  • I like version with James Labrie more

  • Once again I wonder where these pearls have been hidden from me all the time. This one is really good, but the original has an outstanding position in my list of alltime-favourites...;-)

  • goodjob

  • better than the original, vocaly speaking, in my opinion. Although Gillan is awesome.

  • 3 GODS OF MUSIC .....

  • Wow! amazing, amazing vocal. What a timbre and quality to that voice. Bruce is most assuredly one of the best rock/metal voices of all time. I love Ian G. as well but this was amazing.

    Love the song....love this rendition.

  • Original is better by music, and slightly like 0.0001% by vocal =]

  • i prefer bruce dickinson voice but the deep purple music

  • simply the best metal singer in the universe!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would love to see the live film of this!!! Audio is amazing!!!

  • Better vocals and worser instrumental

  • @ricardoleony Megafail!

  • It's just a shame that both Dickinson and LeBrie crushed this song, where one of my fave singers, Gillan, sounded nasal and wimpy...

  • Back in 1980's my first Heavy Metal Band was Iron Maiden "Eddie" always caught my eye & in 1993 I became their Fan club member from Pakistan. I still listen to them, Bruce has a unique killing voice. X Factor was done by Blaze Bailey, I gotta say Bruce & Bailey are unique blends & they are far better than perfect. Now cover for Deep Purple, with DT wow. Thanks to 3 young guys who started Youtube so we may watch these epic videos. They sold Youtube, sold to google for $1.65 Bill. Thanks for vid:)

  • Metal minds are very and very limiteds. This is a great cover, but you're still puting defects ¬¬ fuck fuck fuck mother fuck

  • @vinivox84 who in the fuck would even know what that means

  • Holy.

    Fucking.

    Shit.

Bruce Dickinson & Dream Theater covering Deep Purple?

I must've died and gone to heaven.

  • good stuff, loved it,very interesting hearing Bruce singing, and the rest-awesome job! One of the best metal songs ever !

  • I think Dickinson's voice is one of the fittest to sing this song, along with Gillan's and LaBrie's.

  • Excellent job!! Purples version is far more smooth and sweet, tho!

  • yeah yeah!

  • Absolutely amazing, I think Bruce would be a great prog singer.

  • BRUCE DICKINSON IS THE MOST AWESOME SINGER OF ALL

IRON MAIDEN ARE THE GODS OF MUSIC

DREAM THEATER ARE THE MOST AWESOME PROG BAND OF ALL

DEEP PURPLE ARE THE MOTHER OF ALL METAL

  • It's ALL Good...Bruce...Purple...The Theater...All Good..

Dream Theater did something that even the (other icons) didn't...They play the songs skillfully like the original with benefits, the benefit of (usually 20 plus) years of technology, Top drawer musicianship including the other icons!

Awesome!!!! who could ask for more....except maybe a bag of Benjamins, popcorn and a private jet to go with...

  • Bruce the almighty!

  • Perfect Strangers... Perfect!!!

  • 666 likes! :D \,,/

  • 666 like(s) from hell

  • @Vitorslopes someone runied it WWWWAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Even though I heard that Yngwie Malmsteen personally hates Bruce, I'd like to listen to Yngie and Bruce covering Child in Time.

  • @JiMudou why he hate bruce ???

  • @bathoryfan95

Because Bruce pissed off Yngwie on radio show. It was the first time they met, and according to Yngwie, he tried to be nice to Bruce as much as possible, but Bruce ignored it through the show.

  • @JiMudou is there some recording of that radio show ?

  • @JiMudou Yngwie at that time was really an ass. I can't imagine him being nice to anybody.

  • @lobo72 Igree, malmsteem is a dickhead

  • @JiMudou I think Rob Halford's voice would work better for Child in Time...

  • bruce is simply out of this world...lost for words.

  • Dupla mortal weon o.O

    UP THE IRONS!! lml

  • Bruce Dickinson fuckin' rocks on this tune! Amazing rendtion!!!

  • Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Klaus Meine and Rob Halford IMO are the top shelf.

  • @iJoodoe well said!!!! perfect list!

  • even better than a royal weddding

  • @KevReborn Dont get me wrong, this IS bloody awesome, but *anything* is better than a royal wedding...

  • 18 people can't remember my name...

  • PERFECT LINE-UP!!!

  • Nobody sings it better than Ian Gillan,he has just been polite, screw you

  • fkn amazing :O

  • Best band in the World. SHUT THE CAPS LOCK OFF ! >:(

  • Bruce Dickinson is without a doubt the 8th wonder of the world. No one, and I mean absolutely no one in metal yesterday, today or in the future can or will come close to his voice. Thanks for putting this on. I didn't even know Bruce teamed up with DT and did this.Oh yeah...DP rocks!

  • BRUCE BRUCE IS DA MAN!!!!AND THIS COVER WITH DT ROCKZ HELLLS OFF!!!

  • BRUCE DICKINSON IS THE BEST VOCALIST THERE IS, HIS VOICE HASN'T DIMINISHED AT ALL, COMPARED TO MANY OTHER SINGERS THAT GET WEAK AS THEY GET OLDER, BRUCE GETS STRONGER...HE'S UNIQUE, ONE OF A KIND, A LEGEND, HE MADE HISTORY, HE'S THE BEST AND NOBODY CAN ARGUE OTHERWISE...BRUCE CRUSHES ALL ....THE ALMIGHTY BRUCE DICKINSON, NO ONE COMPARES.

  • BRUCE DICKINSON IS THE BEST VOCALIST THERE IS, HIS VOICE HASN'T DIMINISHED AT ALL, COMPARED TO MANY OTHER SINGERS THAT GET WEAK AS THEY GET OLDER, BRUCE GETS STRONGER...HE'S UNIQUE, ONE OF A KIND, A LEGEND, HE MADE HISTORY, HE'S THE BEST AND NOBODY CAN ARGUE OTHERWISE...BRUCE CRUSHES ALL ....THE ALMIGHTY BRUCE DICKINSON, NO ONE COMPARES

  • Thanks for posting this fine arrangement!

  • Bruce is awesome

  • Deep Purple, Dream Theater, and Iron Maiden together? Wow!

I wish they released this version on A Change of Seasons!

  • and i thought the Dimmu Borgir cover was amazing... :D

  • I would like to hear him as the clean singer for Dimmu Borgir, that would be something!!!, Bruce is great

  • Deep Purple + Bruce Dickinson + Dream Theater = Perfection

  • @rockmetalmetalgod The dream teem (period)

  • take any song and bruce can sing it better. that's it.

  • I like the original by DP, but I will say that this most certainly kicks ass.

  • I am "reforming??" the echo of a point in time..

  • needs more cowbell.

  • @xXSidVicousXx i lol'd

  • Great

  • i think it´s better than the original one.

Deep Purple is such an amazing band but i feel more feelling from bruce singing this one..

  • Bruce Dickinson is the best singer in metal (said by Ian Gillan himself) screw all you cunts

  • @iluvkochikame i think Bruce & Dio are tied for top metal voices my friend

  • @iluvkochikame I agree but show me where he said that O_O

  • @iluvkochikame There is no such thing as "the best"

  • @iluvkochikame Got a citation for that? I'd love to read the actual quote

  • @iluvkochikame Best is a matter of preference and everybody has their own. Frankly I find limitations in just about every singer's repertoire including Mr. Dickinson. My favorite singer will be determined by the sub-genre of music they play For instance, I wouldn't want to hear Geoff Tate sing Metallica nor would I want to hear Hetfield sing Queensryche. I'm just sayin'......

  • @iluvkochikame Bruce is great. Ian may have even said Bruce is the best singer in metal now. But better than Ian Gillan early 70s? Ha ha ha.

