lols i can just imagine them saying in duck language "what do you wanna do?.." *other duck* "no, what do YOU wanna do?" *goes back and forth for an hour walking around.*
Ducks make amazing pets!! I hatched a duck when I was a kid, and then raised it for 13 years before she gave out from old age. I still remember when she was a duckling, and I remember when she first started to quack. "peep peep QUACK peep QUAeep peep peep"
theyre always cute at first.. but then they get annoying as heck when u find out that they never shut up. still those ducklings are great, hope theyre healthy
Last week I was in Italy for the holidays, and I was in this big amusement park. When the day ended and I was waiting for some transportation outside the park, I was bored out of my mind.. So I started running around doing things with my brother, who was with me. I accidentally run into a duckling, from a band of three ducklings that ventured outside the park. They chirped like crazy because they got scared, and ran through a hole inside the park where there mother was.. Strange encounter.
My interest is in mother ducks' behavior. To test whether or not a mother duck has true love: (1) put her into a dangerous situation (e.g. stoning her) and force her to fly away (2) physically abuse her baby ducks (e.g. break their legs, tear off two little wings) so that they keep chirping and crawling (3) stand beside these baby ducks (4) see whether the mother duck has the courage to come back to protect her baby ducks. I've tested (1) - (4) in at least 30 occasions => NO mothers come back.
In several occasions, I grabbed ALL babies of a mother duck and put them in a bag. Then I crashed all babies to death by a big stone. At first, the bitch quacked, but after I put food on the ground, she stopped quacking and enjoyed the food. Later other ducks joined the food party and the bitch kept enjoying the food. No chirping => the bitch forgot she had babies. Mother ducks = real bitches!!!!!!!!
youre wasting your time testing a ducks moms love.. heres a thought, why dont u run that very same experiment on wld lionesses and her cubs.. see if the lioness protects her cubs :)
Mammals love is well known, there is no need to test them.
But if you are in doubt of the love of your mother, I can test her for you. I first tie you up on a tree, remove all your pubic hair, and...wa-kakaka...see whether your mom will come out of her house to rescue you...
Nope I had a khaki campbell drake and he imprinted on me because he was the only duck I had incubated and he used to chase me round the garden lol, and wait by the patio door waiting for me to come back. So he didn't imprint on me from sound it was from what he saw.
ya they're loud because they're calling for their mother. if you got them when they were eggs, they would hatch and imprint on you, because if you are they first thing they saw, they would think you are there mother.
Not quite true. Geese accept the first thing they see as their mother, but ducklings go by sound rather than vision. In order to imprint on them you have to quack all the time in the correct timbre. Different types of ducks quack differently, and ducklings will not react to the quack of another duck breed. Domestic ducks and mallards are an exception, as the former were bred from the latter and still have the same quack. Konrad Lorenz found this out in experiments in the 1950s.

see thats why im hatching ducklings.
Because as soon as they hatch, the first person they see they think its their mom.
And if they see me, They wont be making those noises when im around,
CassieRox4Life 3 years ago
They're cute, but those are not happy noises. You need to get it acquainted with some sort of "mommy" figure so that they don't cry like that.
