Working on this song myself, have to say, wow, you did a spectacular job and kind of demystified some of the licks. Still... more complicated than I would have thought.
It has to be said that at the end I do overplay it - the original does not have the 'big fills' that I do. I always wished that the drummer had done them, 'cos it seemed the right thing to do to me, so now that I just about have the ability to play what I always heard in my head, I did it on this video :-)
You may be interested in my more recent recording of this, using my new Roland drums - a better camera angle and better sound - have a look on my channel.
@Magnesiur I don't know, actually! I got this version off a 'Best Of Charlie Daniel's Band Compilation cd. It is how I remember it though - I am 46 and seem to recall it went like it is here!
Not sure I would base much on what is on Guitar Hero 3 though :-)
@dvideto Hey, thank you! Mixing? Very crude actually. I do not use drum mics, no mixing desk, nothing. Just play my cd player very loud, drum as quietly as I can with my Flix sticks (not wooden sticks), and the camcorder records the whole lot in one go. Pretty amazing, eh? It's a Panasonic GS300 camcorder on this vid. I recently up-graded to a HD Panasonic EK300 or something - even better audio quaility. All my vids (except Me & Sarah Jane) are recorded as simply as this :-)
@plumberdude777 I am deeply honored my friend, thank you :-) I love this song awhole bunch, and have always loved the drumming on it (though you can't beat that fiddle - fantastic stuff!)
@plumberdude777 I just looked at your 'drum performance playlist' - and I am blown away that you have put my little video on that list! You got some incredible drummers on that list. I am lost for words :-)
Awesome song dude...this kid in my class was singin it today and I joined in and like only him and I have heard of this song. Everyone was lookin at us like we were crazy. great song though
its probobly the fact that your using rods..if i'm not mistaken..and that doesn't give the exact sound of the drums....but it does silence them a little
lol its funny if you watch your videos in order of date, you seem to get more and more bells and whistles! and can i have your bass drum i love it!?!?!
Date order - I wonder if anyone has noticed, but I reckon that in the 18 or so months since I started posting videos onto YouTube, my drumming has got better and better: I am embarrassed now when I look at some of my early posts! It's funny!
My bass drum? Do you mean as seen in THIS video (it's just a 22" Pearl Export), or have you seen the new bass drum front skin, on my new jouxplan website?!
Er, I reckon you must be referring to the 'Santa Claus' sat in the window?! It was Christmas when I recorded this vid, hence a couple of festive decorations!
I set the camera up pretty much as I usually do. In this case I wanted to make sure you could see my snare. It is very, very difficult to get all the drums in, and the bass pedal (beater), and a nice view out the window, and the lighting right, and the camera height right, and the zoom right, and of course it is IMPERATIVE that I get my face in, so you can all laugh at any gurning that might be going on.........
I don't know the GH3 version, so I won't comment - I am sure others will!
Nonetheless, the original version is much harder to drum to then you might think, even without the mad extra fills I add near the end!
Message - probably during January, and ONLY if it is to a similar standard as the version I have already posted! That vid is very popular, and almost universally 'acclaimed', and so I don't want to ruin my reputation!!! Got to get that bell in though.......
Great vid man! hard stuff to play, but U did real good ! I read all U write as info, and IM agree with U.I should give myself a good foot on the #ass#to learn it on bass. There is such a great bass line on it.Great job!
Yes, this is a lot more tricky than you might think - the accents and changes are really hard, and even the snare work in the verses is tough - keeping time is real hard for me, anyway!
Thanks bro!

That's the wrong track isn't it? I thought the real one was the rock one used in guitar hero 3, cause my dad said he knew it.

Double bass??
toolmaniac81 2 years ago
If you mean "are you using a double bass drum?", then yes, towards the end I am using a double pedal for a couple of those fills.
If you mean "why have you ruined this song with those double bass drum fills?" then the answer is in my description
:-)

I think you should have it more towards the back of your set, so we can see your toms and hi-hat better.
