@whiteskull2112 well i would tell you...but i advice you another method.....shake your hand as d beats pass, even though the notes aren't hit...this will get you in the rhythm of the song...(which is i guess 16th notes 4-4)...........so just close your eyes and lis10 to the part a few times and strum...learn to count the beat....i used to be like that....but once you can bount the beats and rhythm its quite easy......
if you still dont get it tel me...il tel you.....\m/

Contact me through my youtube handle tony11122 with a link to a sample of your ability to play like Neal if you think you have the goods!
here's that funny chord you're looking for at 6:30 : play the C chord then then play the C chord again but move your little finger to the D note on the B string and move your index finger to the F# on the high E string :^) = x32032
I think the chord in this part at 6:30 is x30032. I also think that in the lesson before the am7 part is played with the open g-string and the g on the 1st string.
The difficult chord at about 6:40 is X-3-2-0-3-2, precisely: X(not played)-3(3rd finger)-2(2nd finger)-0(open string)-3(little finger)-2(first finger). Put the first finger on and off the 2nd fret of the thinnest string to switch between X-3-2-0-3-0 and X-3-2-0-3-2.
he is so wrong on the d chord!!! its not.. da da da.. da da da .. its dada da dada da da ... what a bad error for a guitarist to make ?? it proves he is not so good at all!!!
he is so wrong on the d chord!!! its not.. da da da.. da da da .. its dada da dada da da ... what a bad error for a guitaris to make ?? it proves he is not so good at all!!!
dude, the whole thing is in 4/4, just the accents on the drums are on the upbeat of the end of the previous bar, so he never really leaves the tempo, he just accents it weirdly, but if you count it through (which I've done a couple times), it definitely is in 4/4
Hi Justin!! I have been revised your entire beginner course, so far = marvelous stuff, dude! I think I can help you with this mysterious chord after "BIG" D major Here's what I'm doing. second finger on3th fret of 5th string, first finger on 2nd fret of 4th string, 3th finger on 3nd fret of 2nd string. Strumm whole shape and from time to time lift yourfirst finger and put on a F# note on a first string. Whole phrase ends with an ordinary G major. iTHINK IS QUITE QOOL SOUNDING. hOPE IT HELPS.
no offense dude but if anyone was living next door to jimmy page y would they even watch ur video?? they would just ask jimmy page to teach them the song lol. but great lesson man :)
here's that funny chord you're looking for: play the C chord then then play the C chord again but move your little finger on the D note on the B string and move your index finger to the F# on the E string :^)
At 2:04 Justin plays two chords but doesn't say what they are. I'm trying to figure it out from his fingering but the camera is too far away. Anyone know what they are?
that chord that he did know the name of is a c(9), just in case you'r wondering, great video Justin, helped me with the rhythm of this part of this masterpiece :)
Hey Justin these lessons are awesome. Any chance you can make a video with the song played all the way through to get a feel for your version as a whole? Thanks soo much to teaching us a great song.
great lesson and great insights, sir! :) and about that weird 9/8 timing before the beginning of the solo - true perfection has to be imperfect! that was LED ZEPPELIN! :D
On that chord on part F the C chord I think actually what he's doing is actually putting on an E on the B string. That's the way I play it and it sounds correct.
My thought on the confusing chord is to use my pinky on the 3rd fret A, ring on second fret D, and index on 1st fret B, allowing me to keep the C chord and get the F# by using my middle finger.
for the confusing chord... wat i think is.. 0 3 2 0 3 0(for Cmaj) shifted to 0 3 0 0 3 2.... kinda sounds purrfect.... cheers if u agree... btw.. u r a gr8 teacher... cheers on that too.... :)
Im a 46 year old woman from Brazil and Im just starting all over again with my guitar and Justin you are an angel, you are such a good teacher. I'm this far with this song and Im having the time of my life. Thank you so much!!!!!!
Justin... you're a great teacher man... well done! That part that's had you stumped for ages, also had me stumped, but I think I may have it? After the Dsus part, keep your 3rd finger 'anchored' on the D on the 2nd string, and move your 2nd finger to the C on the 5th string and use your 1st finger for the hammer/pulloff F# to E part on the 1st string. I don't know?... you've probably worked it out by now anyway! But that sounds pretty close to me and it's fairly easy way of doing it I find.
Justin, . . don't live next door to Jimmy Page, but I bet he has seen this video--wish he would speak up on some of these details which have also "foxed" me for years, ----, great mixture of knowledge, humor and insight into the learning process which really helps. Thanks
Hi Justin, The chord your not sure of is 1st string 2nd frett, 2nd string 3rd frett, 3rd and 4th strings open, 5th string 3rd fret, and 6th string open - not sure what the exact name of the chord is but I believe that is what he plays.
In concern of the funny part: My tabs (the ones that have a 5000 star rating on ultimate) say, the acoustic plays c add9 (x-3-0-2-3-x), while at the same time the 12 string plays 0-3-5-x-x-x and then 2-3-5-x-x-x, the latter is D7 and has an F#.
Towards the 7:10 minute mark you are talking about that note that you arent quite sure that he is playing. The method you chose seems to be a bit high pitched. I noticed that holding the c chord and dropping your pinky to the 2nd string third fret for that higher note sounds pretty close. Any opinions?
Thanks so much man! I have been learning from many of your videos and am greatly impressed by your style and ability to teach on many levels including pure coolness! Your playing is awesome and to learn from you is immensely appreciated! Maybe one day I will post a video also but it will take some time before I am ready to do so. Blaiser
Very nice job on your Stairway To Heaven lessons. However, your take on the timing of the transition right before the guitar solo (your lesson 4/6) is wrong. It is straight 4/4/ time. There are No "funny" or "whacky" time signature changes. I am going to upload a video soon to demonstrate.
for adding the F# you could use your 4th finger on the 3rd fret of the 5th string, 3rd finger on the 2nd fret of the 4th string,1st finger on the 1st fret of the 2nd string, then use your 2nd finger to add the F#. its kinda awk. but it works. anyway thanks for the video it helped so much. =D
I must say that i am more than impressed by your abilities as a musician and a teacher - i've been playing the guitar for about 3 months, and i've nearly learned the entire song by heart thanks to your lessons. Greetings from Denmark :)
A little tip about the 12-string lick, its actually surprisingly easy to do on a 6-string, if you're comfortable with power chords. Since (most of the time) the low 8 strings on a 12-string are tuned an octave apart, your just cutting the 5th out of your power chord. You can either mute it with your second finger, or pick the octave with a free finger(conveniently shown in this video, actually, lol).
Try it out, it actually sounds really nice when you get the timing smooth. Have fun! ^^
Fantastic series Justin, I learned the whole song with no problems at all thanks to your amazing videos, and it was like listening to an old friend. Your teaching style is just outstanding ;-)
at 7:10 can someone tab that out for me cause i keep doing it wrong and i cant figure it out even though hes saying how to do it... the fingering is just throwing me off please help
he's right about the Fmaj9 chord before the Am, but i'm pretty sure jimmy plays the full chord instead of the four highest strings.
from lowest to highest:
1
3
3
2
1
0
its pretty effin hard with small hands, cuz you gotta wrap your hand around the neck to thumb the F on the 6th string. but you get quite a cool sound if you can pull off the chord change.
I got my guitar not log ago, never played before, you make it learn so fast and so easy, my friends are very impressed of my progress. you are a good teacher. Thank's BRAVO!
wow!! you truly are as good as it gets! you epitomise how a teacher should be!! i'm not just talking about guitar, you could teach anything and anybody could learn so fast from you,it takes a bit of talent and a lot of practise to learn guitar, but to teach it as well as you do is a much rarer talent!! there isn't anybody on youtube that i've seen who's as good as you!! i hope your skills aren't limited to youtube,
noshor use the terms acoustic and electric instead, basically u can play both there's no difference in playing or theory.. only u can get really fast on an electric .. i believe they call it shredding and sweeping :)
You're awesome dude, and SO thorough.

