why does it look like the second hand stops for 2 seconds at the top of the hour, this clock will loose time after a few days and not be so exacto. :-)
Nope, this type of system is in use with the railways in Europe.
The clock driver generates 60 seconds impulses in 58 seconds, then stops, and is released again by the masterclock, every minute. The master clock is very accurate, this one may be pendulum, quartz or transmitter contolled every minute. The reason it is done this way is to allowe for mains frequency variations which may make the seconds hand overshoot the minute stop and the clock hands would't line up every minute.

Hi, firstly I need to know if your clock has a motor to drive the seconds or an impulse coil.
The minutes drive requires a 1 minute impulse witj a polarity change every minute.
