  • that jolyn is baaad!!

  • lolol yeah she's as good as me too, i'm terrible as-well

  • i don't think this academy teaches that well i watch these to help me in class. it doesn't help at all, because then my teacher says i'm doing it wrong.

  • Straighten your knees, point your foot, and work out on your turn-out.

  • Wow. She's as good as me, and I'm terrible.

  • Point your foot and straighten your knees.

  • and im pretty sure the head stays front when doing it to the side no?

  • and look at the bar shaking as she throws her leg up. id like to see this in centre

  • pointe your foot :0

  • ewww her thumbs are sticking out the whooole timee!!

  • what's so bad about this dancer? is it her posture, or turnout?

  • @wendyblue7 its not the dancer thats the problem itss the person teling her what to do she cant pronounce the words right and you should be wereing tights and a lertard and a ballet cardigin if you want and this video if you are a beginer you shouldnt be kicking your leg so high if you want to learn ballet i sujest you find better vids or go to a ballet school because these are rubbish

  • @freiano1 ahhhh ok. thanks.

  • @wendyblue7 and i just looked this person and dance school up the webpage has nuthing on it so i think it is a fake

  • mind you this is beginner

  • @ eierman97 and@722kittycat same, mustve been 4 when i did, wuit 4 soccer and wanna go back.im not on my scool dance team though....haha srry.

  • beautiful first position? HAH!

  • are these people retarded. what the fuck are they wearing. leotard and tights, get your stupid lulu lemon pants off, and take off that stupid shirt.

my god, this is highly un professional

  • Uhh Eileen O'Brien i think you're fucking blind

  • i'm 14 and really want to start ballet but all the classes near me that aren't really high in the grades or on pointe are for 5 year olds :/ I wish i never gave up :(

  • @albyxxxalb saamme, im turning 14 and i did ballet 3-6 yrs i think thn did soccer and i wanna go back soo baadd!!i feel like ill be behind though cuz ik friends that never quit soo..

  • @bellatrixlives61511 It's so annoying! but I found a place and I have a friend doing it but I'm worried I'm going to be crap compared to them :// I'm doing a taster lesson in september and i've got a ballet dvd that teaches me all the vocab with the moves and stuff and i really want to be good enough for the class. I think you should go for it because the longer you leave it, the more you'll regret it and the bigger gap between you and your friend's level of ballet xxx

  • @albyxxxalb EXACTLY. i completely agree and thats awesome that ur getting to start, i hope you like it and u succeed:) Dont worry to omuch about how far the others are because if you want it that bad they will understand(might even help!) and youll catch up in no time.Trust me, focus is key and u seem to really want it so good for you.

  • @bellatrixlives61511 hahah!! i've got a couple of friends that already do it at this group and hopefully i'll be alright :) good advice :) i'll definitely bear that in mind, thanks :) x

  • "she's standing in her BEAUTIFUL 1st position" THAT WAS definitely a sarcasm.

  • i have a question.. for grand battement, do u do point, lift, point close ? or just like this?

  • I'm almost 14 and I really want to take ballet but haven't sense I was like five I really want to take it and I am on my school dance team what should I do?

  • @eierman97 go for it girl!it will really help you!but make sure you have a great teacher, preferably a former ballerina or ballet instructor!good luck:D

  • Suddenly dance really intrests me but I don't think I'm flexible enogh and I am 13 but have never done dance or gymnastics in my life. What should I do?

  • @722kittycat

You're only 13 - go for it. Start now by stretching every day or two...all 3 splits, and maybe some leg lifts and sit ups. Then when you've got those muscles strengthened, take a basic class. Look for your age group and remember that ballet (and gymnastics) is not easy and it takes time, but it's always so much fun.

  • Yeah def not the best demonstration.

  • she is moving her torso to much when she goes to the side. but other wise, really good!

    McKenna

  • she relies on the barre far too much

  • her back just goes side to side. it's terrible. expert village? seriously? that's a terrible name for this.

  • Hands need to relax, knee's need to straighten, turnout needs to be much much much more, elbows lifted, some sort of head, sigh....

