  • great review

  • How would you compare the recoil to a 300wnmag? I assume the 45.70 is stronger but is it like a .38 to a .357 or a 5.56 to a 30.06?

  • There's something fun and appealing about lever guns...I wish I had one.

  • I bought the 22inch version un-ported. Great little rifle, but the front sight was loose and would slide around every time I shot. I had to ping the front to get it to stay. Just for future ref for folks buying.

  • Dang hickok45, you have a way with words

  • I don't think you got the camera close enough to the gun.

  • Such an awesome gun. My family recently purchased one since we moved into bear country. Our dogs always seemed to attract mountain cats, but a 17 hmr was enough to deal with them lol

  • @MarchingBlueNGold I have no doubt that a 17 would take care of one with good placement but id def. feel a tad more comfy with atleast a 7.62

  • Whats the length on that barrel Hickok?

  • @artyfarty27 What a bitch. Go back to your hot pockets.

  • Nice Rifle&Review,What Pistol holster are You wearing? Who makes it?Thanks

  • Like your vids! Keep em coming. I have the same 45-70 as you minus the porting, and I also shoot a 405 grain hand load. How do you like the ghost ring sights vs the factory open ones? Also, how far are the furthest targets on your range?

  • Hickok45 is that uncle everyone should have!

  • Great video!

  • Muito bom um video, estava procurando por isso, mostrando as caracteristicas da arma, muito bom, parabens.

  • So much for the idea of hiding in a cinder block house... I'll blow a hole in the wall with my Marlin 45-70 and then shoot you with my revolver.

  • my zombie gun :)

  • best quote ever "if it takes more than 4 with these, you're in deep"

  • @pivotboy63 yep, he certainly has a way with words!

  • nice shot grandpa !!

  • your probably thinking of brockman lever actions they have the beast package that uses the marlic frame and custum fits it out

  • I want that gun! And nice video too!

  • does this model have a safety

  • @FreedomFighter290 yes and hammer block safty i bought three of these rifles 1 for my dad 1 for my gf and 1 for my self as a truck gun

  • Nice Rifle , on my shopping list.

  • l so want to be your next door neighbor Hickok..lol.. Hard to get any sleep past 8am l'm guessing, but it would be worth havin access to your personal range, and firearms. :-)

  • lol..That is so awesome! So much paint is removed, l'm amazed the round doesn't go through the plate steel.. :-) Not literally ofcourse, but man l love this rifle. l've always wanted one, but l keep putting my money into other guns. Whats wrong with me?..lol

  • you aint grizz baby

  • I'm not crazy, just different

  • you can somewhat see the bullet flying out at 8:00 in. nice video btw

  • Ah that slip on but plate makes you look salty instead of preppy!!! Again thanks for the great video.

  • beautiful gong music :)

  • I also have a 45-70G I love it , but it does hold 4 in the mag 1 in the chamber

  • awesome lever gun, not as awesome as the 1873 though.

  • That gun is smexy. Thanks for sharing.

  • How much does a gun like that cost?

  • @Johndoe102893 about $540 on buds gun shop .com

  • great gun next do the le einfield smle

  • I love watching this guy.

He's out having fun while I sit here watching youtube videos.

  • "BANG! Ding! Haaahaaha...." Love his videos. Brightens up my day. I love these rifle. 45-70: Turning cover into concealment since 1873.

  • Nice video! I put a scope on my 1895 and shot an average 0.92 inch group with my first set of handloads. Amazing gun.

  • ok i have to ask is this a blackpowder cartridge gun or does it shoot smokeless modern 45-70 Gov't rounds?

  • like a concert

    *cling*, *clang*, *clung*,..

  • can you do more cwboy style videos

  • where did you get the side/shoulder holster ?

  • is it 4+1 or 3+1

  • @Hteam1422 4+1

  • @MrCamerican cool

  • you're an excellent shot my good man!!

  • that's just a beatiful gun !

  • I just had a thought of reboring and rechambering one of those to take the big S&W 500 round. that'd almost make it a safari gun.

