  • Cool video

Still not found a way in,i live on the esplanade and have three blocked tunnel entrances in the car park.Often see people coming to have a look.

If anyone knows a way in please message me the details.

  • All Id say is if you held you hand about an inch from your nose and turned off your lights - You wouldnt be able to see your hand - Its that dark down there. Amazing place. But unless you know it - Its very easy to get confused amoung the many tunnels and you could quiet easy get lost and confused

  • Actually you are a brave man to have gone down there in that dark. Looks bloody creepy!

  • There are more tunnels like these on the site of the former factory of WT Henley in Greenhithe just down the road from here. Once again bored into the sides of old chalk quarries

  • you are a prize wanker,,,ye get the chance to go down there and all you have is a piece of shit,,,you aint got a fukkin clue ,,,you useless fukker

  • I live near there-didn't even know the tunnels existed :-s -nice Video :-)

  • I used to live on the Esplanade in the new houses that were built on the site of the Shorts Factories (then Blaw Knox afterwards). There were two entrances behind the houses on Fennel Close (ME1 1LW).

When we moved in to the house on Fennel Close, the builders mentioned that upon planning application for the site, the property developers were told that these two entrances were to be kept clear, as it was thought (incorrectly) that the tunnels were home to bats.

  • if any one would like to no how to get in the tunnels i no a way in that no one nos ov

  • @jelly121 omg ur prob the only who does no how pm plz

  • @jelly121 excellent ive been searching 4 ever to get back in here could you please please.....she some light as i would love to let my 16 year ol kick off hes favourite hobby by attending with a veteran ( ie...me...) this place

  • @jelly121 Hi there, I live in Gillingham and have explored a few diffrent sites in the medway but have yet to learn of the ways down to the short tunnels, any ideas?? Thanks

  • So I'm watching this and thinking, I don't remember these tunnels in Rochester, Then i realize It's Rochester England not Rochester NY.... i have to stop doing bongs before breakfast.

  • i live in rochester and i knew about this kl

  • Fascinating, I had not heard about these tunnels. I wonder who they belong to, is it the council?

  • videos great soundtrack is the nuts have a great interest in the tunnel system would love to go in let us know if u find way in go in with u

  • Sadly the entrance I knew of is the one so many people now say is sealed. :-( anyone reading this who knows the location of the manhole or the airshafts please contact me. Id love to go back down there.

  • ok i found a way in many months its taking me to find a way in what u should do is go to the entrance that is sealed up but turn left there follow it round till u find a hole on the wall jump in there and ur in i go there like every day if u see a phone down there tell me i lost my phone don there

  • great video.

tunnels should be preserved it is part of history of the oldest aircraft company in the world. this is shorts (bombardier) centary year. by the way

  • Couldnt agree more, My reasoning for making the film was over several visits I could see how others were ruining it. Sadly the documents on the shelfs are distroyed now, I was lucky enough to film them about a week or two before some idiots set fire to them. Im glad I made the video as it captures the place prior to the fire

  • we intended to go back with tools to open up the tunnels but never did.

the entrance is now somewhere under the bank behind the flats

  • If you were going to open "THE BALCK DOOR" Id have to warn you I know the person who owns the key. Hes very aware of interest in that door and has a covert cctv camera fitted with night vision trained on that door 24-7. Its not worth it ;-)

  • dude i really really need your help, me and a bunch of friends from 28days later are trying hard to find a way into this place we went thier today and found many places, blocked to shreds with bricks :(, to dismay. We have heard that thier is a vent you can use to gain access to, do you have any maps or places that still remain vacant for an entrance, pleaes write back

  • Thank god for balaclavas eh?

  • the plumbers working on the Shorts Reach flats in around 1990, found the entrance to the tunnels through a heavy steel door, near Boley park.

we spent at least two hours walking around, and came out into Blaw Knox factory store, quite a distance. we were told that the tunnels were used as an air raid shelter during the war, for the factory workers, although we thought they looked older than 1939/1945.

even in 1990 there were parts bricked up,

  • Is that the big bunker thing?

I think it is coz my mum sed that she once went in there with her frends, and all at the same time, the boys would blow out the candles and they would hav to walk about in the pitch black. xD But i dont think u can go in there anymore, they fenced it up or somin..

  • no its a factory and air raid shelter

  • why do people have to set everything on fire! just spoils everything, hopefully they catch fire too im desprate to go to these tunnels i got some info from one of the many sites that talk about the shorts tunnels, saying that the tunnels had been re-opened but the council knew so to see the tunnels youd have to be quick im gonna get a mate to come with me were gonna see whats what i love the history of this area the council need to take note of the history they could bring more to the area

  • cos they are idiots

  • any of you guys have a decent plan of the tunnels? so you could work out where your actually underneath? i saw at least three bits that lead to the outside, not including the manhole.

  • Google urban exploration and shorts tunnels. I cant remember the name of the site but there is a hand drawn map. If you scale it to the correct size and over lay it to a google map it makes interesting viewing ;-) Ive been told the man hole is not possible to lift. This was by someone who tried to push it up from underneath. I think I know the external location and I think its covered by a disguised steel trap door. When you do the map stuff youll be supprised where the tunnels run ;-)

  • was the entrance in the vines in rochester oif not where bouts r they, cos in the vines there r brick things in the vines

  • No entrances there. Well not to this location. The entrances were re-opened after the fire, but I'm sure there re-sealed now.

  • Great Video. I'm currently trying to establish where these tunnels are in Gillingham and where Blaw Knox was located. Good info on fort lizard on historic Medway but i'm stuck on how u get down them.....

  • Tunnels are not in Gillingham, Try somewhere in Rochester ;-). As for access, Shorts was secured after some Idiots kept starting fires down there. Id say the footage I shot was probably a week before the fire and the subsequent closure.

  • Great video, the shorts are great. Its a shame they have been sealed up now, because of a fire.

  • Thanks. Your right its a real shame. Im please I managed to film down there before it was too late. The film was taken about 2 weeks before the fire. So sad as this is an amazing place