----0-------

The shape is like a Cadd9 and you put your index finger down on the second fret for that higher note.

What is the strumming pattern for that C and other chord part?
GrandTheftDaughter 2 years ago 3
A little tip about the 12-string lick, its actually surprisingly easy to do on a 6-string, if you're comfortable with power chords. Since (most of the time) the low 8 strings on a 12-string are tuned an octave apart, your just cutting the 5th out of your power chord. You can either mute it with your second finger, or pick the octave with a free finger(conveniently shown in this video, actually, lol).
Try it out, it actually sounds really nice when you get the timing smooth. Have fun! ^^

RobDFrizzle 2 years ago
I use the clean channel on the brige pickup.
To me it sounds the most, err, how should i say..
it sounds the most acoustic-like out of all of them. haha.

does anyone know how the tab of a G with a B-base note goes? can´t figure it out...after the C and the E0 A0 D2 g0 b1 e2- chord strumming part
it´s at around 8:05 :)
ZiSt1989 2 years ago
its the same chord as the one that is raked right before the chord strumming part kicks in.
wachman 2 years ago
thanks :)
ZiSt1989 2 years ago
he's right about the Fmaj9 chord before the Am, but i'm pretty sure jimmy plays the full chord instead of the four highest strings.
from lowest to highest:
1
3
3
2
1
0
its pretty effin hard with small hands, cuz you gotta wrap your hand around the neck to thumb the F on the 6th string. but you get quite a cool sound if you can pull off the chord change.

I can totally tell you how each measure at the bridge goes!
I'm starting at the beginning of the measure when the last whole note D chord is played and Robert Plant is all "ooohhhhohhooooh"!
4/4 (Don't repeat this one, it's just to get started on a "stable" measure)
4/4 then 7/8 then 9/8 then 4/4 (2 times)
Solo!
It really helps if you count all of it in eighth notes and start on the last measure before the bridge.

Well it took months of practice but I finally have this whole damn song down! All thanks to you Justin...

kickassboyxx 2 years ago
wow!! you truly are as good as it gets! you epitomise how a teacher should be!! i'm not just talking about guitar, you could teach anything and anybody could learn so fast from you,it takes a bit of talent and a lot of practise to learn guitar, but to teach it as well as you do is a much rarer talent!! there isn't anybody on youtube that i've seen who's as good as you!! i hope your skills aren't limited to youtube,
much respect to you!!.

He teaches both
sk8z4lyf 3 years ago
noshor use the terms acoustic and electric instead, basically u can play both there's no difference in playing or theory.. only u can get really fast on an electric .. i believe they call it shredding and sweeping :)
