Very Informative Video thank you! I am curious as how to UN root my LG Optimus V, so I can re root it with Super one Click. Any info would be awesome. Thank you.
@Darkclowno2 I left link for the file under video. did you use that one? in the link to forum there is 3 versions listed could possibly you downloaded the older version.
@Darkclowno2 just gonna run over brief to try and tell me which step you hang on. 1. backup 2. go into recovery mode 3. wipe cache 4. hard / factory reset 5. reboot 6. install file manager 7. enable usb debugging and install from unknown sources 8. put gingerbreak 1.2 on sd card 9. find the file and install 10. open gingerbreak app and root.... you may have to back up your sd card files and format microSDafterFactory. are you hung up on installing gingerbreak or running gingerbreak app to root?
@Darkclowno2 I show video on hard reset and if hung at installing gingerbreak 1.2 and have not even gotten to opening the app and rooting you may need to check your micro SD if it is going bad.
Hi, I have the LG optimus V running 2.2.2 and I have tried using Gingerbreak and is comes up with "Not sure what happened" yada yada and I don't know what to do now... Please help :-/
@piexec it is ad-hoc issue not your op V. try rooting other device and see if WiFi Ad Hoc enabler by Arend works or another app that enables yur asus to use ad-hoc
I did everything correctly and the internet worked fr about 2 hours. but when i try to use it on my ipod touch again it always ays there is no internet connection but the wifi shows up. can you help ??
@greatipodking24 up to you. I did test out a few programs that were installed prior to root to see what would happen and some task killers cause problems. to many combinations to guess which will. you still have to back everything up that you can't afford to loose just in case. so it's up to you. if you just can't reset cause of games your would loose then at least remove any task killers, home launchers, or any other app that customizes your phone you can put them back after.
@greatipodking24 provided that you didn't remove any pre installed apps back everything up, charge battery at least 50%, first unrooting, hard reset phone, and root and hotspot before adding apps back in. There could be any multitude of little things causing it. Lets start fresh. also what software version of Op v do you have? looking back and don't see anything stated.
I rooted my optimistic right and i downloaded wireless. Tethering for root users. I clicked accept for everything on the permissions and i when i turned it off my optimus won't Connect to my. Wifi router anymore
@greatipodking24 you but click allow a second time when turning off hot spot.. go to market and make sure super user is up to date(type in superuser in search to see it). the open sueperuser and remove permissions for tethering for root users. most people do not click allow twice. try phone restart. if it still doesn't work let me know.
Tried it this morning on my new Optimus V. Worked like a charm, I can now surf the web on my iPad thru my phone going down the road at 90mph. Not that that would be the safest thing. Thank you!
@killersoda88 Rooting lets you take full advantage of what your hardware is capable of . such as overclocking and bypass the OS's limitations. permissions are required for such apps to operate and need root access.... tether, keyboards, customs roms , and just because you can. Though the phone companies don't want you to. Do so at your own risk.
For anybody asking, if you use Gingerbreak you can EASILY unroot anytime (why would you? :D) ;just open up Gingerbreak again and click "Unroot"! Voila no more root :)
@OSCAR12345velasco follow instructions. back & up reset prior. if there is incompatible app installed at the time the most i have had happen with gingerbreak is it hangs and does nothing. if hangs don't power off hit home button and it drops it out.

