its not really professional tree climbing, its Arboriculture (tree surgory). basically working on and with trees in urban enviroments. we have to fell some, but that isnt our main goal. just trying to make trees safe for people to be around and make people safe for the trees.
i know whenever we go camping i always climb up the redwood trees. Its like my hands can just stick on to the side then after about 20 feet i get to the branches :D i hate using equiptment
i climbed a 130 ft oak the other day, it was awesome nice view, couldn't get closer to nature then i removed some dead wood swang around a bit and came back down, they paid me. you cant beat that by climbing 5m off the ground, get a rope and harness and then you'll know what trees are all about, you can go right out to the tips of branches.
free climbing is cool. i'd rather still be tied in... and have a bud belay me just in case me slips from 80 feet. can at least live to climb another day.
nice video, but i would liek to say all the people saying that climbing with ropes and harness is shit or whatever, this guys is about 10-15 foot up in a multistem tree that is easy to climbe, try free climbing a 100m redwood or sitting right out to the pencil thin tips of a giant oaks limb. im not taking any thing away from this video, but climbing with a harness and floating round a tree at 60 foot defo aint shit. much more freedom of movment and more enjoyable ur not so restricted.
Tree climbing means that you use your own arms and legs to get around. Ropes just mean that you know your're going to get to your destination in the tree and thats not natural... When you use your own body to climb, thats tree climbing, which is more amazing as an accomplishment because you have nothing to support you.
May I have you know, that climbing with a rope and saddle allows you not only to enter the canopies of enormous giants, but it also allows you full 3-dimensional movement within a tree. Until you've experience technical treeclimbing, you've only clung to bushes. Or you're an idiot.
agreed mate... understand though you were preaching to a lot of retards here. none of these blocks have ever wielded a chain saw 90 feet off the ground or walked a 50 foot limb on a giant oak. these wankers like to spit a bunch of tough guy talk but i doubt they could hang with a crew of bad ass tree workers

I have mastered the way of the arborist, and still climbing with no equipment is more of a challenge and a much better workout.