  • her upper body is moving to much..o.o she needs to hold her core, and make sure she keeps her standing leg sturdy...O.o

  • I was very interested in ballet...whn i saw d 1st video i was much more interested. As many of u guys said i too agree that the video is not good

  • what the damn hell is this?I was very interested in ballet...whn i saw d 1st video i was much more interested. As many of u guys said i too agree that the video is not good

  • This girl needs to do 3 things to learn ballet:

    1)Greatly increase her flexibility

2)Strengthen her muscles especially her core muscles so she can keep her posture

3)after completing the first 2(which if done correctly will take no more than an year) go and find a new and better teacher

  • she is crap

  • i'm pretty sure that a grande battement is just meant to be a movement of the leg. not the whole body? just saying...

  • arent you supposed to point when you touch the floor aswell not just whack it back like she is?:S

  • this is painful.

  • maybe I don't know much about ballet but I don't think that's enough turn out

  • god these are horrible!!! she practically ratchets up like fred flintstone when she is swinging her "layg" as they call it. pull these videos! these are even worse than the other "expert village" videos and that is really saying something.

AND WHAT THE HELL IS IT BEHIND THEM? did they borrow a children's show set for the day or something?

  • "Beautiful straight leg. Notice that her left foot is staying in the beautiful turned out positions"

    ARE YOU BLIND?

  • ....my god,she moved the whole upper body.....OTL....

  • this is just... terrible.

    even i can do better.

  • those are claws, not hands

  • @Justine20078 lol i agree

they cant pronounce leg properly they say 'layg'

  • looved the wrists ......lol

  • a beautifull turned out 1st position, ROFL - btw, youd almost NEVER do this step from a 1st position.

  • i wonder if she ever says "that was crap jolyn"

  • @frangipanigirlcz hahahaha!

  • @frangipanigirlcz yeah in a super happy voiee :P you know know she says that was great jolyn! haha then gives this weird look to the camera

  • this makes me frown

  • ok, when your going to the side your not supposed to shift...which she does every time........smh

  • I hate these videos soooo much. Expert village sucks. but its soo funny to see other ppls comments on how much they are wrong :P

  • "her shoulders and hips are staying beautifully aligned" that's was the worst demonstration of her hips staying still.

  • This SUCKS. Why are your clothes so baggy? Theres SWEAT on your face, and the bar shakes when you lift your leg. You guys need to go get a life.

  • uhm ok....shes trying so hard to move her leg up that shes sweating

it should look graceful not like an elefant trying to lift the leg

  • Stendi la gamba sotto!!!!!!!!

    Dovrebbero evitarli certi video...

  • Will someone tell her to put a bra on?!

  • 1) it's called port de bras, not preparatory arm movements (wtf); 2) she shouldn't be hunching forward or to the sides to lift the leg up, the movement should stem from her glutes and the energy should travel glutes through hamstring and out the foot; 3) I shouldn't hear her hitting the ground; 4) that bar should NOT be moving at all. 5) this should NOT be a dance academy if you don't know the above.

  • THIS SUCKS!

  • try doing those while not holding onto the bar..SHE WILL FALL.the barre does not solve everything. and would it kill her to stretch a little? put some length into it perhaps? Also she needs to hold her stomach and pointe her toes and...ahh! this is ballet not a jungle gym at the YMCA!!!

  • ok, she is choppy and you need to have control over the battement not swing it up there. lol and her hand is messy too.

thx expert village again for something i learned on my FIRST day !!! (9 years ago) lol

  • when you put your arm up, you don't have your hand in the right position. you're thumb shouldn't be visible from the front.

  • lol "anqua". i'm not a good dancer but i know it's spelled en croix and not "anqua"

  • err...wait what? Grand batma? Anqua? Beautiful first position? My eyesight is getting worse that's true, but it's not that bad. I don't mind amateurs playing ballet if that makes them happy...but I do mind amateurs pretending to be experts and teachers...some of us worked for many years to earn the right to call ourselves dancers...it should be punishable by law to disgrace a profession like this

  • Ok, so everyone is very ready to criticise this video. I feel sorry for the girl because for Gods sake, she is trying. She may have faults in her technique but when you start being nasty instead of constructive friendly criticism it starts looking pathetic on this wall. At least she has the guts to try to demonstate and help people.

