I dont know why my gsd stays in the yard like if a stranger is walking down the street she just watches them she is not trained she is a year and a half

2 of my German shepherds puppies have been separated from me for 3 months they will be 6 months old when i get them back... would the separation for so long be a bad thing when it comes to them obeying me and bonding with me? in the time we have been apart i have seen them 1-2 times a week and before we parted they did puppy training with me for 1 month

German shepherd is by far my favorite dog breed! An amazing guard dog that can do it all from protect livestock from predators to assisting police against criminals to assisting the blind walk, drug detection, to being a home protector... yet, smart enough to be gentle with children when playing w/them and make loving family pets! My female GSD is territorial of my property, but inside, will still cuddle w/my cats on the bed!

i own a gsd an he is wonderful dog very loyal and tought mathefucker, he has many histories, i think the versality of this amazing breed is cuz breeders "responsables breeders" work hard with the race, unfortunely HD is a subject to this breed, i hope in the future gsd dont develop anymore HD. i think blue heeler is a good race in the near future i like to buy one so i can not say is better then gsd. as a amateur trainer can i say depends more of the trainer then the dog breed, learn stuffs.

I am not sure I would rank them that way.

I have experience with all 3 breeds, and they are equally smart.

In my experience, the border collie might be considered the smartest, the shepherd is well known for that, and the poodle is also quite intelligent.

I would rank them equally for the most part.

@HuckFoly You are 100% right on! I rescued my GSD from a high kill shelter and she has saved me from a prowler as well as a pack of coyotes that were fairly aggressive towards us. Best breed EVER!!!!

GSD's were bred as livestock dogs and have strayed away from what they were originally bred for.they breed them for companions now.the east GSD is much bigger and stronger.you didnt mention that they have gone downhill and strayed away from their original purpose.

thnx for posting this video. The GSD is one of the most intelligent and versatile dogs around. They also are the most likely to bite and have the second strongest bite (after the Rotweiller) in the dog world. Responsible ownership is a must.

Anyone wanting to own a German Shepherd should know they're very much pack dogs and at least one person in the family needs to be strong willed for the dog to see as the boss.

Of all the hundreds of dog breeds out there, to be in the top 10, not to mention the top 3, is a big big deal. Needless to say, the German Shepherds are incredibly intelligent and need a lot of mental stimulation to keep them happy.

hi sorry top say but the german shepherd is the 1st most intelligent dog then the border collie and then the ladrdour pood;e are not a clever as you might think .and did you know that the german shepherd has the strongest bite of all domestic dogs of 751-1200 pounds

I have also read that german shepherds are the "third" smartest, but in my honest opinion the only dog that can equal a GSD is a border collie so if anything german shepherds is #1 or #2

Here's something to level the scales for you. The German Shepherd is more trainable than the Border Collie, more powerful, and has more utility in general. The Border Collie can't even begin to hold a candle to the Shepherd's versatility.

the border collie is the smartest dog.And did you know that the wolve is smarter than ANY dog and more versatile?the blue heeler is also much more versatile than the GSD.they have solid bodies and smart brains.

no you are wrong look at the animal planet a gsd pup 15 months old has a bite force of 450 and a 3 yr old rottie has 328 and adult gsd have at least 750 use your brain its FACT pit have 238 tosa inu 556 gsd 450-800+

@Maul767 That's not true. A wolf might have a bite of 750, but a GSD does not. Border collies have been proven to have intellgence that far exceeds basic instinct. With that being said....all of the top breeds would be close as far as "Dog" intelligence goes. Remember that one breed comes in first more often then not..