  • i think i might go and get myself a hickok45 tattoo

  • Shooting stuff is a lot of fun. Thanks for proving that.

  • can you say hand cannon!!!

  • interesting, that rifle loads in a very similar action to a pump action shotgun just with the underlever rather than the pump.

Was this design before bolt action with a mag was invented?

  • @srspower As far as I'm aware, the lever action really came to prominence before the bolt action.

  • Just recently got a Rossi Rio Grande (.45-70 clone of the Marlin 336 w/ big loop), and I have to say it is an absolute blast. Definitely my go-to rifle for goin on walkabouts in the woods. The Rio Grande is actually even lighter than the Guide Gun. You, sir, need to look up "speed shooting" though, and make a video on being a frontiersman!

    Fun video!

  • what should i get 45-70 or a 338lepua (hunting elk)

  • @MrMuddigin If you want to spend a MINIMUM of $4.50 per shot, but have the ability to reach out and touch things at 1900 yards, go with a .338 Lapua. If you want to go lightweight and get up-close and personal, the .45-70 is a better bet. Box ammo is as "low" as just over $1 per shot. I'm about to start making my own .45-70 loads to cut costs and get a custom recoil/power/ballistic performance balance. You'd CERTAINLY want to reload with .338 Lapua Magnum. Prices are from CheaperThanDirt (CTD)

  • @MrMuddigin Of those two, I'd pick the .45-70 no doubt. I wouldn't consider the 338 Lapua for a practical hunting round, unless you're very wealthy and masochistic. Very expensive, ammo uncommon and not readily available, and it'll kick like a mule on steroids. .45-70 is not really even in the same class as the 338 Lapua, meant for two drastically different hunting methods. In close quarters, .45-70 is great. If you need to reach out past 200 yards, go with 300 Win Mag or 338 Win Mag.

  • Ow man I love shooting that gun

  • I have the same gun in stainless, and I love it! Almost bought a .444, but I'm glad I went with the 45/70.

  • hey i have a marlin 39as golden whats the differnce between that and the 39as

  • WONDER IF HE BOUGHT ALL THOSE ANIMAL TARGETS OR HE CUT THEM OUT HIMSELF.ID LIKE TO GET SOME OF THOSE ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS

  • nice gun...Cheers.

  • i want it i want it bad

  • is the 45-70 like the 30-30? 45 cal bullet with 70 grains powder?

  • @zac030101 Yes, the original black-powder load used 70 grains of black-powder, bullet is .458 diameter.

  • 8:02 you can see the bullet hit the pig! I have some 250 grain all copper 45-70's that do 2600fps

  • Dayum! Dat Everything!~

  • It is legal in the uk

  • I wish this was legal in the UK. I would so buy one of these and the 1911

  • 1:08 when the zonbies heard hickok the .45-70 out, they got on their hondas and ran off.

  • @CSLFiero haha I was like what the hell is that God awful noise!?!?

  • @CSLFiero 4 bangers dont sound that good, it was a truck that hammered it.

  • 8:01 you can see the bullet

  • The Marlin Guide is an exelent gun, and you are an EXELENT SHOOTER!!! GOOD VIDEO!!!!!

  • You, my man, are of a shot. Small cal, or HUGE... you slam 'em

  • He will survive a zombie outbreak...

  • i know you have probably said it before, where do you get your ghost ring sights?

  • Nothing like burning thru a hundred bucks in big bore ammunition.

  • Nice range you have there! I was surprised to see how well your steel was holding up against the 45/70’s punishment. Could I ask you to elaborate a little on the targets thickness and Brinnel strength?

  • Bingo!

  • hey hickok do you think you could do a video of the Savage Model 99 I just inherited one and i would like to hear you thoughts on it. Thanks and great video

  • I love your range, it's a shooters dream.

  • Great video!

  • First time I have seen your vids. Your accuracy is amazing. I am in love with your range. Great vid great knowledge. Thanks

  • What kind of revolver do you have, and what kind of holster is that?

