Thank's to tv I found out early that these cat's were white, with jam's like pick up the pieces school boy crush work to do etc, I don't think's of them as "white boy's" just great music maker's. :) :) :)
Average White Band...played and sang like one of the better soul bands...this was one of those songs that has a special meaning to me...the lyrics say it all...just to have a love of your own...DO YOU HEAR ME OUT THERE, LADIES?!!! One of the classic bands of the 70's.
no playback, no autotune, no computer-correction, no off-stage instrumentation...am i the only one that thinks this is FANTASTIC?!!! i remember the good 'ol days of talent....
Colour has no bearing on whether music is good or not, Music comes from the SOUL and we've all got one, it's just how you express it, I've spent my whole career singing and being told "Oh before I met you I thought you were Black", what does it matter!!! Just enjoy music for the fantastic creation that it is, and "Until the colour of a man's skin Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes" (Marley) then maybe we can join together as a world and not individuals...
@Thegdee That is true what you are saying. Its just that when you hear a sound like this, especially if you are black you wouldn't think of a caucaisian group(no disrespect). Like if you didn't know Jimi hendrix was black and heard his music, what would you think? Yes, I know music is music and it doesn't matter about color.
Man when I found out these dudes where white I was floored. I was born 79 so this is not my time period of music, but I love this song. These white boys is tight!
Man, the young guy who's singing all of Hamish Stuart's parts THESE days is good, but NO ONE CAN TOUCH THE ORIGINAL! Hamish was definitely one of the most distinctive vocalists of the funk heyday!
I'm from the Old School and these White boys were baaad back in the day. They were up there with some of the baaadest Black groups that were out. When their music first came out, Black people thought they were a Black group. Almost every Black household bought and played their music and their music was played on all of the Black radio stations. All I can say is AWB was/is baaad!
I was so in love with that scottish white man many years ago and this was one of my favorite songs...along with cloudy.. brings back so may mems..for me..the badest white soul bands ever!
My favorite part of this jam is at 3:36. In the seconds leading up to this point they start building up and up, then... slow it down again motherfukkers! That shit gives me chills. I love a great live band and from I can see these guys were among the best.
This jam has been one of my favorites for years. I'm old school to the core, and I gotta say, these fukkers are bad ass! I love this version, a little slower and real smooth! Funny thing though, the bassist looks like he should be herding sheep somewhere, and the lead vocalist looks like he should be on a porn set (think- John Holmes). Just take a look at his face as he sings, LOL! Anyways, great video, and great sound. Thanks for posting this.
I saw them live at the forum in the 70's - they opened for someone else. I was so blown away I forgot who the "lead" band was. I was a kid - but I knew they were something extraordinary. Thank you for this video.
These guys are really black, I'm telling you....they are from Scotland. Their lineage, if you go back, more than likely had black in it. Blacks used to rule Scotland, check the history.
So much good music has come out of Scotland. I've listened to this song hundreds of times (trying to learn the into, me on guitar and my wife on sax) and it still makes the hairs stand on the back of my neck. I agree with acfgklm "magical". The lyrics are so true.
Hi,it's lovely to know that you love this song.I'm Molly's sister,so obviously it's a favourite of mine too!Nice to,that you and your wife are trying to learn it,good luck!!
A truly beautiful song. I saw Hamish Stewart live twice at the 606 club in chelsea, London, and he blew me away with his live version. It is a song I will cherish forever. I took my late mother to see Hamish live and he signed his autograph. It was just three weeks before she sadly passed away. I know my mother adored this moving magical song.
If you have not seen Hamish Stewart live you are missing a wonderful treat. I am going to see him live again on the 29th January at the 606 club in London. When he sings this particular track he genuinely reduce you to tears. A musical genious.
Not only white but Scottish believe it or not.

Music has no color. Very nice song written by artists who were / are serious about their musicanship, and clearly it shows in their music.
