You should modify those CFL's (take out the circuit and housing under the mercury coil) for more efficiency. the circuit is hindering you.
Plus, this 'HV' seeps through the air and insulators, so put a meter somewhere near it and voltages will be felt on the internal circuitry where no voltages should be present. I made this circuit too and the ground really makes a difference. Go buy one of those 8 ft copper poles and work it in the ground to see some big sparks!
good work on the replication. whats your plan to tie it in with the wireless., man i could use a hint on the wireless myself. im kinda at a roadblock i got the l.e.d. to lite about 12ft away, but its only a led. got any hints for me?
yea, cant win for losing with the Hv circuits i tore up a digital meter. igot hv through the whole circuit, i cant even check my battery now when i have the circuit on. does this show the same?
i had my multimeter connected to a battery catching the Back EMF off the coil and it died when i introduced a spark gap into the circuit. bloody annoying!
I think it would be interesting to experiment more with the sparkgap

good work.
think your meter could be bad?
how does acircuit work without drawing a load?
