We are a nation founded on being free from religious persecution. If you are christian, muslim, hindu, atheist, or a scientologist, then you are free to practice and do what you believe. These girls are not being forced to do anything, there are no coaches standing over them making them pray, they pray because they WANT to. If you have a problem with people expressing what they believe, then you can fund a private athiest school, as christians, hindus, and muslims have done for years.
Plus the person who suspended that girl needs to be fired and sued. It is wrong in all circumstances to punish someone just because they refuse to pray to God or Jesus Christ. Schools that punish students and employees just because of their refusal to participate in any sort of prayer or religious activity should never be funded by the Government. Using tax money to endorse Christianity or any religion is unconstitutional and illegal.
If people on the team want to pray, they can pray silently to themselves. Public schools should never endorse religion and I hope that school loses its funding from the state. Schools have no right to discipline students just because they refuse to join in a Christian prayer. Church and Government should be completely separate. Having no religious interference in my education helped me appreciate and develope relationships with people from other cultures. for some obvious reason when I was thought religion in primary school, there was an us and them mentality with people of other faiths.

Hardesty High School has a totla of 29 students from what I researched, out of a total of 100 in the entire school system, the rest being in lower grades. Unless someone has complained about being FORCED to pray, the amendment you're citing PROTECTS their RIGHT to pray, NOT the publics right to PREVENT them from praying.

This isn't really that surprising. One of the speakers at my (public) high school graduation was a Christian minister (forgot which denomination) who "led us in prayer" with a very Christian prayer....didn't even try to include Jewish people which is sometimes done. I just sat there in quiet non-participation with my atheist friend next to me, who did the same thing. It was rather annoying and presumptuous, and probably illegal, or at least unethical with regards to the first amendment.

When people say this nation is a Christian nation, it shows how little education they have. Those who founded this country and wrote our constitution were mostly Deists, not Christians. They allowed the practice of other religions because they believed in freedom. A freedom to believe is also a freedom not to believe. Thus, atheism is, and should be, protected by our constitution.

Hardesty High School has a totla of 29 students from what I researched, out of a total of 100 in the entire school system, the rest being in lower grades. Unless someone has complained about being FORCED to pray, the amendment you're citing PROTECTS their RIGHT to pray, NOT the publics right to PREVENT them from praying.

This isn't really that surprising. One of the speakers at my (public) high school graduation was a Christian minister (forgot which denomination) who "led us in prayer" with a very Christian prayer....didn't even try to include Jewish people which is sometimes done. I just sat there in quiet non-participation with my atheist friend next to me, who did the same thing. It was rather annoying and presumptuous, and probably illegal, or at least unethical with regards to the first amendment.

i'm not a Christian, however America was founded on Christian morals and principals and Jefferson himself wrote the American Constitution on Biblical principals. the first settlers came here to escape religious persecution. i believe in the first Amendment. everyone should believe in their own faith absolutely. true Christians are remarkable people, as most other faiths. i have a hard time believing this is a public school in the video. the real problem is Atheists.

Too bad the government of the United States IS a secular one. The students can't expelled for refusing to pray. There is nothing you nor the government can do about atheism. Outlawing atheism would violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. "As the government of the United States is not in any way, founded upon the Christian Religion." When people say this nation is a Christian nation, it shows how little education they have. Those who founded this country and wrote our constitution were mostly Deists, not Christians. They allowed the practice of other religions because they believed in freedom. A freedom to believe is also a freedom not to believe. Thus, atheism is, and should be, protected by our constitution.
