HOW? our basset hound is 3 now when she was about 2 [just] we went boating and my dad happened to chuck her in thinking she'd swim....of course she went down head first and i fetched her out but she did try.....shes very light weight for a basset hound but she just couldnt seem to do it.....she wasnt unfitt at the time :>
Nope just a healthy in shape basset hound. She's 3 years old. She's awesome. Had her DNA tested 100 % basset. She's 37 lbs now. But still the smallest I've ever seen. If 3 years old is young I guess she's young. And I free feed her. Eats handfulls of treats everyday. She's the best.
@Fulou bassets are supposed to be between 50 and 60, so she is good. When I adopted mine he came at 70lbs, it took about 9 months but he is down too 50 and the happiest he's ever been. I bet your pup is the perfect weight, esp for a female. They tend to be smaller anyway
hockeystick i bet youf basset is way over weight. My 33lb female swims and shes loves and with no lifejacket .All you do is tell people how to raise there bassets.
I don't think a dog should be made to swim unless he wants too. Their legs are very short which makes it hard for a Bassett to stay afloat. Mine doesn't like swimming and I would never make him. Life jacket or not.
that basset likes to swim! one of mine gets in water like once every two years! the other one gets mad that he is the only dog out of all their dog friends who doesnt like to swim he is so afraid of water!

I adopted abasset hound about a year ago...she is now 4 and she is 37lbs too :)... I seen smaller basset hounds :), not common but possible :).