  • @CntrlScrtnizr part of me died. Ian's the shizzzzzzzzz. Bruce is bruce and where would we be without 6x3 Ce Beasturonomine Domine. ehm interesting layering of witISSISM /wordweaving VERBOSITY pools of gathering smartS. pools MIND PUDDLES. n stuff. BY ME. EHEM YEA

  • @iluvkochikame can you smell me?

  • @whtevr2008

    why did you fart?

  • @iluvkochikame Dio was!

  • The original is a great song all on its own, but THIS is an awesome cover

  • If you don't like this, you suck.

  • @0zzyfan44 ....say's the dude with "Ozzy" in his name :D

  • hahah, Dreamy Maiden is kinda gay mate! Sorry

  • UP THE IRON THEATERS !!! (or the Dreamy Maiden)

  • superb, γαμάτη εκτέλεση

  • nothing compares to the original

  • cool cover.....but I thought that the pic of Bruce was that of female tennis start Serena Williams !!!

  • YEAH AWESOME as the ORIGINAL

  • As usual with this band when they cover Purple, it sounds like PISS!!! I hate educated "musicians". They lack everything when it comes to feel. They do what they're told to do as in "what they learnt in school". Utterly boring band!

  • Comment removed

  • @IHIKML Funny you say that, for me Bruce is one of the singers with the most passion and emotion in his voice. There's no such thing as lacking feeling when it comes to him. And I like this version better because it's more powerful and fast paced. The original is kinda... mellow. I know that's their style and they're great, but if I have to choose, I choose the less "settled" version. The ending is overdone, though, they should've kept it simpler, without the endless vocalising and guitar solo.

  • @IHIKML Bruce Dickinson is God. Fact

  • BETTER THAN PURPLE!

  • @Jonze93 you are fuck up.....no way .....not in a millions years...this version .. can't be better than purple you are out of your mind.....

  • awesome! but I still prefer the original (:

  • @RafitoOoO

No idea how you like the original over these powerful performances. Ian's rendition was so frickin' whiney it was near unlistenable...

  • When the fuck was this recorded? xD I'm probably one of the biggest Iron Maiden fanatics that walked the earth, and these days I've been listening to a lot of Purple, and I was just thinking how this song totally impressed me, probably more than any other song since I first heard The Trooper couple of years ago... And then I found this, my GOD IT'S PERFECT!!!! BRUCE NAILED IT!

  • @TheTrooper9169666 No offense, but if you just heard the Trooper a couple of years ago, you must be young. I recall listening to the Trooper and the entire Piece of Mind Album on cassette tape around 1983 when it came out, blasting from my boombox on the sands of Hunington Beach, Ca...Rock On! Up the Irons!

  • @ewalls01 there is no offense xD im proud to be young xD and, yes it's not like im listening to metal for more than couple of years, but, the best years of my life are linked to heavy metal, im gonna love this music forever, and maiden, too ! :) wow, cali, the other part of the globe haha, great experience it must have been, rock on too!!! \m/!!! Up The Irons!!!

  • This is nice, but anyway, the most of Deep Purple's versions are better than that. And no compare to Ian Gillan.

  • Bruce is my favourite singer and I love dream theater. this is awesome. anyways, i prefer deep purple's version. {:

  • @fxckingassholes

It's like that often with covers :) Nothing to be ashame of :p

  • @oswaldzimen88 yeah, totally. But I'm not ashamed, LOL.

  • is best vocalist is Ozzy...........