  • @TJMartinek my dads friend made that holster, i have the same one. theyre nice holsters. i believe his company is called diamond holsters or something i cannot remember

  • I sense a recoil pad ^_^

  • I First shot the 45-70 Gov, when I was 13, it was a big step up from the 30-30 but I loved it, and thinking of getting one. thier pretty expensive though. i think I will stick with my 7.62x54R SVT-40 by the way hickok can you do a vid on the SVT-40?

  • hi hickok45

i just want to say you have great videos :D

and i find them very interesting cause you know the history of all your guns! its really awesome

and you have good accuracy :D

  • Nice video!

  • This gun looks great!

and after he shot @ around 7:55, you can see the bullet fly towards the pig :D

  • @artyfarty27 this guy knows more about guns than you do about life in general

  • @artyfarty27, I probably AM too old to shoot guns. Where's a good nursing home? No offence, but you might be just a little young to hang out with the "big boy" shooters on YouTube. :-)

  • @hickok45 your not old, you're "experienced" ;)

  • @hickok45 i believe as long as a person is certified, they're sane, and they can see down the range, there's no problem with them shooting.

  • @hickok45 hahahaha nice

  • @artyfarty27 owned

  • @artyfarty27 no offence but you are to stupid to use internet

  • @artyfarty27 STFU retard

  • @artyfarty27 You have probably never shot a gun in your life you toddler. Get back to sucking on your mommy's tit.

  • @artyfarty27 How can you possibly be too old to shoot guns?

  • @artyfarty27 Well you seem like a young kid. What are you doing watching videos on weapons? Did Call of Duty bring you here? Probably did didnt it?

  • @artyfarty27 no offence but i think your to much of a faggot to live

  • @artyfarty27 No offence but you can't spell "offense" correctly. You don't look smart enough to shoot guns.

  • @artyfarty27: He's probably forgotten more about guns in the last week than you'll know in your entire lifetime.

  • @artyfarty27 Son. shooting isn't about age, it's about having balls, something you don't have.

  • Awesome video. That round moves slow enough that I'd swear you can hear the shot and then see it hit the pig target...however it can apparently shoot through a foundation if necessary!

  • 1:20... high-revving vehicle escaping the gunfire

  • @hickok45 How is the recoil for it? Because I'm planning on getting the Marlin 1895XLR and it is also .45-70. I have never shot a .45-70. I will be deer hunting with it and just want to know what I'm getting into before I purchase the gun. I have shot other hunting rifle. Could you compare it to something. Please and thank you.

  • Brush Gun!!

  • It's amazing you climb that hill everytime to reset your targets.

  • i thought teachers are supposed to be liberal anti-gun panty waists?

  • 01:10 to 01:18

    Vq35DE under acceleration. :)

  • What a smooth operating gun!

  • Wondering where the chest harness came from and if one could be had for a Bisley for a southpaw?

  • What most people keep their office supplies in, Hickok45 keeps his ammunition in. I guess you could consider it his own office supplies.

  • What would the price be on one of these beasts? it hits sooo hard!

  • @TheDevilWearsPrada18 It depends on whether you buy it used or new. If it's new I think they're around $500-$550, and used they can be around $400-$450 depending on condition.

  • Back when they were first designing this gun they felt they needed to improve the round. After a bunch of testing they found a 500gr round was what they needed. Thus, the .45-70-500 was born. The newer 500gr round would produce lethal wounds at to 3500yards. They tested this by shooting at 3 1" thick oak boards at 3500 yards. The results, a 30degree hold in all 3 boards and the bullet ending up 8" into the sandy ground. I would say that'd do it lol.

  • @obeyance Did you mean 350 yards? 3500 is a bit long for a 408 CheyTac, much less a 45-70 with 500 gr lead.

  • @300webmag He must have meant 350. That is definitely not a long distance cartridge. Hell, how could anyone hit anything at 3500 yards? Sights aren't made that hold that high.

  • @YoungBrave2006 91/30 goes to 2,000 meters

  • @tehmediasource 2,000 meters is only 2187 yards, now I did look it up and the thing with the .45-70 is 3500 yards, which would only matter if you are firing at massed troops. Even then, what sights are you aiming with? The 7.62X54r is much better suited for long range shooting, since they actually make sniper rifles and boat tail match grade bullets in that caliber.

