Fairport at their best.)
The Hopetoun!!! man I was there!! and the Sandringham. Great days. I had a few after closing times jams with Alastair and he was a nice fella with a ferocious thirst!
I remember going to Roaring Jack gigs, only one I reeeemembe the next day is the one at the Hopetoune when i tore my cruciate. hmmmmmm. Some of the best fun.
We may not have Roaring Jack anymore, but another generation along and Sydney's got another great band called Sydney City Trash (S.C Trash) !! Alistair Hulett was so impressed by them he even recorded a remake of his own with them - The Day the Boys Came Down !
I used to see these guys every 3 weeks, usually at harold park hotel. absolutely AWESOME. anyone have yellow cake bob. please, please upload, also escoban-the drink. The acordion player is the coolest person ever. Excellent bloke.
Saw these guys at their last gig in a pub in Newtown around 1991? Never forgotten it. The place went right off, and I, normally a conservative soul, was carried right off with it. Wish they were still together.
I went there with a friend from uni who introduced me to the band. It was a great night. The atmosphere was something special. Nice to know you were there also to share the memory around.
I was at the Sandringham Hotel that night too...wouldn't have missed it! While I did not jump off the stage (remember one guy did a somersault into the crowd and kicked out one of the overhead lights) or slide along the tables...I did have a brilliant time never the less... What an atmosphere!!
I saw Roaring Jack at Club Foote in Adelaide, South Australia in 1988 and it was one of the best live performances I have ever been to! I still have my record and my kids love it! Thanks for posting RJ on youtube- it has brought back so many memories!!!
Love you Al!

1 year since he passed away - but isn't it wonderful to still be able to see this remarkable talent when he was young!
Long live the revolution!
Love you Ali

Alistair Hulett is coming to Aus late 2008. He is touring folk festivals etc. I caught up with him in
Edinburgh for a drink and a chat in July 2007 he was as fab as ever! Little older but just as awesome.
Go to his website for tour deatails.

So do I the pub in Newtown was the Sandringham bloody good they were too. The Pogues came to OZ the same year and this lot were so much better live.