  • "beautiful first position"- yea, sure..

  • at the begining the lady blinks waaayyy too much

  • it' "GRANDS BATTEMENTS" and we don't pronounce the 's' !!!

  • she is winging her foot she pointes

  • @Relozory23 , it is considered more professional when you wing your foot. just thought id tell you not trying to be offensive

  • her posture is horrible and its your supposed to kick behind your arms. plus when your on the bar, you are supposed to hold it if streching

  • whenever i do this, i lean to my foot and move my hips. i cant stop doing this, help!!!

  • in ballet, whenever you hold up your hand like she does when she did the front one, always put your thumb behind your hand, your thumb should never be shown; atleast that's what i've been taught.

  • she has to find her center, she's putting all of her weight forward when she goes forward, when she goes side, shes putting all her weight on thee ballet barre... and she's shifting her hips. NOT GOOD.

  • ''she is standing in a beautifull first position with her toes turned out''...hahahahahah i cant stop laughing!!!!!

  • i know right!!!! if i did my first position like that in class, I would get sooo much crap from my teachers lol i also have a 180 degree turnout so that feels turned in lmao!!

  • She has a nose whistle :)

  • ela naum esta passandu por meia ponta , ponta

  • i like those videos (:, but there is something that doesn't seem professional!!!! the french names of ballet are with sooo many mistakes!!!

  • beautiful.

  • not telling about the height, she should care more about battement tendu doing grand battement - her foot is going up to early from the ground, not really from the toes, the same with coming back (even more) - also that's why she sometimes loses her pointed foot when the leg is up.

  • her nose whistles

  • if you are trying t to be professional about this, i doesn't look professional at all. If you are a serious ballet dancer you NEVER wear baggy clothes, its called a leotard and tights. In ballet it requires control your foot should never be thumping the ground when it comes down, it should be quite and graceful.

  • @maced2x Objection!Baggy clothes are comfortable and it makes it easier to move. That's why my ballet teacher always has to use baggy clothes.

  • @Spycatfan

Baggy clothes don't show lines. Baggy clothes don't belong in classical training, if that's you're going for...

  • @maced2x And also you don't say "beautiful" ten times. As a teacher you must always want better

  • @maced2x you tell em

  • use the floor more..

the fingers...the thumb is sticking out in some point.

umm.. wen she throws her leg up, i think shes goin away a bit from her supperting leg..

ur supporting leg must remain steady and straight.

and i think more control too.. wen throwin and goin back.

    :)

  • hahaha...in the beginning she says gra battmas and in the ending she says

    Groand battmaXD

  • i think that their demonstrater can use a more comfortable clothes. but she doesnt know what is doing that video make me fell good cause it show taht im not the worst ballerina of ballet inthe world :D

  • EXPERT VILLAGE????!!!!!!!!! those peoples are IDIOTS!!!!!!!! ballet is perfection and this is ballet for IDIOTS!!!!!

  • Why do they have to wear baggy t-shirts and trousers, for bloomin' sake put a leotard and tights on!

  • i dont mind these videos... now i finally know im not the worst dancer in the world...

  • OMG! she's dacing salsa! hey is ballet ! dont move your hips!

  • Oh my god... It is such a pitty that this girl will never learn how to do a grand battement..!!!! This was terrible really... And I am not talking for the girl, but for the woman claiming to be a teacher!!!!!

  • Dare I ask Eileen O'Brien where she received her training?

  • My sister can do better

  • hmm, I'm afraid that her legs aren't straight at all...

  • What is this!? This is horrible? Why is this channel called "expert village?" It should be called "retard village." I have very little ballet training but I've trained allot more in other areas of dance but I know this is wrong. Very very wrong.

  • OMG!!!!!!!! terrible!!!! i am beginer, but i am not idiot to do those things!

  • !??!?!?!

    Expert Village?

If you want to call yourselves experts, please make videos about stuff you really master. This video is really wasting all credibility. In a class, she'd probably get a nice slap behind the head doing such a crap.

