A really good power bar will eliminate RF. Like the ones you use rated for big screen LCD T.V.'s or a Computer. Any running off of raw AC will have RF in it. The Old black and white CRT monitors were notorious for reducing the life span without a good power bar.
I find those claims a bit dubious. The sample size in the cited study was tiny "four Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics" with no control. It doesn't look like it was double blind either. This is what scientists call a "pilot study". Typically they're only supposed to be used to justify larger studies. You should NEVER make treatment recommendations based on a tiny pilot study.

In terms of power factor: no contest, LEDs hands down. CFLs could have good PFC, but won't.
In terms of the environment, production, etc: CFLs will use more landfill, but are arguably much easier to recycle.
In terms of power usage: Fluorescent lights can actually be more efficient than LEDs. I would say, that most LEDs are more efficient than most fluorescents, but it depends on the quality and the age of the light.

Normal bulbs burn an element of tungsten at high temperature in a vacuum to create light+heat. CFL's produce light by running current through a mercury vapor inside of a photo luminescent coated tube. Homedepot has some new great low priced LED now. Made by Phillips and Ecosmart. High lumens and low priced. I would recommend them to everyone. I am buying some soon myself. There are other brands out there but i have not found some with a high lumens output and a cheap enough price.

I presume you are referring to preservative known as Thiomersal which has not been used in any vaccines since 2002, and even then the amount of Mercury it contained was minimal and far below EPA standards. The mercury compound that was in Thiomersal was not of the toxic variety, and was shown to exit the body very rapidly.
Furthermore the reason that Thiomersal was removed from vaccines was not because of any danger but because idiots like you were causing a massive moral panic that resulted in vaccine rates dropping worldwide, and children were dying of things like Mumps and Measles. It was replaced with a similar preservative that didn't have a mercury derived compound so that the 'ZOMFG they're putting mercury in our kids' panic would have even less merit then it originally had.

Past generations knew things about science -- including electronics -- that have largely been forgotten. Such as the fact that electricity and its root substance can rarely if ever be totally separated. For example, whether or not directly harmful to health, the electricity generated by a nuclear power plant will have different characteristics from other forms such as wind-generated or solar. Likewise, mercury present in a lightbulb will produce much more volatile current than, say, tungsten.

your slightly incorrect with the capacitor. An inductor creates an Electromagnetic field that is necessary for a Gas discharge lamp (requires an initial high striking voltage to ionize the gas), capacitor store energy in an electrostatic field. The capacitor would be used to smooth any ripple (DC noise on the AC signal) as well as providing power factoring (to correct the phase difference between the current and voltage)

@Iwillbedurnd Furthermore the Mercury scare related to CFL's is just another scam playing on peoples irrational fears. New CFL's only contain 1.5mg of mercury. The standard 4 foot florescent that most people have in their kitchens and garages contain a whopping 12 mg of Mercury.
Not only that but the Mercury foot print of a standard 100 watt incandescent is 165mg. By using florescent bulbs you're actually reducing the amount of mercury being released into the environment.

I find those claims a bit dubious. The sample size in the cited study was tiny "four Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics" with no control. It doesn't look like it was double blind either. This is what scientists call a "pilot study". Typically they're only supposed to be used to justify larger studies. You should NEVER make treatment recommendations based on a tiny pilot study.

With regard to CFLs vs. LEDs:
No opinion on RF noise. It needs research.
In terms of power factor: no contest, LEDs hands down. CFLs could have good PFC, but won't.
In terms of the environment, production, etc: CFLs will use more landfill, but are arguably much easier to recycle.
In terms of power usage: Fluorescent lights can actually be more efficient than LEDs. I would say, that most LEDs are more efficient than most fluorescents, but it depends on the quality and the age of the light.

@mikelist The way the light is produced in each bulb is fundamentally different, you realize this correct? Normal bulbs burn an element of tungsten at high temperature in a vacuum to create light+heat. CFL's produce light by running current through a mercury vapor inside of a photo luminescent coated tube. The excited vapor emits UV light, the UV light strikes the coating on the inside of the tube, exciting it until it emits light in the visible spectrum. Paid shill, or just ignorant?