  • @Willdetalhe

If you are trying to say "the best vocalist is Ozzy" I say: LOL. Have you heard about Bruce Dickinson?`:D

  • @oswaldzimen88 lol m8 u forgot about rob halford there aswell cnt forget him

  • @vikingwarlord1250

I'm a big fan of Priest and his soloworks. I also love Dio, Kahn, Paul Di'Anno, Gillan and many other heavy metal singers. Just thought Bruce was a good example since he is singing on this one :)

  • @Willdetalhe haaaaa

  • Dickenson is one of the best singers ever! Period! Just don't tell him, his head is big enough! Great song, great band! Always good to have Portnoy around....Petrucci did a great job at emulating Blackmore - until he went completely ballistic - which was great! Love it - Hate it...I don't care! It's light-years better than Labrie could ever summon.

  • @DickLodge68 Ever heard DT's Highway Star cover live with James? That cover dares you to say that again.

  • def the best metal frontman of all time; ozzie, halford, dio, labrie . . . move over!

  • Invaders .... Sounds good in the beginning but in the end he's getting butfucked.

  • 13 are assholes.

  • Perfect!!!

  • lol in the DT pic u should have photo shopped lebrie's face with bruce

  • Epic Reunion ,Just perfect !!!

  • killer song, killer singer and killer band

  • can't stop heard this

  • I think that Dream Theater doesn't need Bruce Dickinson as a singer, only as an idol.

  • they are gods in human form..

  • el tema le quea perfecto a bruce!!!es mas me animo a decir que se hizo para que lo cante bruce!!!!orta cosa no se si dieron cuenta:es tema esta re alto mas alto que la version de ian gillan

  • 12 people missed the like button

  • I so much liked the voice (Bruce is a GOD) but not so much the music from DT...

  • He sang really great.

  • Excellent vocals by Bruce! He seems to struggle hitting some of the higher notes labrie does.... He kind of replaces high notes with distorted vocals? I would love to hear Bruce do vocals for Dream theater's Number of the beast album though...

    J/K PMSL ;)

  • UP THE IRONS, AND THE... UH... THEATER!!!!!!

  • good but DP original is kickass song.

  • THIS IS A DREAM TEAM!!!! DREAM THEATER+DICKINSON=DREAM TEAM!!!!

  • @pitbull1981gr dream team indeed

  • ....Bruuuuuuuuuuuce....xD

  • As for the video: OMG, this version is just so powerful. Probably one of the best I've heard, surely beats the pure-DT version. If only it were a bit slower...

  • Great vocal performance by Bruce, but that was to be expected. One thing I don't like about this version: it is too fast; the tempo of this cover ruins the majestic gravity of the original.

  • bruce is above all... and not only on his style, he can sing anything, itll be always the best, ever.

  • eargasm!

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • Seeing these guy's in DC july 20'th. I can NOT wait.

  • now that's what i'm tryin' ta talk about! dickinson rocks! dream theater blew that up as well! this is the real deal...

  • I wish Bruce was the lead singer for DT.

  • @ctcassidy Maiden rulez, Its better way off that he´s with them

  • Great cover but I like the retro feel of Deep Purple

  • Okay, for some reason, this just sounds Bruce Singing a song, and a band playing an instrumental. All put together.

I have no idea why though. It just doesn't mix well for me. ah well.

  • Dream Theater + Bruce Dickinson = heavy metal perfection

  • I'm going to see Maiden w/DTopening for them this summer! Would be awesome if they play something together! Seen both seperate many times. First time for the combo. Always great to see a rocker that is my age and still hot. xoxo Bruce!

  • @MsROCKCHIK me too :D at phoenix !!

  • @MsROCKCHIK I'm going too! (Chicago) If Bruce performs anything with DT, I'll download in my pants. Where are you seeing them?

  • @ctcassidy - I'm going to see then at DTE (formerly and aka Pine Knob) in the Deteroit Area. Probably within days of the chicago show. cant wait!

Should be an interesting crowd. Both bands attract slightly diff crowds. Mostly musicians (drummers for sure) at a DT show. But last Maiden show, I was sitting (I should say headbanging) with doctors! (friends of friends) filling me in on Eddie's history between songs. Great fun!

