before my daughters pet guinea pig died, he and our budgie used to "talk' to one another..they'd chirp back and forth, and if the budgie would try to clean his fur...the guinea pig would "purr' while he did this...it was pretty funny to watch

@kingdomhearts39 what kind of places ???? ur not supposed to trim their feathers. if you are trimming them then why do you let the bird out ???? so it can walk on the floor ????? i dont think so, it takes more than a year for the feathers to grow back, thats really stressful for the bird!!!!

@arkeljankushova The feathers actually begin to grow back within a week or two. Domestic birds can hurt themselves by flying into walls/lights/ceilings while indoors, so to keep them from doing so, you clip just the FEATHERS, not the wings or anything. It doesn't hurt him and he's able to fly from the ground to the couch if he'd like to.

@arkeljankushova It is for their own safety sometimes. And even if they aren't trimmed they will go to the floor at times. I have birds and while I am taming them, they have their wings clipped. It keeps them from getting hurt, prevents escape, and makes them easier to handle, therefore more tamable. Once they are more tame, I usually let them go unclipped. And when they are clipped, they can still flutter, and drift from place to place, they are not totally disabled.

@nicollettePerfect as long as they are tamed, you simply pick them up and place them back in their cage. If you have two budgies, you can take them out at the same time, but just make sure if you have a dog/cat, that they are not in the same area when your bird is on the ground. :)

@nicollettePerfect i have 4 budgies and its no problem getting them in it takes like 2 mins max after u do it a few times they no and get used to the routine also when u let the birds out make sure they step up then take them out so they no u want them out when they step up other wise u may change the food and thell fly out

@HellsSkulkers you can tell its comfortable, otherwise, wings clipped or no, itd just fly away. sure it couldnt fly far, but youd be able to tell it needed space

@HellsSkulkers We clipped them ourselves. It doesn't hurt the bird, so it really doesn't bother him when we hold out a wing and clip the end piece. He's been tamed simply through handling and talking. :)