  • OMG HER STOMACHHHHH

  • this is not beautiful, at all

  • wow, thats not graceful at all.....

  • OMG!IT'S TERRIBLE!!!!

  • she moves her hips! ¬¬

  • her upper body is bucking and her foot isnt turned out

  • Her movements are altogether too jerky. Ballet is about grace and elegance. Yes, we all know that the Grand Battement might be a bit violent as in the sudden rise of the leg, but it is important to at least place the leg back to third position softly, not just slamming it there. She should concentrate on the turning out and body strength; at this level, height does not matter. I also think she was leaning on the barre too much for support.

  • i will say this....i don't know if she can get hurt doing what she is doing, but if she has to jerk her upper body that much to get her leg where it is, then she needs to bring the leg lower. when u start out it is about the turnout and the straightnes of the working leg, supporting leg and thestability of the upper body. it is not about height, that can be developed later. so don't jerk the body to get the leg higher, because height is not the ultimate goal as a beginner dancer.

  • the teacher just keeps on saying "oh,beautiful" this and that well

just saying but when u do a battement,

you push off the floor with your big toe,

tightening up the abs, butt, leg&pointing your foot. don't heave your leg in the air,

let it float and have some control with it, the only thing moving is your leg.

  • ok i've only done gym for about 7 months, and my high kicks are way better than hers......

  • no, just, no.

    WRONG.

    just, not right.

    shes going to hurt herself.

  • sifuhdfbbfoidgdf

    gaefblkfhjnbwiu rbo; ieNBUIORHNAVOPEIFHBAFH NFEIO'B

  • this is an awful demonstration. her legs are very heavy and she is not working through the foot. her palms and fingers have too much tension and distract me from the body line. she doesnt seen to be using her core aswell....she is moving all over the place. a grande battement with the energy of a brick here

  • My teacher once told me that I looked like I was holding a big mac. My friend later told me it was because my hands looked like claws and they looked like I was holding a hamburger. This girl obviously doesn't know that she shouldn't have done that. The teacher in this was stupid enough to let her demonstrate it on Youtube.

Also, she shouldn't be moving her hips that much when she goes to the side. Doesn't make you stronger, and it doesn't look good.

  • um. i have a problem with this video. i've been taking ballet for 13 years and i have actually been lucky enough to attend the Joffrey summer program.

-a grande battement starts with a tondue and then the leg is lifted from underneath, you don't use your outer thighs to throw your leg up. (otherwise you're only cheating yourself).

  • I understand U are upset about the comments..but wot those ladies are doing is the same as teaching that 2+2=5..and your little brother is in front of the computer learning that..HOW WOULD U FEEL ABOUT IT? thats our reaction..u need to take a real class..and then u will understand wot r we saying..

Ballet is Beautiful..and if u want to start it's GREAT..but take a class with a real teacher and u will notice the difference!

Good Luck in your Carrer! And if u like ballet don't be afraid to start

  • i feel u they dont understand if they really think u can learn something like ballet on the computer then somethings wrong

  • wtf that was awful

  • THANK YOU PEOPLE FOR YOUR COMMENTS!!! I learned something very important: the better you get in ballet, the worse you get as a person!!! I'll keep that in mind when deciding if I wanna go to ballet lessons or not...

  • Such catty comments!

All of you dancers ripping on this video need to stop and take a look at what sort of perception you are giving to those out there who are curious about ballet. Seriously, catty, snarky comments rattling on about the lack of technique or the nit picky problems with the video would make anyone who was just looking out of curiosity go running for the hills.

Just because you are a dancer doesn't give you the right to be a brat. no matter what age you are. Jeeze

  • So true. People say things on youtube that they would never say to someone's face.

  • Exactly. I can see that its not the best Grande Battement ever, and i havent even done ballet for that long,i don't have anything against these snooty ballet vets, but i just think that they could help her instead of being horrible, and "Heyyouarestupid" your comment was atrocious, all the ballet terms were right, but you are just wrong, she is a student, and you are the disgrace to ballet. Its not a competition or criticising forum, its an art,i wish some people would still have the passion for it.