  • @YoungBrave2006 I am aware of that, I didn't clarify. Thats the longest range irons I have ever seen and yes there is no way .4570 would even make it that distance with its powder charge.

  • Man, those gongs ring with authority after being hit by 405 grains of lead justice.

  • i would love to have this guy as my teacher!!

  • Beautiful gun, great shooting! .45-70 such a beast, I'd have it over .500 any day

  • I was wondering what brand ammo he has?

  • @jbiafra69

    reloads.

  • I was Very Curious about one when i held it and that is definitely a Powerful Rifle Ive Heard it is as far range as the 30/30 but its got the Punch behind it that you need for a closer range heck I would rely on it I Like how hes got his set up Definitely a good setup for the woods hes wearing Sold me for it haha

  • gotta get one of these bad boys.. lookin at some Henry's

  • what is the biggest game a 45-70 is capable of taking down?

  • @SuperOutdoorsman101 ANY ANIMAL YOU SHOOT WILL GO DOWN i have one and its amazing

  • @SuperOutdoorsman101 In a guide gun, anything in North America. If you really want to hurt your shoulder, buy a gun capable of handling super-powerful loads like a Ruger #1 or #3, then you could kill anything that moves, and some things that don't.

  • u allways have new stuffs to shoot? its no gun mark on the ather things :P?

  • @TheBeastFear I believe its a phenomenon known as "spray paint". ;-)

  • my dad has one of these

  • What does hickock teach?

  • that is PURDY!! I think I have a crush on a 1895SBL and that is why I came a callin here to see you Hickok!

    Happy (belated) New Year!

    God Bless You and Yours!!

  • i think you should do a review on the marlin 336

  • New vegas :D

  • First love the videos and I have to say I bought my first gun today and it was a marlin 45 70 with help from you're video, so keep them coming please.

  • you must go through so many pop bottles.

  • how hard does the gun kick

  • @DonutVIP actualy not as much as youd think ive shot my friends and his ak47 kicks harder of course a pad on the stock will help cut that down but still not as hard as youd think with that big a round.

  • @agentskip oh ok i just want to know thanks for telling me

  • 8:02 you can see the bullet on the way to the pig

  • Nice review! I'm thinking my next "ordnance purchase" very well could be this particular item. My brother in law had a Marlin .444 and I loved shooting it, a very accurate rifle. Thanks again for the insights!

  • You do realize you killed two animals with one shot at 8:24 right?

  • Nice video!

I really like my Marlin 1895G Guide Gun.

A handy carbine with a hefty punch.

Have to hunt around for good deals of .45-70 Govt.

  • 1501st like =D

  • Dang, I'm liking this more than the .35 Remington 336. This thing is bad axe. Maybe...

  • Any chance you can post a video on how YOU reload the 45/70. I find your videos the most informative

  • watch when he shooots the mountain dew up close the bullet bounced of the ground and you can hear it hit one of his metal targets.what a hoot.

  • have you done any vids with moving targets?

  • have a .444 marlin?

  • you can see the bullet when he shoots the pig

  • Do you prefer the XS sights over the Skinner sights? I'm looking to get a peep/ghost ring sight for my Marlin 336 in 30-30 but am unsure which to get. It seems both have a big following, and I trust your knowledge more than most.

  • Could you bring down a grizzly with this cartridge?

  • @DimebagCFH4Life Yes. Do a Google search of "Why I carry a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70" and it is the article on the Ruger forum. It has some really nice pictures of some great bear hunts with this rifle.

  • Great clip! I imagine if you're set up for reloading the 45 Long Colt, you're good to go equipment wise for reloading the .45-70 as well. Am I thinkin right?

  • Show off !!!! Hell of a gun and nice shooting.... show off

  • How expensive are those .45-70 rounds? I can't imagine they come cheap. At least not where I live.

  • has it ever jam on you

  • another gun I'd like to fire. Thought about buying one of these but bought a 300 magnum instead but I do have a Marlin .44 magnum and I love that one.

  • damn your a hell of a shot
