alryt m8 ives jst got a brand new nokia n95 sme as yours how do u get tom tom on the phone and get it workin cuz i been through the phone and its got gprs and i cant get that working aswell right bak soon as poss plz thanks jamie
Go to TomTom's website and buy the mobile symbian version. Easy. It's a shame they stopped developing for symbian, especially with how well the Nokia N96 is selling! It won't be long before I switch to a better satnav app that supports the internal gps.
Stupid question but do you have to pay data charges when using this? I've got a Nokia N95 and just wondered because of it having GPS that the maps wouldn't update over the 3G network?
I have an N95 and the sat nav software is rather poor and you have to pay to use it, is there anyone out who can PLEASE tell me how I can get Tom Tom software on it and get rid of the Maps software bundled in the N95?Cheers in advance.
Buy a copy that works on a S6V3 phone, e.g. Nokia N80, and install it on your N95. Bear in mind that you'll have to use an external GPS receiver and that the N95 is not a supported TomTom platform.
Don't know how to get rid of Nokia Maps but I'd leave it on there.
Make sure your phone is operating in landscape mode before starting TomTom (as in the video). The application's display fails irrecoverably if you try to switch orientation while running.
I don't know if Landscape mode will work on the N73.
It was a legal notice, you know all the usual that you shouldn't use the device while driving etc (on a green background), then you select i agree. I've been pressing the wrong side button to agree all this time because of the fault in rotating. Anyway thanks to your video i've figured it out. No more tomtom updates, they're getting thier own phone out soon.
Oh i've heard navigon is supposed to be good, there's some videos of it on youtube
Did not know that about a TomTom phone. Disappointed that there will never be a decent N95 version now. I had heard (read) that it was coming 2 months ago. Still, by removing all poi except speed cams it runs well enough.
I think the main reason for it is the piracy issues, but having said that it is more difficult to get illegally downloaded .sis files signed to your phone (with its unique imei number). I got the news from the pocketgpsworld website - i don't think i'm allowed to post direct web links here though.
Oh don't forget you can update the speed cameras as well as add new voices, they are just the same files as for a a normal tomtom
i have a tomtom 510 and even that doesn't run perfectly smooth. Theres usually a couple of seconds lag, so this doesn't seem too disapointing. Plz can you confirm the n95 cant as of yet run tom tom without a module
As of 21 March 08, TomTom 6 is the lastest version available that works on the N95 but it is not a supported device and does not make use of the internal GPS receiver.
I am not saying that n95 isn't a good phone BUT it certainly lacks in that department. Which is a pity if it doesn't even come close to a 2 year old phone with a CPU of half the speed.
It is also a pity, that you have to cover your lack of maturity with a faul language.
As of 25 Oct 07 TomTom is not supported on the N95 and so there is not yet a version that supports the internal GPSr. Keep an eye on TomTom news for new releases.
TomTom would need to write a specific version of the software to take advantage of the N95's (and other nokias) 3D acceleration chip. Then you would see a MASSIVE increase in the smoothness of the moving map.
jjgruff just posted a question asking what version of TomTom 6 is running in this demo, but I accidentally clicked 'Remove' instead of 'Reply'; sorry about that.
i dont think hes a boring twat,i think we need more of this. maybe your the twat? or rather a bellend? and with a user name like bellendbellend too? i think we all know exactly what you are!!
You're right, TomTom does not accommodate the N95's built-in GPS receiver, I have been using it with a separate bluetooth receiver. I've read (user comments, not from TomTom) that TomTom are working on this and that an N95 compliant will be made available. This release should use the built-in GPS receiver, switch properly between portrait & landscape modes, have menu options in the right place on the screen in landscape mode, and ... please please please ... run faster!
You do have to pay for the TomTom application but from that point on it's free. N95 Maps is a free application but does not offer navigation unless you pay an ongoing subscription fee to Nokia.
I have not seen the 'paid for' version of the N95 maps application but there is a demo mode which I wasn't particularly impressed with. N95's maps has more up to date looking graphics but it isn't as user friendly and the view while navigating (during the demo) is too distant. For me TomTom wins.
You can buy TomTom online or in mobile phone & car accessory shops.

yatsey1992 3 years ago
For normal navigation an internet connection is not required, ergo no data charges. TomTom requires the maps to be pre-loaded.

For something that you have to pay for, Tomtom isn't, well in my view anyway, better than the N95 navigation.
200103511 4 years ago
You do have to pay for the TomTom application but from that point on it's free. N95 Maps is a free application but does not offer navigation unless you pay an ongoing subscription fee to Nokia.
I've just checked prices (3 July 07):
1 year subcription for UK navigation = 60 Euros.
1 year subcription for USA navigation = 70 Euros.
matthewrleech 4 years ago
That's good as the prices for the service provided by Nokia are expensive.
200103511 4 years ago
Is this better than the original N95 gps maps?
And where can I get it?
SirPingo 4 years ago
I have not seen the 'paid for' version of the N95 maps application but there is a demo mode which I wasn't particularly impressed with. N95's maps has more up to date looking graphics but it isn't as user friendly and the view while navigating (during the demo) is too distant. For me TomTom wins.