Besides being able to use the wifi hotspot, what else is possible after you rooted the phone the way you did? And is there a way to un-root it and go back to factory settings?
@MsPaulieboy for starters... apps to look into Titanium Backup , Adfree Blocks, screen shots, encrypt internet traffic on phone with app when using public wifi
@PJHS97 please tell the steps you took to root and update the super user. also to you allow or deny superuser. here are steps 1. back up contacts calendar 2. Hard reset 3. sign in market get file manager 4. check mark USB debugging 5. check mark allow unknown sources 6. get gingerbreak 1.20 onto SD card 7. install gingerbreak 1.20 8. open gingerbreak choose "root device" (phone will restart its self when done) 9. update superuser 10. install wifi tether (make sure to ALLOW)
@PJHS97 try restarting your phone. and then go into superuser app and remove permissions and reopen wifi tether and try again. with permissions removed you can re-allow
I followed your video exactly and I get as far as turning WirelessTether for Root Users on but the hotspot doesn't show up at all. Also tried QuickSettings and it behaved the same as before I rooted ("Portable Hotspot Network is unavailable"). Any suggestions?
@millernat100 more info needed. What android version on your phone 2.2.1 or 2.2.2. if you have android version 2.2.2 you have to root first with ginger break? what device are you trying to connect with PC tablet game console?
@mstechify Thanks for replying. I have 2.2.2. Tried viewing wifi networks with another Optimus V (2.2.1) and it just doesn't see the hotspot. Also the only app able to even turn on the hotspot was WirelessTether. If you use the hotspot feature in Quicksettings, does it still work for you?
@millernat100 if you have 2.2.2 you must root your phone to wifi hotspot. no quick settings should on work with phones that can hotspot with out being rooted first such as 2.2.1. If you do not want to root your phone see video posted for USB tether for the Optimus slider. the Optimus v can do USB tethering without rooting. also have added more info is wireless tether for root users beta version if market version is not working for you AFTER you have rooted your phone.
wow! spent all night trying "superoneclick" and went to hundreds of pages on forums and actually took me five minutes w ur vid! THANK YOU! works friggin awesome!
@TOLN38 are you talking about android version 2.2.2 with out rooting and just wifi tether hmmmm if it doesn't work for you come back and follow instructions to get it to work with a root. if you have android version 2.2.1 then root not need for just hotspot. see video for widget use on android 2.2.1
@mstechify ooh ok..well i'm tryin to open the ginger break links on my phone nd it doesnt show ginger break 1.2 but when i press the link on my desktop it show on there..:/ nd i download opera already
@mstechify Ok..wheeew i've accomplished it..Yaay it works all thanks to you...! your alot of help..and i appreciate it.:D really mean it...thank uuu soooo much big much :) lol
@dylanrayrosales settings. go into wireless tether for root users application and then menu settings, encription, and then make a pass phrase. or enable access control. you will get notification to allow each device.
Sooo, is your phone now running Gingerbread 2.3 or do you have to install a custom ROM for that? I have the apk file, I'm just hesitant on clicking it until I know the positives outweigh the negative. Im running 2.2.1 on OptV and it works fine, but I want a smoother, more optimzed and up-to-date interface. Is rooting the answer?
@garymiester7 before apply roms plz learn how to make a back up and watch or read how to restore your phone to stock. I believe the 2.3.7 is more stable release for Optimus v . Don't do it because somebody else does. do it because you want to. and don't root and make changes to you phones system files such as changing the boot and start up sounds without a back up . Nandroid! rooting will only allow you to make changes. initial rooting doesn't make the phone perform better.
@garymiester7 I will say the phone version you have 2.2.1 is great for the reason it can hotspot with out being rooted. After VM found that it wasn't blocked they released 2.2.2 with it blocked so you then had to root. also before applying custom roms check and see what known bugs there are, sometimes there might be a MMS issue. that why you make back up so you can go back to what was working.
@mstechify Thanks, I too have a couple more questions. When you used Gingerbreak, and say I did not factory restore my phone, will the "rooting" erase all my phones content (apps, accounts, etc.) and does it auto update to Gingerbread 2.3?
@garymiester7 no. things don't just happen and people put out faulty stuff proceed with caution. please read up more on custom roms. will send you links to learn more. the wrong thing can brick your phone (dead). but do it right and you may be happier. with the phone and yourself cause you did correctly.
@THEMISTERMG Rooting lets you take full advantage of what your hardware is capable of . such as overclocking and bypass the OS's limitations. permissions are required for such apps to operate and need root access.... tether, keyboards, customs roms , and just because you can. Though the phone companies don't want you to. Do so at your own risk.