@mikelist The theory here is that the ballast that heats the mercury vapor and energizes it is very high frequency, it is causing a disturbance in the harmonics of the power in your home that it is using. The body is then affected by these disturbances because it is like an antenna for frequencies in the 50 to 100 kHz range. I had a betta fish on my table for years (average lifespan, each one), but when I put in a CFL bulb, I noticed that the fish developed some type of scaley disease and died, so did the next one...w/in months!...took it to the window in my room, it got better......now I don't use CFL......

Homedepot has some new great low priced LED now. Made by Phillips and Ecosmart. High lumens and low priced. I would recommend them to everyone. I am buying some soon myself. There are other brands out there but i have not found some with a high lumens output and a cheap enough price.

I presume you are referring to preservative known as Thiomersal which has not been used in any vaccines since 2002, and even then the amount of Mercury it contained was minimal and far below EPA standards. The mercury compound that was in Thiomersal was not of the toxic variety, and was shown to exit the body very rapidly.

According to the CDC "Since 2001, with the exception of some influenza (flu) vaccines, thimerosal is not used as a preservative in routinely recommended childhood vaccines." But, as I have said earlier; extensive testing has not shown it's presence to pose any such danger. Also you might want to learn some basic chemistry, and then you can see why this premise is so idiotic. Thimerosal does not pose any known health threat.

@uzrname54321 People didn't use to get cancer because they didn't live long enough to see it develop. Even then, the rate is not "unimaginable". There are not diseases running out of control, I don't know why you think that. The mercury in vaccines wasn't toxic, there is nothing wrong with GMO, and airplanes don't spray aluminum. @Harabeck fair enough. I think over 50% of people will get cancer in their lives. Autism is up 50 000 % in the last 80 years... i think it's indicative of a MAJOR problem. Some cultures on the other side of this planet cultures have ZERO cancer rates so its a lifestyle/environmental/diet issue rather than "it's normal for humans to get cancer". I absolutely loathe these crap bulbs, they produce a sickly yellow light that has been proven to be harmful to many people. The ''green'' excuse that the elite use to implement them is bollocks! they still contain Mercury and that poses an enormous risk to the environment. If a bulb happens to break in one's house, you must leave immediately because of the mercury escaping, I'm hoarding my incandescent lights, i recommend others do too.

@satchfan2010 There's more mercury in a can of tuna than in a fluorescent bulb, and the mercury that is there gets dispersed so quickly that to have any ill effect, you'd have to seal all of your doors and windows, break a hundred of them, and breath deeply.
And incandescents aren't being banned! INEFFICIENT incadescents are, and the lighbulb industry has developed incandescents that fit the new requirements!

They will eventually end up in the drinking water supply! Incandescent bulbs were/are safe and healthy for us, they are replacing them for malevolent reasons, using ''green'' to justify their implementation

LOL...what did you want?...List the model, manufacturer, registration number, warranty, date of purchase, etc. etc. Its a simple EMF meter and they are a dime a dozen. Not ignorance nor social panic. @ZamolxisReborn - These have not been used in public places for many decades. The new compacts use the same principals as the old type but use an electronic ballast rather than a magnetic; They also operate at a higher frequency than the old types. Further more, if you ever had worked in a building with the old type of lighting compared to one with natural daylight, you would know there is a big difference - to those have their bar set high to how good they want to feel with their health.

@ras12088 *I use the full spectrum regular bulbs, 40 watt, and even they're still too bright for me now. I never used to be light-sensitive until I'd worked in retail for a couple of years. Ever notice how stores always seem to be way overlit? Now I must wear sunglasses whenever I go shopping. Even so, I have to get it done quickly and get out of there. My spouse insists on using the compact fluorescents everywhere in the house and I can't stand them. Have the full-spec in my room and still

i never thought about this before, i bought a halogen 70w bulb today, i observed the light feels nicer, i also observed it casts a clear defined shadow, this means the light is clearer, because my old bulb had a mucky shadow, so i can deduce if that is so it explains why everything in the room looks sharper and more defined, because
our enviroment that we see is only as good as the light we see it by!, sunlight best, halogen 240v second, filoment old bulbs third, floresent last!!!!!

Past generations knew things about science -- including electronics -- that have largely been forgotten. Such as the fact that electricity and its root substance can rarely if ever be totally separated. For example, whether or not directly harmful to health, the electricity generated by a nuclear power plant will have different characteristics from other forms such as wind-generated or solar. Likewise, mercury present in a lightbulb will produce much more volatile current than, say, tungsten.