Bring a change of pants just in case. you never know

  • This version is great and all and I have tons of respect for Dickinson but Labrie during his prime can not be compared to Dickinson. Few singers can be compared to Labrie in his prime. If you listen to some of these recording of Labrie belting out E flats and going as high as Soprano A in head voice...it just blows your mind the fuck up! Just find a good recording of DT's "The Killing Hand"!!! With all due respect this version is just like Labries version with notes above a high D taken out.

  • @hamielec Except that this song doesn't need any Soprano A's. And you are right, LaBrie could not be compared to Bruce because they have completely different vocal, uhm, characteristics, but I would prefer Bruce infinitely even to Labrie in his prime (which, however sad it is, lasted what? 2 years?). James' voice in the high registers always felt a bit bland for me. That said, I understand why they contacted him when Bruce left.

  • @Savior1024 its still pretty awesome to hear the high ntoes. It gives the song way more energy. What I'm talking about is like 87-93 not just the two years. 92-93 was when Labrie had this ridiculous style of belting pretty much ALL his high notes. In the scope of rock vocals, Labries style in 92-93 was something not heard before because noone had used chest voice that high (ever) but he was great even before; in his first band. With all respect to Dickinson, he just doesnt have the high notes.

  • @hamielec dude bruce can hit the high notes just fine, I've seen him cover this live...

  • @jrsydvls95 Bruce can definitely sing the song but Labrie added some higher notes to his version and to me Labrie sounds better on the high notes of the song (his voice sounds more controlled and cuts better in the high register). Talking about whose better is just stupid because there is no reason why we cant just listen to both but in terms of range the fact is that Labrie and someone liike Russel Allan can sing higher than Dickinson and Daniel Heiman can sing WAY higher than all of them!!!

  • I'll bet they play this during the upcomming Maiden tour with Dream Theater opening.

  • Great cover....i like dream theaters version too but ill never put them above maiden

  • Excelente versão de Perfect strangers!!!

  • are you sure this is dream theater playing?? it doesn't seem to be them, maybe it's because of the poor quality of the audio.. LaBrie version is much better.

  • @luissacardo NA LABRIE SING VERY BAD

  • i still prefer labries version

  • best voice evar

  • Nah... it's good, but not enough... Too much noise!!!

  • FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!

  • Oh, man! This is better then original! Much energetic!

  • looking forward to June 24, Vancouver

  • oh! Bruce sings soooo powerful!!!!!!!!!!! This is beyond words amazing! What year is it???

  • Its a fucking killer cover man... Bruce made it happen... with JP guitars and Dream Theater at all! Great song.... \,,/_

  • so much better with dickisnon

oh muy fucking god what a good cover

  • ok, it feets well because bruce has voice that is pretty much alike gillan's

  • EXCELLENT VERSION!

  • Bruce FTW!

  • atomic shredding!!

  • I have read somewhere, that this was recorded at BBC 1 Studios in January 1995.

Does anyone have the real information about this recording? Is it available anywhere on a cd?

  • from 1995 the album is : a change of seasons

    1. a change of seasons (medley)

    2. funeral for a friend/ love lies bleeding

    3. perfect strangers

    4. the rover, Achilles last stand, the song remains the same

    5. the big medley

and don't expect Bruce to be singing

  • @ MrSNOWBLAST

You're right that DT recorded a version of this song on that album, but that was recorded with James Labrie doing the lead vocals.

I have learned that this recording with Bruce was at a BBC Radio recording session. It was never officially released so it's only on bootlegs.

  • HYPERDISTORTED this is not their song!! So you cant say others of their song !!! Deep purple's the most amazin' band.

  • oh srry :O well i think you know what i mean :D

  • OMG! JAMES CAN'T SING!!! Bruce is the best singere in the WORLD! you got it ? There is not a singere in the world who can sing like him! James sounds like and old piano..

    UP THE IRONS!

  • should be awesome and epic if Bruce Dickinson sang others of their song like Metropolis Pt 1