@THEMISTERMG and PLEASE what ever you decide to do to the phone after rooting fully know what you are doing and how to undo it. to many people watch videos on how to do something after rooting and try it and mess their phone up because they wanted to replace important system files. bottom line only follow peoples instructions if they explain how to undo it.
i have a question please reply i unistalled it and it left a app of super user and its a pirate icon and im trying to uninstall it but i wont it jst says clear data please help me!!
@EastEZ82 more info needed. just rooting won't do that. what method did you use to root? did you hotspot or try? also open up all comments here and read down to post from digitaldav1 that had the wifi issue and I talked them through what it was for them and how to fix.
@ExtremeCardz i don't tether unless it is for dire emergency. They look at how much data used. do if you use a data monitor for in and out and keep combined at 5GB you shouldn't get red flagged. You also could get flagged if you have inconsistent data use. like never use it and then all of a sudden you are using 10GB data
Is the factory reset necessary? I just got the phone a couple of weeks ago so all I have are normal games and things like that. Also what if I were to just remove my sd card for the root and it put it back in afterwards?
@timmydude13 It is best if you are not sure there will be a conflict of the root and apps installed. you have to have the SD card in the phone to root.
Great Tutorial. This also worked for my girlfriends optimus T. The only thing I did differently was to download the Gingerbreak program from "4shared.com" It downloaded directly to my phone and I proceded from there.
Great vid. I had no problem rooting and Hotspot to my V. The problem I am having is the wireless tether will not shut down. When I shut it down it immediately restarts. Any ideas?
@digitaldav1 is it the tether restarting or tether shutting off and wifi turns back on. Did you root after a factory reset. Was there other apps installed prior. you can also try other tether apps like barnacle. Search android market.. tether. you can also try uninstalling the tether app and re installing.could be maybe you allowed a setting. just throwing out some suggestions.
@mstechify I did a factory reset then rooted. When I try to shut down tether it pops back on the screen to press to stop and so on and so on. You say not to remove without it shut down. Since it wont shut off should I remove anyway?
@digitaldav1 when you first shut it down did you grant permission to shut down. Go into super user and look at apps and see if start and stop are both allowed. you can also look at the log file and see what is going on. are you using Wireless Tether for Root Users? best to ask instead of assume.
@mstechify Thanks for responding so quickly.. My superuser apps have two wireless tether that say allow and one that shows deny. I dont see any start stops, where would they be. The log file shows allowed tether. I am using what you said to use
@digitaldav1 go into super user and just delete the things that pertain to your tether . try rerunning the tether and allowing on start up and then once it is started then shut it down, superuser request will pop up again and allow for stop. it look as if you hit deny on the stop instead of allow.
@digitaldav1 super user is what is installed with rooting with gingerbreak, that app you updated after rooting on android market before tethering. it will be in regular apps list alphabetical
@mstechify I am not sure what you mean to delete things pertaining to tether? Where do I do this? I did remove the tether app and reinstall, but it still will not turn off.
@digitaldav1 no open up superuser and see the list of apps. delete commands set for the program touch the app name in superuser that is tether then touch the trash can to delete
Do u have to stay inside of the app to tether??? Or can u go back to the home screen and do stuff while its tethering??? Pls help getin this fone soon!
@mikemul18 just tested and I have barnacle says it is running, getting text and opening up mobile sites. I have not tested the hopspot on anything but pc so far
@ecwfan1gjk getting there. waiting for tech support to fix (has to go to level 3 support). can't show hotspot with no working web. It's a problem with my MEID of the phone in their system cause text MMS (uses 3g), and calls still work. my other phones work. They have assured me a free month for the inconvenience so as of now not complaining too much. It happened to me 8 months ago. Just the way cheaper VM service is. they contract level 3 support that's why theySay 24-72 hr waitOn troubleTicket
can you do a video on how to get HTC sense onto your phone through rooting? i'm not that deep into manipulating phone softwares so i wouldn't know how to do it.
@w00gl3 Sense UI is for HTC. You can get a Sense theme but I currently don't see any free ones. From android market look up ADW EX and then search ADW Sense theme. They are not free so read the reviews. I will send you the direct links.
@tovarislas Optimus V was first released with android version 2.2.1 The 2.2.2 was not an official update (all 2.2.1 phones will not at this point get the 2.2.2) just something they did to block the easy ability for hotspot to the phones later sold. This is to help those that purchased the phone thinking it could easily hotspot. or got a replacement phone from virgin mobile and lost their beloved 2.2.1 to the 2.2.2.
Imma trying it