  • i'd have to totally agree with u. im not a ballet dancer and i am just starting and i was just taking a look at these videos. these comments are realy discouraging, for someone who wants to learn. just makes me confused...not knowing whether this is right ot wrong.

  • gaaahhhhh

    what was that?!?

  • that was a disgrace to all ballet....

oh lord how could someone possibly demonstrate a grande battement like that and call themselves part of "expert village" no turnout, pronation of the feet, hips not placed, body not placed, incorrect directions, un pointed feet, bent legs, finger placement incorrect... i could go on for days.. please dont flaunt this saying that it is a grande battement because it is not...this is a martial arts kick

  • She is demonstrating for people who have never danced before. And she's no spring chick either. Many of my ballet instructors no longer look that great.

For example my ballet professor's knees are bent in comparison to the students, her feet don't point as hard and her first position is mediocre but she has a doctorate in dance, I'm pretty sure she knows how to do it.

I would agree these battements aren't perfect, but for an adult beginner, which these videos are for, they are sufficient.

  • beathefulll

  • she was lifting her hips to make it look like her leg was going higher. i have been dancing for 10 years and she sucks! also, her "prep arms" sucked, in first position, her arms went into an oval shape. their supposed to be in a circle. she sucks.

  • okey i know im not a professianal but that sucked my 6 year olds sister can do better than this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol

  • When she brings her leg back in from the battement in the back, she is leading her foot back in with her toe first then bringing in her heel. She should bring her heel in first and then her toes. These videos need to be revised before they post them!!

  • no affence you need to not move your hips and your instructure needs to learn how to say the movments correctly

  • listen to yer wan!! "that was beautiful!omg beautiful! a beautiful first position! thank you, that was beautiful!" no it wasnt!!!!!!

  • gahhhh that was so bad.

  • shes kind of leaning into the bar, and using her body to get a little higher. so it wasnt beautiful.

  • jesus that was awful

  • BEAUTIFUL WHAT????:-S

  • I am only a beginner in ballet, but even i can see that this is wrong! She doesn't point her foot at all!

If you're making a teaching video it should be perfect. And the girl shouldn't be wearing these clothes, we can't see what she is doing with her legs or ankles!

  • how old are you? caz i want to begin ballet but i think im too late... im 14 now...

  • I'm 22, so you're definitely not too late! I mean, you will not be a professional of course, but i think that's not what you want to be. For me it's just a nice hobby. Try to find a balletschool near, and ask for a beginnersgroup your age!

  • but... wat if i DO want to be a professional??? :S

  • Oh, well, i guess you are indeed a little late then. I think you have to start with serious training at age 10. But i don't know much about that!

Maybe if you have a lot of talent, and you train really hard...

But i think you are too old to get into a professional balletschool. I don't know where you're from, but if you are serious, just call a school for information. I can't really help you...

  • Baryshnikov didn't start dancing til he was at least 12 years old. It's not too late..

  • yay! XD is she professional?...

  • you aren´t to olkd vor dancing ballet i beginn to dance i was 3 in now im 13 you aren´t to old and ballet ist BEATIFUL i think you MUST beginn to dance sorry for my englich i´m from germany ...

  • i am a student of the royal ballet school and this video is quite wrong lol

  • I could not agree more WTF is this video i am student at rudra bejart

  • quite? id say VERY wrong XD

  • Dear Prima Donnas... If you don't like it, don't watch and turn it off...

Create your own Ballet Video's. Quick critics suck!

  • watch the effing barre rock....

  • horrible!! I loved how she said beautifully straight legs and then she bent them... bad

  • when she does her grande battement she moves forward slightly (which is fine) but she doesnt pull back up afterwards.

  • I am a student of the Tulsa Ballet and that is nothing compared to them. This video is inaccurate.

  • isn't it supposed to start from 5th??

  • you can start from 1st position, but it's more usual (and difficult) to do it from the 5th.

  • Her knee looks a little bit bent in the front & back battements.

  • yikes!

  • and why its from first position!!!!

  • when u take your leg to the back its not streched...stand on your supporting leg and pick ut stomach up!