dylanrayrosales 3 months ago
@dylanrayrosales settings. go into wireless tether for root users application and then menu settings, encription, and then make a pass phrase. or enable access control. you will get notification to allow each device.
mstechify 3 months ago
Oh and can u set a password for the hotspot?
dylanrayrosales 3 months ago
@dylanrayrosales yes you can set up security. and also you have to ok each device connecting if you set it up that way.
mstechify 3 months ago
Do u have to use the wireless tether for root users to enable hotspot? Or can u use something else?
dylanrayrosales 3 months ago
How long did it take for it to root?
dylanrayrosales 3 months ago
@dylanrayrosales less then five minutes but if you stare at it the whole time it seems like it takes forever.

Is rooting the answer?
garymiester7 3 months ago
@garymiester7 before apply roms plz learn how to make a back up and watch or read how to restore your phone to stock. I believe the 2.3.7 is more stable release for Optimus v . Don't do it because somebody else does. do it because you want to. and don't root and make changes to you phones system files such as changing the boot and start up sounds without a back up . Nandroid! rooting will only allow you to make changes. initial rooting doesn't make the phone perform better.
mstechify 3 months ago
@garymiester7 I will say the phone version you have 2.2.1 is great for the reason it can hotspot with out being rooted. After VM found that it wasn't blocked they released 2.2.2 with it blocked so you then had to root. also before applying custom roms check and see what known bugs there are, sometimes there might be a MMS issue. that why you make back up so you can go back to what was working.
mstechify 3 months ago
@mstechify Thanks, I too have a couple more questions. When you used Gingerbreak, and say I did not factory restore my phone, will the "rooting" erase all my phones content (apps, accounts, etc.) and does it auto update to Gingerbread 2.3?
garymiester7 3 months ago
@garymiester7 no. things don't just happen and people put out faulty stuff proceed with caution. please read up more on custom roms. will send you links to learn more. the wrong thing can brick your phone (dead). but do it right and you may be happier. with the phone and yourself cause you did correctly.

What can I do with the phone if I root it?
THEMISTERMG 3 months ago
@THEMISTERMG Rooting lets you take full advantage of what your hardware is capable of . such as overclocking and bypass the OS's limitations. permissions are required for such apps to operate and need root access.... tether, keyboards, customs roms , and just because you can. Though the phone companies don't want you to. Do so at your own risk.
mstechify 3 months ago
@THEMISTERMG and PLEASE what ever you decide to do to the phone after rooting fully know what you are doing and how to undo it. to many people watch videos on how to do something after rooting and try it and mess their phone up because they wanted to replace important system files. bottom line only follow peoples instructions if they explain how to undo it.

I want to tether but i heard that virgin mobile will lock your service/disable it?
ExtremeCardz 3 months ago
@ExtremeCardz i don't tether unless it is for dire emergency. They look at how much data used. do if you use a data monitor for in and out and keep combined at 5GB you shouldn't get red flagged. You also could get flagged if you have inconsistent data use. like never use it and then all of a sudden you are using 10GB data

Is the factory reset necessary? I just got the phone a couple of weeks ago so all I have are normal games and things like that. Also what if I were to just remove my sd card for the root and it put it back in afterwards?
timmydude13 3 months ago
@timmydude13 It is best if you are not sure there will be a conflict of the root and apps installed. you have to have the SD card in the phone to root.
mstechify 3 months ago
Great Tutorial. This also worked for my girlfriends optimus T. The only thing I did differently was to download the Gingerbreak program from "4shared.com" It downloaded directly to my phone and I proceded from there.

Great vid. I had no problem rooting and Hotspot to my V. The problem I am having is the wireless tether will not shut down. When I shut it down it immediately restarts. Any ideas?
digitaldav1 4 months ago
@digitaldav1 is it the tether restarting or tether shutting off and wifi turns back on. Did you root after a factory reset. Was there other apps installed prior. you can also try other tether apps like barnacle. Search android market.. tether. you can also try uninstalling the tether app and re installing.could be maybe you allowed a setting. just throwing out some suggestions.
mstechify 4 months ago
@mstechify I did a factory reset then rooted. When I try to shut down tether it pops back on the screen to press to stop and so on and so on. You say not to remove without it shut down. Since it wont shut off should I remove anyway?
digitaldav1 4 months ago in playlist More videos from mstechify
@mstechify I'm not sure I answered your ? very well. Tether does not shut down and wifi does not turn on.
digitaldav1 4 months ago in playlist More videos from mstechify
@digitaldav1 when you first shut it down did you grant permission to shut down. Go into super user and look at apps and see if start and stop are both allowed. you can also look at the log file and see what is going on. are you using Wireless Tether for Root Users? best to ask instead of assume.
mstechify 4 months ago
@mstechify Thanks for responding so quickly.. My superuser apps have two wireless tether that say allow and one that shows deny. I dont see any start stops, where would they be. The log file shows allowed tether. I am using what you said to use
digitaldav1 4 months ago in playlist More videos from mstechify
@digitaldav1 go into super user and just delete the things that pertain to your tether . try rerunning the tether and allowing on start up and then once it is started then shut it down, superuser request will pop up again and allow for stop. it look as if you hit deny on the stop instead of allow.
mstechify 4 months ago
@mstechify Where in Superuser do I find the delete the tether aps?
digitaldav1 4 months ago in playlist More videos from mstechify
@digitaldav1 super user is what is installed with rooting with gingerbreak, that app you updated after rooting on android market before tethering. it will be in regular apps list alphabetical
mstechify 4 months ago
@mstechify I am not sure what you mean to delete things pertaining to tether? Where do I do this? I did remove the tether app and reinstall, but it still will not turn off.
digitaldav1 4 months ago in playlist More videos from mstechify
@digitaldav1 no open up superuser and see the list of apps. delete commands set for the program touch the app name in superuser that is tether then touch the trash can to delete
mstechify 4 months ago
@mstechify Thank You Excellent work... It will now shut down!
Now if you dont mind, Do you know what rom to load and how to perform this?

Can you do a video on motorola triumph hotspots
ecwfan1gjk 4 months ago
@ecwfan1gjk getting there. waiting for tech support to fix (has to go to level 3 support). can't show hotspot with no working web. It's a problem with my MEID of the phone in their system cause text MMS (uses 3g), and calls still work. my other phones work. They have assured me a free month for the inconvenience so as of now not complaining too much. It happened to me 8 months ago. Just the way cheaper VM service is. they contract level 3 support that's why theySay 24-72 hr waitOn troubleTicket

can you do a video on how to get HTC sense onto your phone through rooting? i'm not that deep into manipulating phone softwares so i wouldn't know how to do it.
w00gl3 4 months ago
@w00gl3 Sense UI is for HTC. You can get a Sense theme but I currently don't see any free ones. From android market look up ADW EX and then search ADW Sense theme. They are not free so read the reviews. I will send you the direct links.
mstechify 4 months ago
What's the difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2?
tovarislas 4 months ago
@tovarislas Optimus V was first released with android version 2.2.1 The 2.2.2 was not an official update (all 2.2.1 phones will not at this point get the 2.2.2) just something they did to block the easy ability for hotspot to the phones later sold. This is to help those that purchased the phone thinking it could easily hotspot. or got a replacement phone from virgin mobile and lost their beloved 2.2.1 to the 2.2.2.
